Not so with Ryan Van Cleave, who's a college professor with a Ph.D., marriage and kids -- and who admits to a crippling former addiction to World of Warcraft. |

Star Wars Galaxies puts the end of the saga in the hands of the players This is how the galaxy ends: not with a whimper, but with a mighty bang. At least, that's what SOE hopes as Star Wars Galaxies' devs map out the final few months for this sunsetting MMO. Instead of weeping into a glass of strange blue milk, the team is issuing a challenge to the Imperials or Rebels. The stakes? The fate of the galaxy, once and for all. |

The Star Wars Galaxies thing made me smile when I read it earlier. I hope Wow gets just as good of a sendoff when it's finally time to let go.

I was thinking the same thing :) That's the way to send a game out the door.

""I also have concerns that my children may have a pre-disposition to gaming addiction in the same way that the children of an alcoholic might.""
I facepalmed. Gaming addiction is hardly real imo as its not chemical dependency like alcohol can become or drugs. Yeah, I'm one of those people who dont believe in gaming addiction because theres no factual hard proof on the subject past some whacky therapists who run "anti-mmo-rehab centers" for thousands of dollars.
And it cannot go from father to son...How that would work anyway?
"Your father was gaming addict so you became one too on later age my son. Im sorry its ilness you can only cure by extensive therapy".
Really.

Addiction is not just a physical problem, but also a mental issue as well. Gambling, sex, food, and yes even video games can be a drug for some people just as alcohol and narcotics can.

Obviously this guy is no fool, he's a professor, which is why i feel he must be over dramatizing his experience to sell his book and credibility. With any addiction you shouldn't be focusing on the substance abused but rather the journey into becoming an abuser. I can't wait for the book about being sucked into forum trolling.
