Opening the Dark portal wasn't bad. It was just Violet Hold in a slightly larger room.
It certainly wasn't as bad as trying to figure out the layout of BRD. We spent hours completely lost, fighting through respawns trying to find out where the next boss was.
If we hadn't been getting directions from the devs on the Beta boards, figuring out ST would have been really annoying as well.
And of course, there's The Occulus.

heroic BM was the funnest dungeon in all of burning crusade.
Of course, I played goalie, so I might be biased.

I think Occulus was more hated. Although I spose you had to choose to go to Dark Portal, rather than having it thrust upon you. If we'd had the dungeon finder back then, perhaps things would have been different.

As the Dark Portal was required for Karazhan attunement, you didn't have a choice about going there. Or going there again with your guildies. And with that healer that just joined. And the GM's little brother. And the GM's little brother's guild...etc...

Black Morass is in my top 5 most hated places. Even after the once grueling Kara attunement and helping others get attuned I farmed it many hours for KoT rep back when. I hope I never have to or need to go there again.

What's funny about CoT is that the ceiling doesn't, or didn't, have collision-detection. When the "fly in the old world" bug was present on the PTR, you could go to the middle of the sandtimer, fly straight up, and pop into Tanaris.
You could also fly partiallaly into these backgrounds. They go for a little bit, then there's an invisible wall keeping you from going further.

I've been running Black Morass a *lot* recently in order to complete my paladin's Righteous set (finally got the legs). Aeonus is a big jerk ass. And I hate hate hate Black Morass. VH is at least more compact.
It's a good place to farm netherweb whatsits from the spiders there, though.
