The Daily Quest: Getting into character
WoW Insider's on a Daily Quest to bring you interesting, informative, and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.
I like roleplaying; it's why I write a column on the process. It's a little bit creative writing, a little bit improvisational acting, and a little bit of the lore that I love, all wrapped up in a tidy package. I sometimes wonder about those who criticize RP and whether or not they actually understand what it's about, though. If you've ever read and enjoyed a novel, what you're seeing with roleplay is a giant, interactive novel with many authors who write the story as they go along. Sound fun? It is!
Today we've got a few posts from around the blogosphere concerning the subject of roleplay.

I've been a roleplayer in WoW for four years, and I have never gotten around to writing a description to display in a RP addon. I usually forget to even load RP addons in the first place. After reading "I lIke Pancakes" I'm inspired to give it a shot, to show that my characters look normal/average, if nothing else. Their personalities, not their looks, is what should be distinguishing.
"RP Made Simple" is so right! Many times, I've heard players lament that this or that realm is "dead" for RP, only because RP did not fall into their laps. Looking for people to walk up to and RP with, aka "PUG RP", is often fruitless. But that doesn't mean that there aren't any roleplayers on a RP realm. My main realm is one of those denounced as devoid of RP, yet I've met quite a few roleplayers (being in a guild that fosters RP helps).
By the way, I'm so excited about my guild's RP event that I'm helping with this Friday. We're celebrating the one-year anniversary of the reclamation of the Echo Isles. In preparation, I've been pointing my guildies to your AtWaS articles about trolls, Anne. Thank you!

It's not that RP snarkers wonder or even care what it's about, it more like they've got their nice little comfy stereotype that RPers are wannabe LARPers who can't tell their characters from reality. Some of the "It's just a game, you're taking it too seriously!" camp.
I'd like to try my hand at RP, but I can't hold in-character for 5 minutes. :p

I don't RP, but I do enjoy being in close proximity to good RPers on my RP realms. I remember my first experience with RPers in Stormwind City. They were so good, it took me a while to realize that they weren't NPCs doing some sort of scripted dialogue!
Bad RPers on the other hand... I run away really, really fast.

I have to say that RP has kept me playing WoW after raiding died, my mains guild fizzled, and my friends started to drop off the radar.
I heartily encourage people to give it a whirl.
