Patch 4.3: Worgen racial mounts

Players were torn over Running Wild, mostly because each mount collected counts toward the achievement Mountain o' Mounts, which rewards a Red or Blue Dragonhawk to fly around on. Many Alliance players were upset over the fact that Horde players had an easier time collecting 100 mounts because of the Goblins' trikes. Horses make sense for Worgen, as Worgen are still essentially a Human nation, and Humans in Warcraft ride horses. These two particular mounts seem a bit plain, though. These new mounts are coming in most likely to ease the disparity between mounts when faction changes occur. All in all, this is good news for Alliance mount collectors.
Patch 4.3: Worgen racial mounts
We're not going to make it very far without transportation, are we? If we just hightail it out of here, the forsaken will catch up to us in no time at all.
Rounding up some horses from the stable grounds southeast of here would normally be a breeze, but there's one snag. That last quake must've spooked Koroth, the ettin, down from the mountains. If we don't get our horses soon, I fear that he will.
In patch 4.3, we'll be introducing worgen racial mounts to the stables of Azeroth. These sleek horses have been constant companions for the denizens of Gilneas since time immemorial, and your worgen characters will now be able to claim their ancestral mounts.

We hope you'll visit the new worgen racial mount vendor to pick out a steed to call your own.

Cool, my baby worgen will soon be able to ride around on a horse. I wasn't a big fan of the Running Wild visual style, but I love the look of horse mounts, especially if lightly* armored or unarmored.
*"Lightly" basically means, to me, lacking the massive plate armor that paladin class mounts have.
radda Sep 1st 2011 12:42PM
While I'm glad that they've finally addressed the unbalance between the factions, I do have to say that a horse recolor is pretty freakin lame.
Eric Sep 1st 2011 12:44PM
Could Blizzard have tried any less with this mount? Let's strip everything off our basic horse model and then slap on a "Worgen" racial tag. *Sigh*
loop_not_defined Sep 1st 2011 1:07PM
Worgen still get Running Wild. That's still their super awesome "racial mount". This is just to balance Mountain o' Mounts.
Al Sep 1st 2011 1:26PM
Because looking like a spastic frog is "super awesome"?
loop_not_defined Sep 1st 2011 1:31PM
Al, just because *you* don't like something, it doesn't count?
That's very telling.
Al Sep 1st 2011 1:44PM
Just don't see anything awesome about hopping around. It's utilitarian at best.

Boring

It would be nice if they were a bit bigger than normal horses... Like Clydesdales, but at least it helps my unlucky alts get closer to the mount achievement.
Philster043 Sep 1st 2011 3:34PM
I would have liked Clydedales! Kinda surprised Blizzard didn't think of it.
followthategg Sep 1st 2011 12:44PM
Well, i expect the models which are shown now are placeholders.
Mr. Crow Sep 1st 2011 12:45PM
Well, better that you get something for being Exalted with Gilneas than nothing at all. I'd prefer to have seen something more unique for the mounts, even though undead boars never made any sense.
All in all it seems like a good change, but I think making an announcement about it affords a lot more importance to something that really isn't a substantial change.
Skarn Sep 1st 2011 1:47PM
Honestly, I would have preferred they left the Worgen without racial mounts than give generic horses. Even a unique looking horse model would have been fine.

"Horses make sense for worgen, as worgen are still essentially a human nation and humans in Warcraft ride horses."
Guess it doesn't matter that horses traditionally shy away from werewolves?
It's too bad they couldn't have some sort of steampunky contraption like an iron horse; that would really fit the feel of Gilneas, etc. (We have to assume that one day Gilneas will be re-inhabited by Gilneans, btw.)
RetPallyJil Sep 1st 2011 12:57PM
"Traditionally?" First, it's ludicrous to talk about traditional behavior when you're talking about something imaginary like werewolves. Secondly, Blizzard has their own world and their own rules.
zweitblom Sep 1st 2011 1:14PM
Well, as Werewolforology has repeatedly shown...
Natsumi Sep 1st 2011 1:31PM
@Jilly
Horses have to be trained (read:broken) to allow a human to ride them.
Horses are terrified of wolves IN REAL LIFE.
Werewolves are technically a wolf-human hybrid.
What makes you think that Horses would be okay with a WOLF on it's back? I know I wouldn't, that'd be scary as a real life zombie outbreak.
Terrant Sep 1st 2011 2:31PM
@Natsumi And these horses are trained. Problem solved.
zweitblom Sep 1st 2011 2:39PM
"Horses have to be trained (read:broken) to allow a human to ride them."
So they can't be trained to accept worgen, because...
"Horses are terrified of wolves IN REAL LIFE."
Which is relevant to a game in which you kill Internet dragons, because...
"Werewolves are technically a wolf-human hybrid."
I love the word 'technical' in the same sentence as the word 'werewolf'. 'Technically, Santa Claus is unemployed for 344 days of the year'. Please argue now if Santa should receive welfare or not.
"What makes you think that Horses would be okay with a WOLF on it's back? I know I
wouldn't,"
Well, I hope you also do not crap in the fields like horses do - or do you?
GuyverIV Sep 1st 2011 3:06PM
Nah, it'll be fine. See, what didn't come out in the announcement is that while it's a normal mount while your worgen is in human form, if you turn into your beast form while mounted you get a Debuff called "MONSTER!!GONNAEATMEOHGOD: Your terrified mount now moves at 125% speed but is hard to control and will attempt to throw you."
...No, not really... A Worgen can dream, though.
