The Queue: You'll watch this video at least twice
This is one of those videos you just can't watch once, ya know?
Boz asked:
Just a general business philosophy question: Has Blizzard ever provided the rationale behind the perks of the "Recruit A Friend" system?
I've recruited two seperate friends and both times they had a terrible experience as leveling was disjointed (mobs became green and gray halfway through a zone) and they had a difficult time absorbing all the new abilities in such a short period of time.
The teleporting and mount perks I understand, but wouldn't the augmented experience gains and level granting make more sense for the "Scroll of Resurrection?"
I have to agree with the old polarity of the aims of Recruit-a-friend. On the one hand, it is a wonderful tool that allows you and a friend to have an easier time questing together, moving around the world, and generally facilitating better play. On the other hand, you breeze through content because of the immense experience bonuses. Honestly, I think the Recruit-a-friend program's ultimate aim is to make it incredibly easy to get to "current" content rather than older content. It sounds a bit weird, considering that Cataclysm's 1-60 content is the new content, but this wasn't the case in Wrath.
During Wrath of the Lich King, the old world was still the old world, and common wisdom was "I just wish my friends could start with The Burning Crusade." The Recruit-A-Friend program, I believe, was meant to give that experience to players and to make it easier for existing players to get more higher-level characters faster. Multiple accounts are good for business, right?
Right now, though, leveling is already fast, even without Recruit-A-Friend. If you want your friends to experience the 1-60 Cataclysm content, let them do it on their own time. If you want a friend to get to the max level really quickly, Recruit-A-Friend.
ninjivitis asked:
Has anything been said about whether or not we'll be able to transmogrify heirloom gear?
Yes, heirloom gear is acceptable as a transmogrification target. However, the item loses its transmogrified art when it is traded, mailed, auctioned, or guild-banked away.
Jeff Field asked:
Is there any confirmation whether you can transmog a 2h mace into a 2h axe or sword? I know you can change ranged weapon types but I can't find anything specific on if you can do it on other weapon types so long as they are the same "size" weapon.
You can only transmogrify an item into another item of the same type and specification. The only exception to the rule is guns and bows, but transmogrifying a gun into a bow or vice versa does not change the classification of the gun or bow for racial bonus purposes.
snorgplat asked:
When 4.3 comes with the Deathwing raid, will he stop appearing in random zones and fireballing everything to death? I haven't been playing yet during Cata, but want to get the feat of strength before it disappears.
We don't know, actually. Only time will tell! Blizzard did also say that it would give us a month's notice before it got rid of the Ulduar meta-achievement drakes, and that notice has never come. So who knows? Blizzard knows.
Andrew R. asked:
Why are the farmers in Western Plaguelands holding pitchforks but "mining" the rows of corn? Did Blizzard throw them in there and forget to go back and change the animation?
how i mine corn?

@McCurley
No Mr. You are wrong! I don't watch 95% of any videos posted on here.
Kriegle Sep 3rd 2011 4:42PM
I watched it three times. It was amazing.
Kaphik Sep 3rd 2011 5:12PM
I didn't even make it past 37 seconds. :(

When i RAF'd someone to the game last December, shortly after Cata was released, i never told him about the xp bonus until he got his first character to 60. then i asked if he wanted to level some new toons together and told him.
He was a bit mad that i hadn't done this sooner, but he still plays the game and i think it was better for him to have experienced it at the proper pace.

Love the video! It blends the humor and energy of Richardson from "Hot Rod", with the soulful melancholy of the unnamed dancer from Dirty Vegas' "Days Go By" video.
"He shows up... same day every year... and dances from sunrise to sunset..."
Well done.

Yep, watched it twice, then showed the wife, then emailed link to the wife so she could facebook it. Awesome. Almost as good as http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMZwZiU0kKs

I just recently purchased a 60 day gamecard and put it on my account and even more recently, found out i'd have to take about a 3 month sabbatical from wow for IRL complications.
My question: Is there a way to freeze my account without losing game time already pre purchased? It's not a lot of cash, but it's kinda sad to throw away 35 bucks when I'll be coming back right after the prepaid time would expire.
Drakkenfyre Sep 3rd 2011 12:56PM
Generally speaking, once you put the time card on the account, it's being used. However, you can try posting on the official Customer Support forum, and explain that RL has forced you away right after putting the card on your account, and they MIGHT be able to freeze it until then. I have heard of people with long-term subscriptions doing this, but usually game cards are out of luck. You can try, tho.
Arrohon Sep 3rd 2011 1:00PM
I think you're more likely to get the time refunded afterwords. If they see that you bought the time and didn't use it they might add that unused time to your account. Or they might not. There's no way of knowing what they'll do.
Skarn Sep 4th 2011 1:50AM
You can always ASK, but it's unlikely. Once the time is applied to your account, there's no way to "freeze" it.
SR Sep 3rd 2011 12:46PM
You can store heirlooms in Guild Banks now? >.>
Hob Sep 3rd 2011 1:15PM
Yeah, when you're not selling them at the auction house.
:)
Mathew McCurley Sep 3rd 2011 2:22PM
I was making a general comment about armor pieces that were transmogrified, not just heirlooms.
Hob Sep 3rd 2011 4:42PM
@Mathew McCurley
Yeah, we know... but we're WoW Insider commenters. If you throw us a softball, you know one of us is gonna take a whack at it. It's all meant in fun.

This could be more of a breakfast topic, but what unusual looting rules/guidelines does your guild have for raid drops?
My guild run by the rules: "Trash BoE's are ms > half guild bank/half roll winner. Boss BoP's are loot council, Boss BoE's are tricky. Sometimes we do loot council, but more often than not, we sell them for high gold to craft more 365/378 gear that raiders can use."
gewalt Sep 3rd 2011 3:33PM
you dont have rules. you have abusive raid leader(s)
Zoquara Sep 3rd 2011 5:59PM
My guild doesn't have unusual loot rules, IMO. Mainspec> Offspec/Alt Main Spec> Alt offspec> guild bank. BoEs are rolled on ONLY if someone in the raid actually needs it for an upgrade to the character they are on. Otherwise, they go to the guild bank, and can be purchased for 1/2 the AH price. Items like Legendary parts are specialty cases, and we make our intentions with them known ahead of time if we can. The only "oddity" we have is that the leadership has the right to veto a roll if we feel it is necessary (like a resto sham rolling on an offhand, when the resto druid in the raid actually really needs it, and the sham's shield is almost the exact same thing. Yes, it happened.) However, we VERY rarely use the veto-power.
Skarn Sep 4th 2011 1:56AM
Our rules are fairly simple: Players are more important than money.
Main spec rolls are first, of course. BoP or BoE is irrelevant. If no one wants it for main spec, anyone is allowed to have it for off-spec. You can even roll on a BoE for your alt that you don't raid with. Gold just isn't important to us. It does have to be a character you are going to play often. You don't get something for that level 77 DK that you haven't touched in over a year. (Stop looking at me like that!)
If no one is going to use it on one of their characters, we sell it and the gold goes to the guild bank. We use the guild bank for repairs, buying enchanting mats, buying potion/flask mats and so on.
