I used to raid because only the most dedicated, disciplined and organized groups could defeat the meanest baddies in the game. And the reward of such accomplishments was displayed on your character for everyone to see. Then blizz decided everyone should get to see the baddies fall dead and wear the gear and they ceased to be the meanest baddies in the game.
