The Classifieds: Understanding the schedule
The Classifieds brings you weekly news from around the WoW community, including our famous Random Acts of Uberness shout-outs to players who make your WoW sessions memorable.
Did you catch this awesome interview about the AFK Tavern? We were pretty excited about it; I wish I could open one around my own home. Just to cement how cool it is, check out this picture they sent us of their own roasted crocolisk.
We had a few letters this week to The Classifieds asking about what the deadline schedule is like. I need submissions in place by Monday, since I turn in The Classifieds Tuesday morning. While I sometimes squeeze late entries in through the day, I can't always promise that.
Random Acts of Uberness
It's when another player lights up your night with precise play, a wicked sense of humor or unexpected generosity that your login becomes something to remember. Share your Random Acts of Uberness with theclassifieds@wowinsider.com. Keep things brief (150 words or less, please), and be sure to list everyone's character names and home realms or battlegroup. Don't be afraid of sending an entry more than once if it doesn't appear; sometimes internet dragons eat email, and we'd hate to let that keep deserving players from getting their due.
Drak'thul EU group I entered Zul'Aman just to get the JP, and maybe to have a go at the bear. Kombr, Møtiøn, Lelou and Dawemáslo (all Drak'thul-EU) ask me if I've got the bear. I say no and they say they'll get it for me. Sure enough we blast through the instance, downing Halazzi with 8mins to spare. since they all have the bear, they pass on it, and basicly give it to me. They sure made this DK's week! -- Frosteyes, Xavius (EU)
Employment: Guilds recruiting
Looking for more? Send in your guild name, realm, a link to your guild website or armory listing and a sentence or two on your guild's focus (10-man, RP, late-night raiding, whatever) to theclassifieds@wowinsider.com.
Acronym for a name Raiding alliances are usually a good way to get into raiding. OSTW is an Alliance guild on the Khaz Modan PvE realm. We are a small guild that does everything from casual raiding, to dungeons, to leveling. Our goal is to have as much fun as possible seeing all of the content WoW has to offer by maintaining a mature group in a cooperative, drama-free environment. We are laid back, friendly adults who have a wide variety of playstyles, time commitments, and in-game interests. We are currently running Cataclysm dungeons and pre-Cataclysm (Wrath) raids. We find that staying behind the raiding "power curve" allows us to experience WoW's end game content without the pressure, gearing, and time requirements of current raiding content. We plan to start the Tier 11 Cata raids down the road a bit. Please visit us at http://ostwguild.com/recruit.htm for more info.
Casual-core You are accustomed to hardcore, but casual-core is a fun turn of phrase. Templars of Lia Fail, US-Exodar [H] is a level 25 casual-core guild looking to rebuild our raiding ranks. We started in BC as a friends and family guild and had great raiding success through Lich King – including fielding several raid groups. But the Cataclysm attrition hit us hard and we came under new management (well, some guildies took it over). The rebuilding is going well and we are successfully raiding 10-man T11 content, gearing folks up. We hope to start T12 content in the very near future. Most guildies are working adults and provide a fun environment. We raid Tuesday 7:30-10:30 and are looking to find a second night. We'd also like to get a late-night run going for our West coast guildies. Check out our website and fill out an application at: tolf.dkpsystem.com. Or send an in-game message to Yaboot or Conqubine.
Future imperfect Sounds like a good group, but naming the guild Dystopia just seems like asking for trouble. Dystopia of US-Spinebreaker is a Horde raiding guild that is currently 7/7 in normal Firelands and progressing quickly. We're looking a few more Ranged DPS to push us over into 25 mans full time. We also have spots open for a Holy Paladin and a Healing Priest. We're looking for applicants that are fun to be around and won't cause drama - because we won't tolerate it! We raid Monday through Wednesday from 8:30 to Midnight EST. We're a guild full of friends that like to have fun together, but we also know how to get stuff done. Visit dystopia-spinebreaker.enjin.com to apply, or Real-ID Faralia at blakers19@gmail.com with any questions.
Great scott! These good folks are still recruiting; get your time-heavy sneakers happening. One Pt Two One Jigawatts of Hydraxis-US [Horde] is still actively recruiting players who are interested in raiding older content, PvPing with others in their bracket, running dungeons, or anything else they'd be interested in at a level cap. We have raiding teams, arena teams, are working on gearing players for rated BGs, and there are large communities of twinks at our levels all over the country. If you're interested in joining us, drop us a line at our website, or send a tell to one of our officers in-game. All of our policies and guidelines can be found at our website, linked above. Looking forward to hearing from you!
Healer wanted This group needs a third healer. Kalimdors Legion - Hydraxis [H] is currently looking for a third healer for it's core 10 man raid team. The ideal individual would be a resto druid or shaman, is raid aware and has good attendance. We currently raid Tue/Wed/Thur night from 7:30 till 11:30 server time. Kalimdors Legion has been a very successful guild since the days of the Burning Crusade earning many server firsts including 25 man Heroic Lich King. Recently KL has decided to shift to a 10 man core team. For more information about our guild or to apply please visit us on our website at www.klguild.org.
Heroic Method This group needs a few exceptional players to succeed in heroic content. Methodic is a Horde side guild on Blackwing Lair - US. Currently 6/7 Heroic 10 man, looking for exceptional players of all classes/specs! Main group raiding Tues-Thursday, 7-11 PST, with an up and coming group raiding Fri-Sun. If you have raiding experience, and you excel at what you do, we want to see your app! Still seeking the elusive balance spec druid! Apply at http://methodic.enjin.com or speak to our recruitment officer on Real ID at: Sindandaofstorms@gmail.com
Inevitability These guys are (inevitability) looking for a few healers. Inevitable Failure on Doomhammer US Alliance is looking for a couple decent healers to fill out our 10 man raid. One friend had to leave for RL, and another can't make raid times anymore due to a change in his work schedule. We could use a paladin and a priest, probably, but are willing to discuss other choices. We raid Friday 9-12 mountain and Saturday 8-12 mountain. We're pretty casual, with little interest in heroics unless 4.3 takes long enough that we have nothing else to raid. We made 12/12 in Tier 11 before 4.2; we're only 4/7 now, as summer has hit us the same as anyone. http://inevitablefailure.guildlaunch.com
Weekend Raiding BNeed some raiding on the weekends? Sounds like these guys can help. Brought to you by GenocideX @ US Aerie Peak! GenocideX raids 25 mans Friday and Saturday nights 6pm (Tz -07:00). We are 7/7 Firelands , and on the cusp of starting heroic mode come and be a part of a small time commitment guild that takes raiding very seriously! NEEDS: DPS: Deathknight, Moonkin, Warlock, Hunter. HEALS: Holy-Priest, Resto-Druid, Resto-Shammy. App@ http://genocidex.guildlaunch.com PRESS BUTTONS HARDER!

That image is disturbing...
Strawder Sep 7th 2011 7:47PM
Yo, seriously.
"Mmmm that looks incredible!" was not what I was thinking upon seeing that image.
It was more like "What the hell IS that?!"
Scunosi Sep 7th 2011 7:53PM
Wait, so you mention Crocs but don't bother linking that giant one they caught in the Phillippines? At least I'd recognize that as a croc, not this freaky food. o_O

That has got to be one of the most unappealing dishes I have ever seen. I now have absolutely no desire to ever try the AFK Tavern.
Moomoo Sep 7th 2011 8:31PM
Are those...Tortino's Pizza Rolls?
GrandOldDuke Sep 7th 2011 9:44PM
I thought someone had cooked up a headcrab.
hp_hunter Sep 7th 2011 8:42PM
The photo could use a bit of retouching cause it's too bright so it could look more appealing but it doesn't look bad. I'd love to try it someday (but I'd take the skin off it though)!
I can picture myself with a glass of beer, some dipping sauce or maybe just ketchup and maybe some roasted potatoes as a side dish... Damn, I'm getting hungry :(

Okay, I kind of see what they were going for, but I had to stare at it for while at max zoom, which was no pleasant prospect.
I'd guess that's six turkey legs for the crocolisk's six legs, a frenched pair of chops for the head - possibly lamb? Cucumber slices for what I suppose are eyes ... and the splayed guts are represented by what looks to be a big split sausage topped by a pile of bacon and ... either ravioli or some sort of fried dough snack such as the aforementioned pizza rolls.
A neat little idea for a hearty meal, actually - food presented in the shape of other food is an old feasting tradition. The problem lies not in the idea, nor even the presentation so much as the picture and the framing.
A square black plate on a black cloth field does no one any favors - I'd have used a long oblate serving dish, such as the one used for turkey at Thanksgiving, ideally in nice radiant white. I'd do away with the bed of useless iceberg lettuce, the packing foam pellets of the culinary world, and use a crisp vinegary slaw of red cabbage brightened by some peppers. And as stated above, I would shoot it in balanced light with a better camera, and maybe drizzle some sauce over it so it looks more luscious and less horrifyingly surgical.

I agree. It's a cute idea for a dish and whilst it certainly doesn't look like the "professional" pictures of food we're accustomed to, it looks real. It looks like the turkey I buy from the local rotisserie or that my family serves every thanksgiving.
I could do without the bacon and ravioli parts, though. I think a bit of colorful stir-fried veggies would get the "guts" across well enough and not have everything blend together quite so much. Some pepper strips, carrot cubes, green beans, sprouts, etc.

Anyone who's lived in St. Louis for any period of time would identify those "pizza rolls" as toasted ravioli, which are slightly fresher and a little less gross than actual pizza rolls.
(To tell a dirty secret, they're actually stuffed with pork and fried. Sort of tasty in a congestive-heart-failure-in-your-future kind of way.)
eclipse3979 Sep 7th 2011 10:00PM
It looks gross in the picture, but as a self proclaimed foodie, my tune might differ seeing it and smelling it in person. After checking the website, I have to admit, I need to eat at AFK Tavern. Plus i want to try some of those craft beers.
Drakkenfyre Sep 7th 2011 10:54PM
Even tho I can identify about 80% of that (including the pizza rolls, and cabbage) it looks absolutely disgusting.
Zapwidget Sep 8th 2011 7:45AM
Apparently I'm a freak, or possibly the only one here that actually plays WoW, but to me it looks like a roasted crocolisk. I don't know where I'd get such a whacked out notion, though.
Looks disgusting? It's a friggin crocolisk! A giant 6 legged lizard. It's not for the dainty napkin-in-lap, pinky-out-when-you-hold-your-teacup crowd. It's what an orc warrior gets at The Broken Tusk after returning from Blackrock Mountain. Try to keep things in perspective.
eclipse3979 Sep 8th 2011 8:43AM
I agree Zap. I think this is a case of real world meeting WOW where as much as we may think we are our toons, when presented with something they would eat our true sensibilities take over. I can easily see this being some sort of favored dish to our characters. Even though it looks odd, I personally would still try it.
arukardo Sep 8th 2011 3:34PM
God those Crocolisk legs look good. WTB AFK Tavern.
