What I see as the best way to tackle this problem (or part of it) is to do away with raid locks whatsoever. Find a way to reward the player based on just the highest difficulty/group size boss kill he did that week, but let he do the encounters, in any difficulty level, as many times as he wants.This way, having to take a few players through an achievement run is not a week of lost progression. It's just an extra raid the raid leader has to find enough willing players to run, knowing they will still be able to do the "official" guild run the same week.
