Even now, over six years on, I still remember my first ride on a griffon from Stormwind to Westfall: it literally blew me away as I had never experienced anything like it in a game before.
I still enjoy long flights through Kalimdor and EK just looking at the scenery. Never gets old.

I had kind of the same experience when taking my first flight from Ruth'eran Village to Auberdine and turning to look back and got struck by the shear massive size of Teldrassil realizing that that huge city of Darnassus is inside of that. Blew my mind.

The first time I played WoW, I 100% expected the gryphon master mechanic to just be a teleport to other gryphon masters. I was blown away when they actually put me on a gryphon and had me fly over this vast world to where I needed to go -- especially if it was an entire continent away.
I hate it when games are too loosey goosey with teleporting as a travel mechanic. When you actually see the land you're traversing, the scope of the game really hits home.
