Guild ranking and progression tracking site
GuildOx has assembled data on
World of Warcraft's most experienced raider in terms of boss kills -- a Troll mage named
Meltymon from the Destromath (EU) server. Meltymon has 5,389 raid boss kills, most on normal difficulty, going back to the beginning of the game's raiding challenges. Now, while Meltymon isn't the most experienced raider in terms of content completed, since heroic Ragnaros is still unaccounted for, the number of total raid boss kills over the lifetime of the character is still pretty impressive.
The most interesting part of the ranking on GuildOx is that the most raid boss kills do not come from characters in the cutting-edge guilds. In fact, most of the higher-ups on the list are from guilds doing normal content each week with a smattering of heroic kills thrown in. The larger, more progressed guilds tend to do the content on their mains until completion for world firsts and then swap to alts or take time away from the game until a new patch hits and new challenges appear. All of these new rankings on GuildOx are possible because of the
new APIs we had talked about in the past and are really providing developers and site owners with some cool tools to play around with.
Brace yourselves for what could be some of most exciting updates to the game recently with patch 4.3. Look at what's ahead: new item storage options, cross-realm raiding, cosmetic armor skinning and your chance to battle the mighty Deathwing -- from astride his back!

And the Tortoise not the Hare, wins again.
Kane Sep 10th 2011 8:41PM
Perhaps the hare didn't realize it was a race?
Sleutel Sep 10th 2011 9:15PM
I can make a thousand stick figures in the time it takes one of my artistically inclined friends to finish a work of art. Did I win?
SlavedHeart Sep 11th 2011 11:44AM
but the Hare is the definition of racing. In fact, one could argue that with out the hare, the tortoise isn't even racing, just enjoying a walk down the road. And in this analogy, isn't the hare the 'world first' chasing guilds? isn't that a race? uconfusemebro....

I really wish GuildOx would track guild rankings in terms of not only boss kills, but wipes per first kill and hours per first kill. My guild doesn't spend 4 hours a night 3 or 4 days a week or more like the top guilds do, but we consistantly are getting a new boss down every week in FL. And this is with 4-6 hours a week of raiding. I have no idea how much time top guilds actually spend when they clear the whole place in one week but i'd love to see stats on it. I wonder if this info is even available in any way from the armory or if its just wishful thinking.

"I really wish GuildOx would track guild rankings in terms of not only boss kills, but wipes per first kill and hours per first kill."
...because what we really need, more than anything else, is more food for epeen trolls.

You can check the times on a guild's parses on Worldoflogs.com to see how long farm nights take them, and for big boss kills like heroic Rag guilds will usually mention their wipe count somewhere on their website.

Blizzard doesn't publish that info at all, so in order to get it Guild Ox would have to collect the data themselves through an addon (like how WoWHead collects data). Of course, that would only allow you to compare against other people who use the addon, so GuildOx wouldn't be able to create rankings from that data, so I don't think they would even want to bother an addon.

This explains why my 10 man raid is ranked 9th on my server. I had wondered o_O

After being in both slow and fast progression guilds, I have to say that the more progressed guilds certainly have the right idea. These guilds put a lot into their progression. If they were to do that every single week over the course of the content, burnout would be a huge problem. I know it has been for me, and I've barely scratched the top 200 US guilds a few times. It's one of the reason I'm enjoying casualness right now before 4.3 hits.

What does he win?

Congrats Meltymon on your five thousand, three hundred eighty ninth boss kill! :D
Snuzzle Sep 11th 2011 8:54AM
Psh. Tell him to come back when it's an even 6k. :P

Further proof that mages are the greatest class of all time! Let all know of our glory!
Joking aside, this is awful neat, and may Meltymon continue having great success against bosses!
Spellotape Sep 11th 2011 3:46AM
Maybe it just proves mages have more free time? ;)
Marcosius Sep 11th 2011 11:19AM
Maybe it proves that being a buff and food dispenser isn't that bad.

So Boss kills started with patch 3.0.2 on Oct 14, 2008.
If you ignore the boss kills that the character started with at launch of the patch (probably got one for each boss) you get the following:
5389/1061 (days since 10/14/2008) = 5.1 kills a day
That's impressive; that's also allot of time playing every day.....wow

Damn, Meltymon is a fantastic name. There are so many interpretations of it: is it the name for a weird Digimon? Is it the name of a Megaman boss spoken with a Jamaican accent? Is it a Jamaican's response when asked what the M&Ms are in his mouth? ("Melty, mon!") The possibilities are endless...
...well, okay, not really endless, I pretty much covered all of them right there, BUT STILL. That is an awesome name.
darkwing Sep 11th 2011 2:38AM
Yeah I thought of Coupling when I read the name and had a nice chuckle. I miss that show and hated that Richard Coyle left before it ended but that's a rant for another time
sinceritystar Sep 11th 2011 4:18AM
I thought of Coupling, too! Meltymon is a great name.
