Breakfast Topic: What new class of weapons would you add to WoW?

As an enhancement shaman, my main character has lost many a roll over the years to players rolling on weapons for which their class probably shouldn't even have been rolling in the first place. We enhancement folk are pretty picky about which weapons we'll use; slow one-handers with agility are the only ones that pique our interest (blasphemers who use spellpower weapons are dead to me), and only those of the mace, axe, or fist families. Back in Naxx, I lost out on Calamity's Grasp to a rogue who wasn't even specced into a fist weapon build. Hunters rolled on one-handed axes like Touch of Madness -- as if they couldn't use nearly every other kind of weapon! Even dual-wielding DKs tried to get their cold, dead hands on one-handers like the Lion's Maw.
If it were up to me, I would remedy this problem by creating a whole new weapon class: flails. Flails would only be usable by shaman (and maybe druids, because kitties are cute). Variations could include the medieval-esque spiked ball(s) chained to a short pole handle, or even the nunchaku style of two sticks chained together. The swiftly spinning ball and chain of death would fit well with the enhancement shaman's Windfury Weapon imbue as well.
If you could, what new type of weapon would you add to WoW? Which classes would be able to use the new weapon, and why?

Without a doubt, pistols. I'm not event a Hunter but if I could dual wield a pair of pistols I'd roll one day -1.

I would start by getting rid of the ranged/idol slot and make all bows/guns/crossbows 2h weapons and add pistols so hunters could dw guns. also add a class of mini crossbows as well (dunno what to call them) for dw purposes.
The ranged/idol slot is a failed experiment. its time to get rid of it.

1h guns indeed.
Better yet, if we could wear one and another 1h weapon for close combat...

Pistols for hunters. Their ranged/idol spot could be a dagger/shortsword. I have always felt the ranged weapon should be the main weapon. I'm still partial to the crossbow though. Love the sound it makes. FLIT! as the bolt flies through the air and bites into it's target. Yeah.

Poleaxes...what we need a great big double axe-head on a long pole! That's what's missing. Oh, and dual-wielding pistols, no explanation needed.

I understand the frustration you're describing, but I don't think the solution is to create a drop on loot tables that is only used by a single class. Healing Plate is a prime example of how much this sucks, isn't it?
(And I play a holy paladin, so it works well for me!)

wouldnt have to be a drop, it can be treated the same as relic slots are now, i.e. only available from vendors maybe?
although im personally in favour of actually having warriors and rogues use relics, so only hunters actually use them, since lets be honest when was the last time anyone even used a ranged weapon on those 2 classes? last time i did was getting to 400 weapon skill before it was removed comepletely....

"gear for a single class only available only though a vendor" is also a failed experiment that needs to go away.
We are supposed to raid for loot.

I obviously (or, perhaps, not so obviously) don't think it wouldn't be fair to actually create a weapon type that only one class could use. I was hoping my reference to the cuteness of feral druids might elucidate the tongue-in-cheek approach to the discussion. :)

errr...i obviously don't think it WOULD be fair*

Pistols would certainly be a rogue weapon as well as a hunter weapon. What's more rogueish than bringing a gun to a knife fight? You wouldn't necessarily have to add a new class of weapon. They could simply be guns that use a smaller model than the current ones. I know a lot of people would like to dual-wield pistols, and while I agree that would look awesome it would require adding a whole new class of weapon. Just make a "small" gun. People who don't like the look can transmogrify their weapon anyway. Alternately, you could loot a pair of pistols that do the same amount of damage as one gun and only fill the one weapon slot but make you look like you're wielding two for cosmetic reasons.

Well if it were me, I would make all dungeon drop tokens you would then take back to your weapon guy and pick whatever weapon you want. I know it wouldn't be as fun to get that shiny [whatever] you wanted. For all those who say, well then I couldn't use it til I got back...use what got you there!

@angellusEU:
My Rogue uses Crippling poison on his throwing knives. He uses them for finishing off mobs attempting to run away in fear, rather than running after them into an ambush. I usually call out "Where do you think you're going? Nobody's walking out on this fun, old-fashioned massacre." if I have time.
My Warrior Jaykobb uses his gun or bow to catch those runners without losing position. His phrase is "Captain says you're to stay put."

I definitely like the idea of flails, but something that cool should in no way be restricted to shaman and druids just because some people don't understand what stats their class needs. ^_^ And along a similar line, I'd like to see whips and/or spiked chains as a weapon, just for the awesome factor. Naturally, there would have to be Castlevania and/or God of War references in at least one of the epic weapons of each type, and any legendary whip must have once belonged to Harrison Jones.
Also, like those above me, another vote for pistols, especially if we could dual-wield them. There's something inherently awesome about that. Bonus points if they're also able to be used at melee range, because then I could make a rogue based off of Revy from Black Lagoon.
And I would really, really like to see more staffs and polearms designed to be used by warriors, paladins, and death knights, as they're probably the most under-represented weapon in the game.

Read my mind.
All would be awesome.
Foxfyr Sep 15th 2011 10:01AM
I've always thought they should add an Epic Flail to the game.
Kolumbus Sep 15th 2011 10:30AM
Any why should the succubi have all the fun?
vocenoctum Sep 15th 2011 12:55PM
When I read the article title, before reading the article, I instantly thought a "chain/flail/whip" category would be ideal. Make some agility and some intel, allow shaman, rogue, warlock to wield them. I don't think there's an effective/simple way to add 'reach" to the game for melee and it'd probably be unbalanced, but it'd be cool.
ukdude Sep 15th 2011 8:10AM
Vex + Hel + El + Eld + Zod + Eth
That is exactly what I would add to wow
gregomyeggo Sep 15th 2011 1:14PM
khalims flail?
