The OverAchiever: Guide to Brewfest 2011 achievements, page 2

Does Your Wolpertinger Linger? Easy! The cute but somewhat vicious-looking wolpertinger pet is a reward for the one-time quest Catch the Wild Wolpertinger! (Alliance) or Catch the Wild Wolpertinger! (Horde). Each starts from the factions' central festival areas outside Ironforge or Orgrimmar respectively, with Goldark Snipehunter for the Alliance and Glodrak Huntsniper for the Horde.
In contrast to Down With The Dark Iron, this is slightly harder to do early in the holiday with lots of people getting their quests and achievements, as there are only so many wild wolpertingers needed for the quest running around the festival area at a given moment. Keep at it. They respawn quickly, so a little persistence is all you need.
For die-hard pet collectors, this is one of the more interesting pets in that other players will be unable to see your wolpertinger unless they're drunk.
The Brewfest Diet (required for the meta)
The Brewfest Diet is one of the less time-consuming (but more filling) achievements, The Brewfest Diet requires you to purchase and eat eight specific foods sold by Brewfest vendors. None of the items sold are very expensive, and doing the achievement will only cost you 20 silver and 68 copper. All of the vendors will be found in the central festival areas outside Orgrimmar and Ironforge.
For low-level players, please note that there are level restrictions on many of these foods, and unless you're at least level 65, you will not be able to complete this achievement.
- Dried Sausages, Savory Sausages, Spicy Smoked Sausages, Pickled Sausages, Succulent Sausages and the Golden Link are all sold by the Brewfest sausage vendors Keiran Donoghue (Alliance) and Bron (Horde).
- The Essential Brewfest Pretzel is sold by Arlen Lochlan (Alliance) and Uta Roughdough (Horde).
- Spiced Onion Cheese (bleh) is sold by Anne Summers (Alliance) and Agnes Farwithers (Horde).

Coren Direbrew is arguably the poster child for Blizzard's decision to link holiday bosses to the Dungeon Finder. It used to take absolute ages for Direbrewfest groups to get moving because nobody wanted to make the long trek to Blackrock Depths. Horde groups were particularly notorious for this, as people were usually traveling from Orgrimmar, and BRD is not one of the more convenient dungeons coming from that particular city. Add to this Coren's popularity as a farming target -- he drops a lot of good stuff, including the the Great Brewfest Kodo, the Swift Brewfest Ram, and Direbrew's Remote -- and you see the problem.
Ah well -- that's all in the past. Pull up your Dungeon Finder (the default hotkey for this is I), and in addition to usual options for normal, heroic, and Zandalari heroics, you'll find a Coren Direbrew option for the duration of Brewfest. If you're already in a group, you can queue for everyone to go (or have someone else do it for you); if not, you can kill Coren with random players. If you've never done the Coren fight before, here's a rundown, with more information available on his Wowpedia page. He's a very easy fight.
His 2011 loot table should be as follows:
- Bitterer Balebrew Charm
- Bubblier Brightbrew Charm
- Petrified Pickled Egg
- Brawler's Trophy
- Coren's Chilled Chromium Coaster
- Mithril Stopwatch
- Direbrew's Bloodied Shanker
- Tremendous Tankard O'Terror The one-hand mace traditionally dropped by Coren is still a BOE. If you don't manage to get a drop but would still like one (I imagine that transmogrification makes this an even more attractive option), check the Auction House. Be warned that these tend to command hugely inflated prices.
- Great Brewfest Kodo
- Swift Brewfest Ram
- Direbrew's Remote This is one of the most interesting holiday drops in the game and can teleport you once per hour to the Grim Guzzler (the BRD bar). For classes without a lot of travel options, this provides you with an easy way to reach the Eastern Kingdoms. As an added bonus, you can get a performance from The Artists Formerly Known as Level 80 Elite Tauren Chieftain each time you take the Remote. Just speak to the goblin roadies at the drum set.

Fortunately for anyone with terrible luck, Have Keg, Will Travel is no longer dependent on getting lucky with a mount drop off the holiday boss. If you don't already have a Brewfest mount and can't coax Coren Direbrew into dropping one (which is rare these days with the daily loot bag), just buy some Fresh Brewfest Hops from the token redeemer for the measly sum of 2 tokens, pull out whatever mount you like, and /use the Hops. You can also buy the Preserved Brewfest Hops for 20 tokens, but even the cheap version will get you the achievement.
A Brew-FAST Mount (not required for the meta)
Assuming you manage to get either the Great Brewfest Kodo or the Swift Brewfest Ram (and you should if you're religious about killing Coren Direbrew once a day), you should automatically nab A Brew-FAST Mount, a feat of strength.
Drunken Stupor (not required for the meta)
Paladins, rogues, druids and mages won't have any more difficulty with Drunken Stupor than they had with Going Down? due to immunity effects or less fall damage taken, but it's easy to do if you know where to go. Get "completely smashed" -- as with Disturbing the Peace, the type of liquor you use doesn't matter -- and head for Shattrath. Jump (don't step) off the bridge at this location. The distance to the ground from the bridge is slightly less than 65 yards (which is why you have to jump), and you should get the achievement without dying.
For added fun, bring a bandage with you, and you can get Ultimate Triage directly afterwards, if you don't have it already.
Strange Brew (Alliance) or Strange Brew (Horde) (not required for the meta)
The Horde and the Alliance versions of Strange Brew are slightly different, as each faction has different competing breweries, but it's still pretty straightforward. You'll find the NPCs you need in the festival areas:
Alliance
- Barleybrew Clear, Barleybrew Light and Barleybrew Dark are all sold by the Barleybrew Apprentice.
- Gordok Grog, Ogre Mead and Mudder's Milk (Firefly reference!) are all sold by the Gordok Brew Apprentice.
- Thunder 45, Thunderbrew Ale and Thunderbrew Stout are all sold by the Thunderbrew Apprentice.
- Brewdoo Magic, Jungle River Water and Stout Shrunken Head are all sold by T'chali's Voodoo Brewery Apprentice.
- Gordok Grog, Ogre Mead and Mudder's Milk are all sold by the Gordok Brew Apprentice.
- Long Stride Brew, Path of Brew and Small Step Brew are all sold by Drohn's Distillery Apprentice.
Brew of the Year is actually not something you can do during Brewfest itself. Assuming you've joined the Brew of the Month Club, once a month, you'll be sent a bottle of booze in the mail. Open your mail, chug the bottle, throw the bottle to smash on the nearby pavement, and if you drink all 12 monthly brews over the course of the year, you've got your achievement.
Most of the brews have funny secondary effects. So far, the most interesting has been the Lord of Frost's Private Label, which can turn you into an ice block. Given that ice blocks play a prominent, lifesaving role on some raid encounters, it's not surprising that players have had some fun with this. I'll let a video titled "How to Wipe in Naxxramas Using Beer" speak for itself.

The tankard of terror was abundand last year and I was able to get some under their vendor value. Just wait a few days until everyone and his whole family and their alts punched Coren 24/7 to pick one up.

Oh and I hope that I won't forget to drink the last brew which my priest missed twice.

It would be an upgrade for my DK and my shaman so here's hoping the market gets glutted again.
Amaxe Sep 15th 2011 10:49AM
Bleah... not my DK obviously.
Dammit coffee, kick in already!

You should be able to run this multiple times a day like every other holiday since the dungeon finder came out, so just keep running it till whatever you want drops (the only thing that drops once a day are the mounts)

I still have the tankards from last year when the prices went under. They're fun to dual wield. Don't listen to the haters. Just because it isn't for our class doesn't mean we can't put them to good use. Transmogrify two Gurubashi Punishers to look like tankards! If you're a Dwarf, this makes it even more fun!
The Dewd Sep 15th 2011 1:55PM
Actually what drops once a day is the loot bag - so anything that isn't in the loot bag (i.e. the loot Corin will drop directly) can be farmed. Anything the bag (the shanker, the mounts, etc) is a once-a-day opportunity. If the Fire Festival is any indication, some folks will get multiples and some won't get what they want but I guess it averages out.

I've not been playing WoW in Cataclysm. I came back for a trial and got my main to 80.99999 thinking I may reactivate Friday and rush to get to a suitable level for Coren...on that topic...anyone know what the Min-Level is going to be for him this year?
woecip Sep 15th 2011 9:39AM
85
tgrhwke Sep 15th 2011 9:42AM
Holiday bosses usually require that a character is within two levels below whatever the current game max level is, so this year it should be 83.
Haiko Sep 15th 2011 9:52AM
Lower than 85 for the dungeonfinder... I think that one could queue the last years from 77 and higher (so my guess would be 82+), but below 84 they would not bring enough ooompf so in practice the other 4 would be 4-(wo)maning the fight.
What I wonder about is, can my lvl 63 (soon 65 for the food achie) dwarf just run into the dungeon with 4 85 friends, go to the bar and have a go at Coren?
In other words, can my level 65 dwarf become the Brewmaster he already is at heart?
Shinae Sep 15th 2011 10:05AM
@Haiko
No, Coren will not be in BRD if you run in via the instance portal. With the way that holiday bosses work now, he'll only spawn in the instance that is created from the dungeon finder. So all toons will need to be eighty-something in order to even get a kill credit.
So get leveling! ;)
tgrhwke Sep 15th 2011 10:07AM
@ Haiko
Holiday bosses are now only available through the Dungeon Finder so all five players must be able to queue for the boss to spawn.
It may be possible that once the group has queued and is inside the instance for one or more to drop group and invite the lower level character(s), wait for them to get to the location and then start the encounter. I haven't tried this personally so I'm not sure if it actually works or not.
darkjapheth Sep 15th 2011 10:14AM
Weeeell.. not strictly true. I have a level 40 or so priest that nabbed The Hallowed title with a dungeon finder headless horseman run, and my Death Knight got it at level 70 during Wrath, also with the Dungeon Finder.
The trick involves Warlocks. Grab four guildies, including (hopefully) a Warlock. Queue for Coren Direbrew, then drop a summoning portal. Leave the group, don't let them find a new person. Log into the alt, and have them summon you inside.
WHY THIS WORKS-
The dungeon itself won't spawn Coren, but it -does- spawn the entire instance... and unless they fixed the loophole, you only need to be high enough level to do the dungeon.
Those four players will need to be able to beat Coren without you, though, since he'll pretty much instagib you.
Bapo Sep 15th 2011 11:25AM
what Dark said. Pretty much you just need to be the appropriate level to enter the instance. We did this a lot last year and with Hollow's End.
Kar On E Sep 15th 2011 3:49PM
It looks like it was perhaps meant to be 83, but that it's set for 84.

Ahune for 2011 had to be 84 to go into LFG and summon him. You could go to the instance manually but were SOL for summoning. So any tricks won't work. You have to go thru LFG to summon- unless they change it. If you want to try you don't need a warlock- find someone willing to summon you with Have group will travel. You don't need to be in their guild just their party. If someone is willing to try and down Coren with 4 85s and a lower toon, go for it. I'm sure there might be some that can pull it off.

Great write up as always from this site. But brewfest is yet another insidious time vampire constructed by Blizzard to keep the sheep glued to the game. The only valid thing about brewfest IMOP is the half baked trinkets and a smattering of other epics.

I think you may be in the wrong place - this is a beer festival, not a whine festival...
