Anyone else think Blizz really stepped up their game? I'm liking the look of T13 a lot more than many of the previous.

Cool! Thanks. Most of this tier was attempting to play off a new ability the class got in Cataclysm, so for instance Time Warp for mages and Wild Mushroom for druid, in some cases (like warrior or warlock) there's playing off of the raid and those themes, and then for others it's a bit more just doing something we think represents the class in a more abstract manner.

you guys HAD to have known the flak youd get from the choice of names for the mage armor, right? you guys were sitting around the table and someone said 'timelord' and you all spent the next hour making dr who jokes.

Flak? What's wrong with Dr. Who?

The T13 hat should have been a Fez
Fezzes are cool
Windswept Sep 15th 2011 11:21PM
I can't upvote this enough. I want a Fez for my birthday next month :)

I dunno. A bowtie in the neck slot? Just doesn't feel right.

I would really have liked a long coat with a VERY LONG scarf.

To my mind, that blue post almost confirms that the Doctor Who reference was intentional rather than accidental. :)
I wonder - I know Blizzard loves its pop-culture references (there's even a few other Doctor Who references in the game), but I wonder if this is the highest profile reference they've done - naming an entire teir set after a race from a TV show...
Adam Holisky Sep 15th 2011 10:54PM
It was intentional, they were fully aware of what they were doing.
Windswept Sep 15th 2011 11:25PM
I love Blizzard. Real-world tie-ins such as this just prove how awesome they are.
And on a side note... OMG RIVERSONG IS PONDS DAUGHTER AND A TIMELORD. OMG!!

It can't compare to the entire frakking zone dedicated to "Harrison" Jones (along with his two other previous appearances.) In fact, it seems rather small in comparison, though I suppose if you never quest you might have only seen him the once.
Literaltruth Sep 15th 2011 11:37PM
Yeah you're right - the Indy stuff in Uldum does beat this. I had forgotten about it as I had spent the last 5months suppressing the memories. Thanks for reminding me....:/

I'd *much* rather be a companion to The Doctor than the Short Round to Doctor Jones.

@windswept
I agree with everything you said in spades. But gave you a downvote because spoilers. Sorry. Not this fandom.

Spoilers? That info and episode has been out for over 3 months...

After so many tiers, I can imagine that it must be difficult to keep coming up with something new and interesting. Kudos to Blizzard for taking a chance and doing something different for the new mage tier. ^_^ I know it'll be a while before I can get it, but considering my mage's focus on engineering, I'd really like to get this tier for her someday.
Bapo Sep 16th 2011 12:03AM
I'm worried the "more represents the class in an abstract manner" will be directed at paladins, or hunters. : /
Also, whenever I think of time lord, I think of the nes game. Is that wrong?

Bashiok seems to hint that pallies may be inspired by Guardian of Ancient Kings:

I'm OK with this.

Please let death knight not be skulls. They always give us skull tiers. :(
Murdertime Sep 16th 2011 12:09AM
Themed off new abilities they got...
As a rogue, I'm looking forward to my redirect themed set.
Cyno01 Sep 16th 2011 12:24AM
Combat Readiness is one of the coolest looking spell effects in the game.
IDK if smoke bomb would work, a bunch of rogue tiers have smoke effects.
