Breakfast Topic: Do you blog about WoW?

Have you ever noticed that a search for tips about WoW brings up about a million blogs on the subject? Blogs can be found on nearly every aspect of WoW -- you can find lore blogs, class blogs, race blogs, profession blogs ... You name it, there's a blog on it.
I personally maintained a blog for raiding mages for a while, but I had to let it go when my raiding group went on hiatus and I simply couldn't fit any of the other raiding groups into my schedule. I'd like to get back to it. It was a lot of fun, and I also noticed that since I was trying to pay really close attention to mechanics so that I could pass the information on to other mages, it made me a better raider. My husband currently writes a blog about being a dad who games. I know that there are a bunch of those out there too, but it's fun for him to discuss situations that come up in his daily life with other people who understand completely.
What about you? Do you blog about WoW or gaming in general? What's your specific topic of expertise? Do you feel like you have a lot to contribute on the subject? Have you thought about starting a blog but just haven't found your niche yet? Do have any specific blogs about WoW that you really like?

Ive been wanting to for a while now, but I can't think of any one topic that I would be able to focus on for an extended period of time. Besides that, I know it would just become another one of my neglected projects that I get really excited about at first and forget about after two weeks.

Even though I've been playing WoW for over 4 years, I didn't really get into reading WoW blogs until last summer. The Cata beta was in full swing, and I started a new job that involved down-time and a web browser. I couldn't access sites that were flagged for "gaming" but I could look at blogging sites all I liked.
I started out with reading blogs of those who were in the Cata beta, and then I found the WoW blogging community at large. Since then, I've been wanting to start my own, but writing is rather daunting to me, when it's not the bite-sized chunks I often put on this site or my guild's.
I do have a few blog names reserved on Wordpress, my main one being "ShieldSpec" because my favorite toons are a prot warrior, a resto/ele shaman, and a disc priest. Oh, and I have an uncoming prot/holy paladin. So yeah, I like shields. :)
Hello to fellow Wordpress bloggers that I've just followed! Perhaps I will be inspired to write something soon.

I still say you should just sit down and try to blog. Your posts don't need to be long to be good! :)
Bravetank Sep 16th 2011 11:51AM
Trying this again- can't seem to get this posting business to work...!
I agree with HappyTreeDance (after what she said about my blog I'd agree to anything - thank you HappyTreeDance!)
Just go for it! Start writing. You might not even know what you want to write about until you start. And then you might not be able to stop. And short can sometimes be very good. I try- but I always have something more to say!
Go for it!!!

Amen to that! I need to follow this advice myself and actually write non-blocks of text sometimes. Less can definitely be more!

I blog over at thewownoob.blogspot.com about whatever pops into my head. Mostly priestly stuff and alts and pretty screencaps, but hey, over 300 posts!

I started my blog with the intent of writing about WoW from an OOC perspective... but I found that I didn't like anything I actually wrote after I wrote it. I tended to only post when I was upset or frustrated or felt preachy, and that really makes for a whiny, irritating read.
So now it's entirely a character blog. Stories, journal entries, the like. I'm enjoying it for the character development/record aspects, and my few readers enjoy it for the angsty belf drama. ;-)

No. I used to use a blog to write stories about my characters, but I decided to take that down once I ran into some guild drama which left me resigning from the guild. Since the blog involved guildmate characters who I did not know if they would want me to continue to use them, I took the blog down to avoid problems.
Been thinking of doing a different one.

Some of my comments feel like blogs. . .

I've started (and stopped) a couple blogs over the years. One was largely an online journal of sorts, just my own random musings about the game and system and pretty much just meant for my own use or the viewing of friends.
For a few months, I had a shaman blog that I maintained. The sad thing was, while I really enjoyed it and tried to write it as a public/community blog - I thought nobody was reading it so I stopped updating it as a waste of time. Turns out in an embarrassing moment of noobness, I had it set to require comment moderation for unregistered users - so I just recently found out that apparently quite a lot of people were reading and giving really great, positive feedback! But since I didn't find those until well over a year after I stopped writing, well...guess I missed my spot in the limelight.
Recently, I dusted off an older effort I had - Guild Leading 101 (gl101.wordpress.com) because I'm getting ready to retire from my WoW guild and so I'm both working on trying to train up and cover everything I learned in the last 5 years of leading for my successor, but also to very closely examine the last 5 years of leadership for myself, so that I can think about what went well and what I want to do differently for our upcoming TOR effort. I honestly don't know if it would be "readable" by a larger community, I tend to be verbose. But I think a lot of what I've learned and experienced is useful in any MMO, be it TOR, WoW, RIFT, or whatever. Leadership is leadership, no matter where you go. I guess my aspiration had always been to have a blog oriented along the lines of Scott Andrews' Officer Quarters, though I also find it can sometimes be hard to write guild or leadership advice if you're not getting questions. So maybe my long-term goal is to have a leadership blog with people who write comments or email in with questions, in addition to just my own thoughts or advice from 5 years of running a guild in WoW (and probably another 10 years serving as an officer or admin on MUDs before that.)
Anyway if any aspiring or former guild leaders/officers want to provide constructive feedback, it would be appreciated! http://gl101.wordpress.com/

I do blog about WoW. First, my silly paladin pugging stories that I later converted to Manalicious: http://manalicious.wordpress.com. I've been blogging almost two years now, and it's been a really fun experience. I end up writing about guild leading, news, raiding, mages and paladins (depending on what I'm playing) with some art stuff thrown in approximately weekly for good measure. I suppose it's an eclectic mix.
I did want to mention, since a few people have remarked that they sometimes want to write something but don't necessarily want to maintain a blog to do so - that in addition to the "Seed" program here on WoW Insider (which is limited to folks in the US, no love for us Canucks) most bloggers would also LOVE to get guest posts. It can be a nice way to ensure content, let someone dip their toes into blogging or say their peace on one particular topic, without needing the commitment of starting a blog themselves.
That said, if you find you often have things to say about WoW, start your own blog and make it known! I love finding new blogs to read. Blog Azeroth (http://www.blogazeroth.com/) is a great place for new bloggers to announce themselves, meet, and participate in things like shared blogging topics.

yeah I sorta do.... I have a blog where it's main focus is soloing old stuff in wow (yeah I know, I'm stepping on Frosthelm's toe's) I thought that if I could put every youtube vid that had good into into one spot it would be at least uninformative..

Yes I still blog about WoW! I started blogging regularly in April and don't plan on stopping soon. It's mostly newbie guides, but some more advanced stuff too. Here's the link: http://www.how-to-warcraft.com

I do blog. Or I did. Although I'm constantly getting ideas for posts I haven't posted in a while. It just feels a little futile...like everything that happens in WoW news is so immediately and ravenously over-discussed that by the time I've marshaled my own thoughts on a subject it's already over and done with.
Tygerwolfe Sep 16th 2011 5:59PM
I do blog about WoW, fairly regularly. I also blog about other games, though my blog is primarially spiritual/personal. Any time there's a blog with the "Tooth & Arrows" tag, there's a good chance it's a WoW related blog. ("These Ancient Eyes" is the tag for my non-gaming Blog entries.)
http://www.tygerwolfe.com/ :P
I don't go into super details on anything, really, and there's no guides. However, I do talk about my experiences and just generally have fun with it. :)

Yes, I do. It's called Tank Out of Water and contains professional swearing.

On occasion I blog about the WoW. I used to have a guild with forums to tend to, which I loved to write big epic posts in, but life pulled me away from the game for a long while. Those forums disappeared so I needed a new place to put my random WoW babblings, thus I started blogging! I tended to do it a bit more while I was away from the game, but I try to keep both of my blogs at least somewhat updated, even now that I'm once again heavily playing.
World of Saz - Anything and everything WoW-related. A few minor shaman guides, a couple of gear sets, and a whole lot of hoarding. Sometimes I go on random rants about guilds, player types that I run into, or I'll write about some other random topic that gives me a bug in my bonnet. http://serenitysaz.blogspot.com/
Feral By Nature - A fanfic blog based on my druid. It's a complete work in progress, and it's definitely an area of writing that I'm still not quite used to. Just a fun little side project for myself. http://slashpounce.blogspot.com/
