Breakfast Topic: Who is your in-game nemesis?
This Breakfast Topic has been brought to you by Seed, the AOL guest writer program that brings your words to WoW Insider's pages.
During a break from WoW this summer, I took some time to try out some of the other MMOs out there. One of the ones I really enjoyed was Champions Online: Free for All, a free-to-play MMO on the Steam network. Aside from the incredible character customization (it took me hours to fine-tune my superhero outfit!), one of the things I most enjoyed about it was the concept of the Nemesis. At some point during the leveling-up experience, you get a chance to design and create your character's own supervillain ... who then randomly pops up from time to time to make your day more difficult!
Now that I'm back to World of Warcraft, I keep thinking about that concept. Who would be my toon's main antagonist? Even though it's not possible to design one, there are tons of great villains to pick from in Azeroth. For my main, a Blood Elf paladin, I figure Kael'thas fits best. Lore-wise, he betrayed his people by making them dependent on demonic magic, so he'd be the top of any Sin'dorei hit list . It's also nice that whenever I am bored or frustrated with endgame content, he is always waiting in Magister's Terrace for me to pound on in hopes of getting a white chicken to ride!
Who is your in-game nemesis? Is it a player from the opposing faction who is always capping flags in your battlegrounds? Is it that druid who is constantly grabbing your herbs a second before you can? Is it a raid boss your group is having trouble on? Is there a particular mob (or critter) that you cannot stand to let live?

Omg yes that bird. It was insane! It hit like it was at least 20 levels higher than the stuff in the zone. The emotes just rubbed it in.

Murmur (heroic).

There is a drogon or a couple of dragon's who clambag me routinely. They are elites and tend to fly high. I remember one got me while exploring blades edge and he fricken camped me! When I rezzed he got me again. I was so pissed!

Yup, that Overlord quest is beyond hard for a group not made of the holy trinity. Caster adds need to burn in hell.

Whenever I have reason to be in Un'Goro, I find the first Devilsaur and slaughter it.
My baby druid (and still my main) went rolling out to Un'Goro in the 50's and picked up the druid quest. I didn't know much about the game still, so when I got to "Toxic Test" (go look it up if you don't know it), I assumed the game designers would not put me in a situation to be mercilessly slaughtered.
I walked right up to the nearest Devilsaur, jumped in front of it, and stabbed it with the barb. Three seconds later, I was a smear of druid on the ground, wisping my way back to my corpse.
I think of them like I think of spiders: stay out of my way and I'll let you go about your business. Step in my line of sight and you're done. /rawr.

ARRRRRRRGH MOR'LADIM!
On my very first character, back when he was still a level 35 Elite, he snuck up on me more than once when I got careless in Raven Hill. To this day, any time I'm going through Duskwood, I make a point to swing by and kill him.
Kylenne Sep 18th 2011 9:48AM
This brings me back to my days as a noob, when I was still Alliance. D:
The best part about that bastard was how he would gank you all day long, but then when you actually got the quest to kill him and rounded up a group, YOU COULD NEVER FIND HIM.
Sleutel Sep 18th 2011 9:52AM
@Kylenne:
YES! I am fairly sure this is true of any obnoxious mobs in the game. I'm pretty sure having the quest in your logs puts a hidden debuff on you that makes them pat in other areas.
ravyncat Sep 18th 2011 12:17PM
He is mine as well. My baby pally died to him so many times. >_<
I remember the satisfaction of finally reaching level 40 something and going back and finally killing him.
Now I make sure to kill him on every character if I happen to be near Duskwood. He earned it.
The only other creature that has earned wrath like that from me is a Fel Reaver.
Sleutel Sep 18th 2011 1:48PM
@ravyncat:
I actually got mad at a random passerby who stopped to help me with a Fel Reaver one day when I happened to be passing through HFP and decided to kill one for SWEET REVENGE. I was all, "NOOOOOO IT DOESN'T COUNT UNLESS I SOLO HIM."
So when the person flew off after the Reaver was dead, I mounted up and found another one. :D

He's a big pussy-cat. He got me a few times but once I got a few more levels on me I always made sure to help anyone out in duskwood who needed him. Now when I blow thru there with my heirlooms on, by the time I get the quest I am soling him. They probably nerfed him a little bit. Duskwood is still my favorite zone in the game. Glad they didn't change it too much.
Sleutel Sep 18th 2011 6:49PM
@Noyou:
Let me guess... You started playing during Wrath or Cataclysm, right?
Until late TBC, Mor'Ladim was a mid-30s Elite. Mid. 30s. Elite. Not the 30 Elite he was in late TBC, not the 25 Elite he is now. If you were questing in Duskwood at anything like the right level, he would con as a skull and tear your face off. So, yeah, they did "nerf him a little bit."

As a Tauren, I cannot stand the Grimtotem. Every time I see them, I run through their numbers and decimate all of them with a few well-placed swipes. I hate them so much I'm debating doing the Thousand Needles achievement for my Loremaster because it involves working with Magatha, even freeing her from the Twilight's Hammer. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's traitors.
I'm even opposed to the forsaken, due to their close ties with the scourge (especially after Sylvanas recruited the same Valky'r from Northrend to raise new forsaken that the Lich King used to make scourge), their means of killing their enemies, and their underhanded tactics. I have never rolled one, and I never will, I think I'll stay with my one of each class system, with four tauren, four blood elves and two orcs.
Noyou Sep 18th 2011 6:29PM
As an ally I don't like them much either amd I am still pissed the way blizz handled all the good lore in the game, pretty much putting it all in their books. But that's another rant all together.
Persev Sep 18th 2011 8:59AM
Hogger, killing him in an all level one raid wasnt enough...
