Blizzard clarifies transmogrification rules

Personally, I am still of the opinion that a lot of the fun items that will not be available for transmog purposes should be. It's Warcraft, after all, and the goofy aesthetic has permeated all aspects of the game. It's not a huge loss, but one that would have its fun purposes. All in all, these transmog rules feel pretty lenient and acceptable to me, and I think that the new system is a great step in the right direction for more player customization.
Blizzard clarifies transmogrification guidelines
Since we announced the transmogrification feature coming to World of Warcraft with patch 4.3, we have monitored thousands of follow-up comments, questions and suggestions from players all over the world.
What follows is our current list of rules for transmogrification. This is a set of rules that we expect to change over time, and is not intended to be 100% comprehensive, but we hope that it can be referenced to answer most questions that players currently have about what they can and cannot expect to be able to do with transmogrification.
• The character must be able to equip both items.
• Only common (green), rare (blue) or epic (purple) items may be transmogrified. (exceptions: a select few of these items will prevented from being used to transmogrify if they are inappropriate)
• Items must share the same armor type (examples: plate for plate, cloth for cloth)
• Weapons must be the same weapon type (exceptions: Guns, Crossbows, or Bows)
• Guns, Crossbows, and Bows can be used to transmogrify Guns, Crossbows, or Bows.
• Main hand weapons can only be used to transmogrify Main hand weapons.
• Off-hand weapons can only be used to transmogrify Off-hand weapons.
• One handed weapons can be used to transmogrify a Main hand or Off-hand weapon.
• Using an item for transmogrify makes it soulbound.
• Using an item for transmogrify makes it non-refundable.
• Using an item for transmogrify makes it non-tradable.
• Heirlooms and Account Bound items can be transmogrified.
• Heirlooms and Account Bound items can be used to transmogrify.
• Legendary items cannot be transmogrified.
• Legendary items cannot be used to transmogrify.
• Fishing Poles cannot be transmogrified.
• Fishing Poles cannot be used to transmogrify.
• Mailing an item strips its transmogrification.
• Placing an item in Void Storage strips its transmogrification.
• Vendoring an item strips its transmogrification.
• The displayed enchant will be that of the currently equipped item.
• There may be individual items that are excluded from being transmogrified on the basis that they were originally added to the game as absurdities. (examples: a weapon that looks like a fish, or a chest piece that is invisible)

I know, but I really love that Broom! :D

Tuxedo Pants are a white item - bummer. Very simple piece that was working perfectly with the gear I had selected to xmog. I hope Blizz changes their minds about white items...

Well dang. There goes all my effort in collecting common dresses to wear. There's some nice ones out there, too. Boo!

Why do they put limits on legendary weapons? And why the strict rules on Plate for plate, leather for leather and cloth for cloth?
Lotro who has had a beautiful appearance tab like feature is even relaxing its rules because it sees no point in these kind of restrictions. Why cant the developers here with this game learn from others with experience?
Or doth the mighty blizzard think its transmog idea was an original idea and that they are treading on new ground here?

Limits... In part, it's the silhouette issue. People in plate (or chain, leather, cloth) are clearly recognizable as such, making their class readily distinguishable (within limits).
Legendaries partly as a warning, partly as a reward. They're distinctive, they have unique art, the items often have unique proprties. Appearing as if you are wielding a legendary weapon leads to particular expectations. (For instance, that you're nuts for wielding Sulfuron at 85.)
I am familiar with LOTRO monster play, but I'm not really familiar with LOTRO "good guy" pvp. If it only has "player v monster" play, then silhouette issues are moot.

Only exception I can think of for the Legendary Weapon image thing is the "potion of illusion", and that I've not proven one way or the other yet.

Can you imagine walking into a heroic dungeon only to find everyone with Thunderfury strapped to their backs?
That would definitely kill the mood. (Not that it would happen, but it could if transmog allowed that.)

"Using an item for transmogrify makes it soulbound"
"Mailing an item strips its transmogrification."
Shall I assume that this only applies to account bound items?

So we won't be able to raid in Brewfest Regalia?

So if I xmog my helm to the warlock tier helm that procs the wings effect, will they still appear?

Until I can make my current gear look like my full Twill Set, I am uninterested.

I too don't agree with the 'sillyness' factor being an issue. SOMEONE made those items, so they should be celebrated along with all the other items. And really, how many people will actually do it? Do they expect that they'll see a raid full of people wielding fish? Probably won't happen. And if it does? So what! The game has enough comedy in it that I don't think drawing the line here makes any sense.
Personally, I won't be using silly items, but I would have liked to use some white and grey items, for at least some of my characters (probably not my main).
Lastly, I also don't agree with the legendary restrictions either. If people are going to go to the lengths they have to in order to get a legendary, they should be able to show them off. I think it would add to the exotic nature of the legendaries. I personally don't have any legendaries, but I don't see what's wrong with it. I could see if you didn't have to have the item, but if you have to put the work in to actually get it anyway, then you might as well be allowed to show it off.
