Patch 4.3: Rogue legendaries, Raid Finder, and more

First, the rogue legendary is actually a pair of legendaries -- specifically, a pair of daggers named the Fangs of Father (which may be a mistranslation), according to Taiwanese Gamebase. GC explains across his interviews that rogues have understandably felt left out of this expansion both in terms of numbers and content, so giving them a legendary of their own was a good way to get them into the spotlight. The quest line for these daggers will revolve around the single pure black dragon egg that players helped protect in the Badlands. The dragon will hatch (it's a boy!) and lead rogues on a time- and gold-consuming quest around the world for their well-earned blades.
GC also discussed the Raid Finder, which will take advantage of an entirely new raid difficulty. Blizzard estimates the difficulty as somewhere between 5-man heroics and normal-mode raids, with the gear filling the same gap. Raid Finder instances are not planned to lock you out of normal or heroic raids.
Speaking of raids, melee classes will get a buff in the Deathwing raid to compete with ranged classes; think of it like a melee-exclusive ICC buff. Also, epic gems will finally make their appearance as drops in the Deathwing raid.

I for one am happy for all the backstabbing bastards.

I'm worried we'll start seeing "[MY CLASS/SPEC] WAS UNDER-APPRECIATED FOR THE WHOLE EXPANSION! GIVE ME MY LEGENDARY!" posts from here on out. :(

What gets me is that this goes counter to so much. Devoting resources to class specific quests is bad, but giving a class specific legendary is fine.
Cataclysm is the expansion that screams "SHAMAN" and yet the only faction for shaman is an old one. Druids got 2 new factions to go along with the 2 they already have. The first legendary is not in flavor of what elemental shaman would want and now the time where they could give Shaman that special bit of focus in an expansion they would do well with, it goes to rogues and only rogues.
A weapon able to be a caster weapon or agility melee weapon and have it be a fist, axe, or mace as an option. This gives a lot of classes a chance at it, including rogues, while still making shaman the center point as all 3 specs could use it.
The broken hilt should have been the model for legendaries. Pick 1 of 2-4 possible outcomes. Give them all the same model or something similar AND DON'T LEAVE OUT NINE CLASSES.

@Angus If shamans got all these things from the expansion why do they need to have a legendary? Especially if the point of this legendary is to give a class something flashy? I think it would be smarter for it to be an agility melee weapon so you could get a few more classes out of it but even then it makes it a hunter/rogue weapon with 2 specs of druid and shaman.

I actually miss the Battered Hilt style "non raid legendary" weapon plotline. I'll not see a raid-legendary any time soon. And heck, if this is the last patch before a new expansion, you'll probably use the daggers very little once you actually get them anyway.
I could see the pair of daggers being usable by hunters or maybe druids/enhance shaman, but at the same time, the focus on rogue seems really neat from the quest standpoint.
You're going to have to pickpocket parts off Deathwing, watch! :-p

What??? They can't remove the Dragon soul from the timeline. It would essentially delete all of Knaaks books from existance in the timeline.
On Second throughts...

History abhors a paradox.

For the first time this expansion, I am wishing I was raiding current content (my main main is a rogue). I want to see that raid and I want to get those daggers.
I was kinda hoping that it'd involve Ravenholdt in some way though; they *are* the quintessential rogue faction.
RetPallyJil Sep 19th 2011 3:49AM
Who's to say it won't?
Siza Sep 19th 2011 4:42AM
For the first time in this expansion I am actually sad that we have no rogues in our 10m raid setup... It´ll be weird not to have the thrills of "Yaaaaay, legendary drop.... How many counters to go till you can do the next step in quest? w000t *rejoice*" ... Should we break up our nice team and recruit a rogue just to be able to get the weapons? Or won't that be worth it?

Have someone powerlevel a rogue alt!
epicboyz Sep 19th 2011 3:45AM
hunter loot ;P
Draih Sep 19th 2011 10:16AM
Except hunters have a grand total of 0 ways to get the daggers.
Nathanyel Sep 19th 2011 10:36AM
Draih, you don't get it.
Saying "hunter loot" the first time on a discussion is funny, but all replies to that are just un-funny.
Cyno01 Sep 19th 2011 3:47AM
Yes... give everyone a reason to hate rogues even more. I love it. :D
And an epic quest makes it even better, because my guild just imploded, so who knows when ill be raiding.
SR Sep 19th 2011 4:49AM
"Epic quest" usually involves doing crap in raids.
If Dragonwrath was any indication...
PeeWee Sep 19th 2011 6:43AM
None of the previous legendaries were available to non-raiders iirc. Why would this be? =)
grizz Sep 19th 2011 3:49AM
the thing that worries me about the raid finder is that it sounds like from now on we'll be doing five mans, heroic five mans and then random raids to gear up. being in a ten man, casual guild the idea of having to run random raids (which were said to be only 25 man as far as i know) really, really turns me off to the entire raiding side of the game. i do not want to run three tiers of content just to get into the tier im interested in.
cyanea85 Sep 19th 2011 3:55AM
I think the idea is...if you're in a guild that has seen healthy progression through the Firelands, you'll be geared enough to jump right into Deathwing normal mode. Just like Zul's were designed to help people who didn't clear t11, the Deathwing 5-mans will be there for people who didn't finish t12. I don't think Looking For Raid will be part of that. From all indications, it'll be for people who don't raid regularly and wanna see what all the fuss is about, people who don't have a good guild and want to see the fights, and people who want to see the fights and practice some before their guild's normal raid night.
Maymer Sep 19th 2011 7:58AM
I completely agree with you Cyan.
I can vouch for what you're thinking. I love my guild, they're awesome people, but we have always had a horrible time getting progression down at all. Now, Blizzard is saying I not only see the awesome Deathwing fights, but I can ALSO still do some regular attempts for guild achievements and rewards with my friends!? Good lord Blizz, you're going to make me broke from all the roses and cookie bouquets I will be sending you for these changes :D
