I for one am glad for this. Our raid team has been running straight for almost a year now. We are not elitist and not bad, but somewhere in the middle. After so long together our team has all become good friends. We have been on Rag for 3 weeks now and have somewhere over 80 wipes on him. The most frustrating part of it all is because we have wiped so much we are starting to turn on one another. One person having an off night or another not making it for raid has lead to comments that is shaking the friendship we have created. We consistantly strive to be good raiders, but kicking a teammate for being fail is the last thing on our mind. Furthermore, as RL I have had to turn down guild mates to pug spots in the past simply because we know that we have a higher chance of success with pugging a player who has defeated the boss.
Overall this game is about having fun, and for all those teams out there struggling on w/e boss if it be heroic or normal, I think blizzard timed this right. I had really hoped our team would down Rag last week so that we could say we did before the nerfs. But honestly I don't think I will really care when he goes down this week.

i think this is one of the most salient comments so far about the inherent, and often overlooked, elements of raiding.
the camaraderie is really what makes the game for me; of course like any team sport, winning makes the friendship come easier; winning after adversity adds depth and profoundity to the relationships. but endless losing streaks can really rip things apart.
i suspect maybe this is part of the rationale for blizzard's nerfs. Maybe to help forestall the disintegration of guilds... we've seen reports and numbers indicating that 25 man guild/raid teams are slowly wilting away... with 25+ folks banging their heads against the wall (especially in the wow environment that 'expects' to beat content fast because of game-familiarity, generally, among players) and perhaps lightening the load that mechanics play will allow guilds to focus on the cohesion and morale of their teams to keep them running.
