The Queue: The life of Deathwing
Some things in WoW are bad
Legendaries can really make you mad
Those rogues just make you swear and curse.
When you're hitting on Deathwing's plate
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best ...
And ... always stay on the right side of Deathwing ...
Always look on the left side of the gunship ...
And ... scene!
DarkFinch asked:
Out of pure curiosity, can the Queue give an example of when datamining 'caused problems?'
Any time you see something appear on a datamined list and not in the patch notes or it doesn't end up on the live realms (or have any developer comment), it's a problem. A few months ago (maybe a year ago?), there was a lot of huff and puff over druid spells getting changed -- when in reality, it was just some testing being done internally. The standards for a PTR push are much, much less than a full-scale live patch, so stuff like that sneaks in occasionally.
It's all about community perception, too. The datamining problems never really affect gameplay per se but can significantly alter the community's buy-in with current patch changes.
Opposite asked:
i have been taking a break from WoW but am loving the new Tier 13 Mage set previews and this might draw me back. My question is : i have not ran any Cata instances or raids for a long long time and need to know the best way to start collecting (and what to collect) for Tier 13. i assume that i need to wait for 4.3 before i start collecting towards T13? do i need to raid or just run regular/heroic instances? do i need any T12 to upgrade or can i go straight for the T13?
Tier 13 will not be available via valor points at all. The only way you're going to get it is through running raids. Your best bet? Gear now up as best you can, then find a guild and join the fun in the next tier of raiding.
The key, though, is to start now. Put in hard work to your character, and don't expect things to be handed to you by progressed guilds.
Daedalus asked:
One big thing I noticed in the TenTonHammer interview: Ghostcrawler said that no part of tier 13 could be bought with valor points; it's all from raid bosses. That being the case, is there really any reason to still have valor points? Do you think they might just take them out completely in 4.3?
I'm sure there'll be other gear that you can get with valor points. Just because tier gear isn't available doesn't mean other non-tier pieces will be excluded. Think of things like rings, trinkets, wands, cloaks, necks, BOE shoes, etc.
Siza asked:
Are there many 10m raidgroups (like mine) that run Firelands without a rogue? Because we have a nice group that is almost touching heroic versions atm, but we don't have a rogue. The whole guild rejoices for our mage when we get a step closer to getting the staff completed, but we wonder whether we should now recruit a rogue to get that same feeling or whether it just won't be worth breaking up our raidteam for.
Rogues are one of the least-played classes right now, and I'm sure that there are lots of groups running without one.
Don't break up your raid team because of gear. My God, that's the last thing you should do. If everyone can clear the content and see things done, then why change the formula? If someone steps out and a rogue can fill in, then great. But please, do yourself a favor and don't mess with what's working for you.
Wyzim asked:
Did we EVER have a dungeon without normal mode except the revamped ones?
Zul'Gurub and Zul'Aman are "revamped" with no normal mode, but that's it. All the others have some semblance of a normal mode version. It'll be interesting to see if the patch 4.3 dungeons have a normal mode. My guess is that if they do, they will offer i365 gear on normal.

With transmogrification and void storage being fairly expensive services to use, is this enough of a gold sink to handle late-Cataclysm inflation?
Or do we really need yet another version of Traveller's Tundra Mammoth?
e.friedman1992 Sep 20th 2011 11:10AM
IMO, Cata's traveler's mammoth was the Sandstone Drake. I have two of them at the moment. the first one took me about 2 months of farming (I'm not very good at making money) and the second one took even longer because of price drops that happened after the initial launch rush.

Yesterday's Gold Cap article addressed this issue.
Fathertouk Sep 20th 2011 11:16AM
Fox says 'no.' There was a Gold Capped yesterday on the subject.
I welcome a few more gold sinks.
Didax Sep 20th 2011 11:21AM
While yesterday's Gold Capped post did mention transmogrification in passing, it seemed to be calling for an additional gold sink in the vein of the Tundra Mammoth and the Sandstone Drake.
I think the amount of gold that will be sucked out of the economy with void storage and transmogrification will be more significant than Fox's article seemed to suggest.
Of course, there's no way to know at this point (especially considering we don't have a set price point for the services).

I'm guessing the new features will be a bigger gold sink for the casual player than the AH extraordinaire. That is to say, it's my opinion that the majority of players that are going to be storing and transmogging stuff have limited funds. While entrepreneurs can easily afford it, I'm under the impression that they'll ultimately spend less on these features than the financially challenged.
That's part of the problem... The rich know how to stay rich while the poor (tend to) squander away every gold coin on the latest Big Thing and then complain that they have no money and that a new mount/pet gold sink would be unfair.

Honest question here:
Does this game really need another gold sink? Are there really people out there who have bought all of the redemption mounts that sell for hundreds of thousands of gold EACH?? (100,000-500,000g on my server) Mounts like:
Mottled Drake
Magic Rooster Egg
Big Battle Bear
Savage Raptor
Amani Dragonhawk
Blazing Hippogryph
And then there are other mounts like Reins of the Crimson Deathcharger and Reins of Poseidus which sell for near 100,000g on my server also. Has anyone actually bought all of these???
Ice Sep 20th 2011 12:18PM
I always though the less gold sinks means worse time for gold sellers. People have 50k gold with not much to use that for and you can get that amount with few hours week of AH with right professions..why buy gold in that case?
I thought it was intentional because of that.
If there was ton of gold sinks people would feel the urge to have ton of money making more people going to the "black market" and buy gold to get all those cool gold sinks because they cant "keep up" with the spending.
Wolftech Sep 20th 2011 12:30PM
I don't see why they need gold sinks in the first place. Its unfair to those of us who can only spare time to raid and run occasional dungeons. We don't have time to run a full set of dailies every day and spend countless hours gathering mats to make flasks and food.
Abbadon Sep 20th 2011 12:33PM
@ Thundrcrackr
All of them... Who knows? I currently have 7/12 and am looking to add more to my collection if/when they get posted on the AH.
But those items aren't true Gold Sinks as they don't remove the money from the economy. It's just a redistribution of wealth with a slight cut being lost to the AH fees. Then again, most of the time there's a bit of haggling involved, and the deal is done in a trade window. In those cases, there's no money lost to the AH at all.

Abbadon has it right. Those aren't gold sinks because they merely send gold from one player to another. How does that change anything?
A gold sink takes gold out of the economy completely, like when you buy the mats for a Vial of the Sands, or a Traveler's Tundra Mount. And yes...there are plenty of people who have bought all of those types of things. We could use something else to buy to destroy some gold.
TimR Sep 20th 2011 1:14PM
Some people seem to be confused about what a gold sink is and why they are necessary. The Gold Capped article yesterday addressed this pretty well. As others have mentioned, gold sinks remove gold from the economy. Anything you buy on the AH is not a gold sink.
@Wolftech - The reasons you list are exactly why gold sinks are important. Your flasks and mats go up due to inflation, because people have more and more gold to spend. Gold sinks help combat inflation by giving people non-necessary items to spend gold on, thus taking it out of the economy.
Dragoniel Sep 21st 2011 5:50AM
If it was my rule, I would constantly add extremely expensive items to the game. I don't know how about others, but it's a lot more fun trying to make money for some awesome mount (or whatever), than making money to buy consumables.
I also don't like the current situation. Any things worth buying have price tags of tens of thousands already. What's the bloody point on having copper and silver currency at all?
I would love if having 100g actually meant you are bloody rich. Right now I'm starting to feel like I'm playing some korean game again, where you are paying for loaf of bread a couple of billions (think Lineage II, they are probably counting 10 numbers after decimal or something, by now).

@Andre
How should I know? I say a KrotzerComment unresponded to and I reacted. Beats me what it means... That would require a sane person writing.
DarkFinch Sep 20th 2011 11:33AM
You are welcome, Krotzer! Now make sure you don't forget that my birthday is November 10th..
Seriously though, I hope you had a great one. You, as well as most of the other regular commenteers, make this site so much better! =)
