I was terribly disappointed when I heard about the nerfs, and healing yesterday when we did 6/7 (two further than our group has got before) was a joke until we got to Staghelm.
But you know what? I think the nerfs are much more thought out and sensible than last time.
By rights we should be further than we were because we had issues with people turning up, and if we had a couple more weeks we would have downed alice whilst there was actually some damage left in the fight for me to heal. But frankly everyone has these issues, and it doesn't matter what stage people are at when nerfs come they'll always feel "if only we had another week or four" - if you're working on a new boss you always feel if you did that *one* thing better then you'd down them.
The nerfs mean that I'm going to see raggy when we next raid, and we'll probably down him. We'll get a chance to do heroic content, I don't mean I'll get to do it while it's relevant, I mean I'll get to do them. Yes, I've downed Nef post-nerf so I *could* do HC T11, but basically no one wants to do HC T11 now. I want to do it to see the fights, but finding 9 people who want that when the gear is outdated is really hard.
Nerfing T11 while it was old content was a bad idea because the fact new gear was out meant that it was already effectively nerfed. New gear and actual nerfs made the content feel depressingly trivialised except for weakly geared alts. Taking the two steps of nerfing T12 (nerfing mechanics, and releasing new gear) at different times, means the process of nerfing is more gradual and more people are able to meet the content when it is still challenging to them.
Nerfing T12 HC is good because it means the step-up from T12 to T12HC is less extreme, so once we down raggy we're not going to be stack for things to do. Part of the reason it's hard to PUG T11 HCs is because whilst post nerf there are loads of people with the Defender of the Shattered World title they got it by being carried a little, or only because of the nerfs - a lot of defenders never mastered the fights in normal mode, so doing it HC would be impossible for them.
Yes, I'm really disappointed I didn't get further before the nerfs. But I'm just going to suck it up and make the most of it. I'll be bringing my rogue to some of our fights instead of my priest, I'd never get to bring my rogue to current content without the nerfs because my raid needs me to heal in current content. And I'll try to gear my priest up in HC modes in preparation for T13.
