The excitement over it is simply based on the game's lack of real character customization. As a former City of Heroes player, I got pretty spoiled with the ability to create awesome outfits and such. Ever since I came to WoW, I've missed that element of gameplay.

It's not for everyone, to be sure, but it's something people like me have been asking about for years.
