Two new mounts have appeared on the
Korean version of the
World of Warcraft community site that appear to be spectral versions of the windrider and gryphon flying mounts that already carry players across Azeroth.
We have no idea where they will be available or when, but if I had to take an educated guess, I would think they are
patch 4.3 Darkmoon Island rewards of some kind. Take a look at the screenshots in our gallery.
Brace yourselves for what could be some of most exciting updates to the game recently with patch 4.3. Look at what's ahead: new item storage options, cross-realm raiding, cosmetic armor skinning and your chance to battle the mighty Deathwing -- from astride his back!

Why more spectral mounts? I mean, they're nice and all that but why?
vocenoctum Sep 24th 2011 4:11PM
See, first thing I thought of was the link to the Ruined Future dungeon in 4.3, but then I noticed the twilight highlands area, so doubt it's that.
It'd be neat if you rode from place to place in Ruined Future Dragonblight on Spectral Flightpaths.

My guess is: With a ghostly or spectral version it allows them to recycle older mounts, introducing them as "new" mounts.
I suppose they can reverse this as well and bring a recoloring of the sparkle pony if they wanted to.

Ok, I'm confused. Why are people saying enough with the spectrals?
Isn't there only 4, and out of those, 2 require the tcg, and the other 2 are from tol barad?
Am I missing 20something mounts?
Bellajtok Sep 24th 2011 3:00PM
The worry is that we're reaching what I will now refer to as "the drake point"- the point where a previously rare mount type of unspeakable awesome becomes common as dirt. The name arises from the history of drake mounts- In BC, Netherwings were the only drake mount and were prized highly. Today, you are shamed by all if you show up in a capital city without a drake.
Jabadabadana Sep 24th 2011 3:05PM
I think the other half of the equation is the ever increasing number of spectral/spirit pets/mobs out there, and in that, you're getting closer to 20 something. The effect is now starting to wear off after the 50th spectral cat pet and 90th spirit bear.
I may be off base though, but that's what bugs me.
Bellajtok Sep 24th 2011 4:17PM
Jabadabadana has it exactly correct, and that's why we're reaching the drake point. Just like with drakes, people are starting to look at spectrals and see "look a spectral" and not "OMG a spectral! Which one is it?" It's not a problem now, but it will be with these new mounts, and it'll be worse if we get any more.

Comparing spectral mounts to pets is a little apples to oranges here. I am sorry if you are a BM hunter that has a stable of them. I would venture to guess that the majority of WoW players are not. Too many spectrals? Now if you said too many horses or too many drakes you would have a better argument. Too many spectrals? I'll take them.
Bapo Sep 24th 2011 7:52PM
How does 2 readily available mounts = drake status? I think people are over reacting about this in all honesty : / It's not like they're adding 5 different skins for each faction.
Philster043 Sep 24th 2011 2:40PM
I stand corrected, flying manticores it is.
Dude Sep 24th 2011 2:53PM
If this goes in the cash shop I won't be pleased.

You know, people like you are only two steps up in my opinion from random spambots.
"Hey, blah blah blah, generic generic comment about the story. HERE'S MY BLOG SITE!"
No one cares.
Bravetank Sep 24th 2011 3:29PM
Does it matter if someone posts a link in a reply to a topic they are interested in? You are allowed to post 3 as I understand it. Sorry my comment was not detailed enough for you & too generic. I really do like the look of those mounts & had read that information on Twitter yesterday! Nothing more than that to say really. But I am a reader of WoW Insider and perfectly entitled to post a reply to a topic I'm interested in. You don't need to read it. And you certainly don't need to comment in response. And of course you don't need to click on my signature link.

It's because people like you hope to get visitors by essentially spamming a page. Most of the time the comments are so damn generic it's insulting how obvious it is. "I agree with this", "I like this."
You aren't the first person to do it, and you aren't the last. Thousands of people do it a day, and it's spamming, period. You hope to ride the visitors on the site to your site. And when you add the link to every single comment you make, you make yourself look even worse.
If you had an actual comment beyond simply spamming, it would be different. If the article was about a detailed thing, like DPS analysis, or lore, and you started explaining, then said "I have an article on my site about this which goes much more in-depth, and it would be easier to explain it there instead of a comment on here" it would be different.
Instead, it's just a "Hey, I like this. This sounds awesome. VISIT MY BLOG. HERE'S THE LINK. I'M GOING TO CONTINUE TO SPAM THE LINK IN EVERY COMMENT I MAKE."
It makes you look like an attention whore.
Bellajtok Sep 24th 2011 4:19PM
Actually, I have no problem with link signatures to blogs, especially WoW blogs. This is the right place to do it, after all. The problem is the real spammers, who post those virus links. They've trained an instinct reaction to ignore any links and downvote for safety. It's not your fault, but it's true and you ought to consider it when you post.

This here is the Wow insider comments...we take it super serial...suuuper serial
Shaktiri Sep 24th 2011 3:36PM
Always thought these would have been awesome for death knights
Amaxe Sep 24th 2011 3:44PM
Alex Trebek: After a lot of hype and speculation, these mounts wound up in the Blizzard Store.
Player: What are the Spectral Windrider and Gryphon mounts?
Alex Trebek: You are correct for $25.00
Yeah I'm cynical today...
Noyou Sep 24th 2011 7:53PM
Are you kidding me?? If I could buy this for $25 I would do it in a heartbeat. $25 and it immediately goes to EVERY toon you own and any you make in the future?? Do you understand it will probably cost you $15-30 in gametime to grind it out? And that is for ONE toon. To me the purchasable mounts are the most economic ones you can obtain. Whether you like the style of them is a totally different matter.
Amaxe Sep 24th 2011 10:19PM
If you want to buy it, don't think I'm trying to stop you.
Personally, I try not to encourage RMT. I'll do it when it's a charity function.
For me, most of my characters built after the change to movement use the basic flyer and the basic land mount. The mounts special to me are the Cenarion Hippogryph and the Wintersaber mount... done the old way because it did take a long time to get them.
I think the only exception for buying the mount would be with the draenei and their very annoying elekk.
