Breakfast Topic: What holiday does Azeroth still need?

I won't lie: I've resubbed to WoW for Brewfest. No joke. I don't even drink in real life, but I love Azeroth's in-game event. The fun toys, the celebration, getting folks together to do things in game that aren't just for progression but for fun ...
Sure, some events get revamped, but there are some dead spots on the calendar. Wouldn't it be cool to have St. Patrick's Day in March, to ease the lull between the Love is in the Air and Noblegarden events? Make it some sort of Goblin celebration (neutral Goblins, not Horde). The real-world counterpart's largely a secular holiday these days, so all we need is some green and drinking. Perhaps a celebration of some Goblin businessman finding enough money to start the Steamwheedle Cartel?. Heck, maybe even make it so we can actually visit a small portion of the Undermine until Blizz wants to fully flesh it out; make it a holiday dungeon where we save Undermine from something Deathwing woke up.
Or maybe something new altogether ... August is kind of a dead month, and since summers are slow anyway, why not spice things up? Perhaps an Azerothian Scholars holiday honoring prominent members of the WoW community, from addon creators and theorycrafters to people who try to help make the official WoW forums useful. Other games do bonus XP weekends, so WoW could have something like that, where honor, justice points, loot drops and so on could be increased for a few days and load screens have the names of players who've stood out in the community.
What kind of holiday would you like to see added to WoW? Explorer's Day? Teacher Appreciation Day? Tigule and Foror Ice Cream Day?

Be Kind To Gnomes Day. Give it a boatload of achievements, so that people are forced to be nice to the most downtrodden of all the races.

Followed by Beat the Crap out of Gnomes day so people don't give themselves ulcers.
MattKrotzer Sep 28th 2011 8:09AM
Ulcers was my goal, really.

I want a holiday during which you can level up fishing faster, the way the Thanksgiving holiday can do such amazing things for an alts cooking level. August would be a fine time for a fishing holiday!
Dannilion Sep 28th 2011 8:17AM
Ooh, that would be awesome :D

How about a water festival? Fishing could be a major part of it, and it could also include boat races, diving for treasure, beach parties, new recipes (to go along with all the fish), and more. I would also hope that a water mount would be offered as one of the holiday goodies, maybe in conjunction with a holiday boss (perhaps some sort of monster that was scaring away all the fish?).

Ooh, the water festival idea is awesome! August would be perfect for it, given how fishing is a summer thing.

I LOVE the fishing/water holiday idea.
How 'bout we also include recipes/designs for:
beach hats (tailoring)
sunscreen (alchemy)
sunglasses (jewelcrafting/engineering)
beachballs (leatherworking)
Would be a great addition to generate some activity in late summer.

Re: St Patricks Day: so all we need is some green and drinking.
I'm an Irishman and I resemble that remark!!

brilliant idea, only problem will be:
i will probably never see it in wow, since i am drinking and being green in an irish pub somewhere on earth

I can't take credit for this idea but somewhere on another breakfast topic or queue a poster mentioned a fishing holiday. I thought this would be awesome. Sending people all over to get fish from all corners of the world. Go into a dungeon and fish up a boss to kill. We could have it in March. For August maybe a corn festival or some kind of summer faire. Yeah I know we already have midsummer. Maybe an ice cream festival?
ravyncat Sep 28th 2011 10:28AM
A corn festival.
Would the holiday boss of that be He Who Walks Between the Rows? o.o
The questgiver would be Malachai. *nods* In fact all the holiday NPC's would be the Orphans from Children's Week. We will finally get to see what they are up to the rest of the year! Or they could be the Goldshire Kids. They would fit well with this too.

You just creeped me out! But I do like the idea. So many good ideas here. Hope someone from Blizz checks them out. Btw, creeeepy movie :p
ravyncat Sep 28th 2011 12:02PM
I would be scared if they made that a real holiday. XD
But it could be fun near Halloween. They could go all out and be silly with random spawned elites wearing masks and chainsaws that would terrorize the populance. Though I know people get irritated when too many pop culture references happen at once so maybe not.

Have the Children of Goldshire take over a town. No NPCs at all, just kid models wandering around.
Angus Sep 28th 2011 8:12AM
My birthday.
Everyone could have steak!
Deathknighty Sep 28th 2011 9:35AM
Damn it, that was what I was gonna say!
But my birthday. Not yours.
Because I'm special and everyone ought to celebrate my birthday.
Noyou Sep 28th 2011 10:23AM
I think you missed the point. his name is Angus- he wants us to have steak...
Amaxe Sep 28th 2011 10:35AM
If we want steak, let's all have a National Tauren Day...
...what?
Deathknighty Sep 28th 2011 11:08AM
What, are we suggesting we restrict eating steak to a single day?
Screw that!
