Foo Fighters to rock the house at BlizzCon 2011
You can get access to the concert by purchasing the BlizzCon Virtual Ticket or by attending BlizzCon. Get to the concert hall early if you want a good seat, though. It packs up pretty fast.
FOO FIGHTERS TO ROCK THE HOUSE AT BLIZZCON® 2011
The white limo stops here -- multi-platinum rockers to melt faces of sold-out crowd during closing ceremony of Blizzard Entertainment's epic gaming festival
BlizzCon Virtual Ticket will feature live coverage of event, including Foo Fighters performance, via Internet worldwide and DIRECTV® in the US.
IRVINE, Calif. -- September 28, 2011 -- Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. today announced that Foo Fighters will headline the closing concert of this year's sold-out BlizzCon®, taking place October 21-22 at the Anaheim Convention Center. While tickets to the convention are currently sold out, viewers can watch at home by ordering a BlizzCon Virtual Ticket, offering comprehensive live coverage of the event (including Foo Fighters' performance) globally over the Internet and also on DIRECTV® in the United States.
Over the course of their 16-year career, the Foo Fighters have sold tens of millions of records, won half a dozen Grammy awards, and raised countless voices in singalongs of iconic anthems like "Everlong," "My Hero," "Learn to Fly", "All My Life," "Best of You," and "The Pretender." Foo Fighters' BlizzCon debut marks founder Dave Grohl's triumphant return to the convention after playing drums for Tenacious D in last year's show, and comes during an international arena, stadium, and festival tour promoting their seventh album, the international #1 record Wasting Light.
Opening up the concert will be The Artist Formerly Known as Level 80 Elite Tauren Chieftain, who are returning to BlizzCon following a two-year interstellar tour through the Koprulu sector. Blizzard's in-house metal band will amp up the crowd with an earth-shaking set of both familiar and brand-new songs drawn from the Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo universes before turning the stage over to Foo Fighters for the main event.
"There's no better way to cap off two days of gaming entertainment than by blowing the roof off the convention center with an awesome rock concert," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "Everyone attending BlizzCon and watching from home can look forward to ending the show with a bang when Foo Fighters bring the house down."
"We're pretty sure that in the future, music historians will look back at BlizzCon 2011 as the unquestionable pinnacle of Foo Fighters' long and illustrious career," said Dave Grohl, Foo Fighters founder and frontman. "We look forward to living up to that prediction by bringing the Horde and Alliance together to rock the hell out of Anaheim next month."

Really?! Fantastic news! Definitely a huge bonus to my virtual ticket!
Moghar Sep 28th 2011 4:43PM
And just like that, I'm back to playing WoW.
Shinae Sep 28th 2011 12:12PM
The Foo Fighters hadn't even been formed when I was in high school. They were still Nirvana back then, and I covered my pocket folders with their lyrics.
Thanks for making me feel old, Mat.
MattKrotzer Sep 28th 2011 12:32PM
Foo Fighters and Nirvana aren't THAT distantly separated, time-wise... Kurt killed himself in 94, and Foo Fighters hit the stage in 95.
Kylenne Sep 28th 2011 1:08PM
I'll join you in the old folks corner.

Actually, the Foo Fighters and Nirvana are not the same band, they werent known as Nirvana before they became the Foo Fighters. Dave Grohl is the only member from Nirvana, and he alone created the Foo Fighters. during his time with Nirvana, he wrote about 40 songs which he eventually recorded 15 for his debut album. on that album, Dave Grohl recorded the 15 songs by himself playing every instrument and every vocal except for the guitar on X-Static. the only other member from Nirvana was Pat Smear, which was a second touring guitarist for Nirvana.
Didax Sep 28th 2011 1:39PM
Wait, what?
How old am I?
...shit.
MattKrotzer Sep 28th 2011 3:41PM
@incoming
Who said they WERE the same band?
Shinae Sep 28th 2011 3:56PM
Ok, I should have said, "Grohl was still in Nirvana back then." I thought a guitarist from Nirvana was in Foo Fighters, too. Well, Smear kinda was, but not as much as I thought.
I've always been bad at remembering band member names, unless they're lead vocals. :P
MattKrotzer Sep 28th 2011 4:06PM
Oh. I didn't even read into it that you might have actually thought that they were the same band. I just assumed it was a Dave Grohl reference.
Krist Novoselic was originally considering joining Foo Fighters, but he and Dave thought it might be weird for the rest of the band, so they decided against it.
moreau.derek Sep 28th 2011 12:13PM
Yes! So called it this year! I'm so pumped for this now!
Elmo Sep 28th 2011 12:25PM
Woot!!
*Pretends to prepare a White Limo to go there but is forced to Walk instead because the Wheels came off* I guess I should Learn to Fly.
MattKrotzer Sep 28th 2011 12:29PM
Okay, that's freaking awesome.
Dreyja Sep 28th 2011 3:37PM
Agreed! This is the best musical choice since I've been watching blizzcon on live-stream.
/cheers to REAL MUSIC!
Geet off meh lawn kids! ;-p
terraburn Sep 28th 2011 12:30PM
Dave Grohl is part of the Foo Fighters -.-
MattKrotzer Sep 28th 2011 12:34PM
I believe he was mentioned separately due to his participation last year as the drummer for Tenacious D, just to make the link a bit apparent to people.
Mathew McCurley Sep 28th 2011 12:44PM
Yeah, I specifically put Grohl's name there because there are, astonishingly, people who know Dave Grohl outside of Foo Fighters.
If you set up a drum set in the middle of a field, Dave Grohl will appear to play them.
Mortenebra Sep 28th 2011 1:04PM
"In other news today, farmers across the United States have been reporting a strange activity taking place in their fields and pastures. No, it's not crop circles or locusts. Sources are telling us that people have been setting up what appears to be a... A drum set? Yes, a drum set in the middle of these lands. And when asked for an explanation, the only intelligible word we could hear from these perpetrators was, 'Grohl.'
More on this story with further developments at 11."
Ken Sep 28th 2011 12:38PM
Yeah, Foo Fighters weren't even a twinkle in Dave's eye when I was in high school. You have no right claiming to be old, you young whipper snapper.
Mathew McCurley Sep 28th 2011 12:45PM
Old is relative. I personally feel old.
Next year Firefly will be a decade old.
