Earlier this morning, I popped on to the PTR to test out patch 4.3 and jump into the new 5-man dungeons coming with the new patch. The first dungeon in the three-part series is End Time, where the players are escorted into the future by Nozdormu to do battle with echoes of the past and to confront Murozond, the leader of the Infinite Dragonflight.
This was my first run-through of the dungeon, and you can watch me as I learn the new fights and explore the new instance. It's a fun learning experience full of mistakes, Dungeon Journal reading, and unmitigated excitement. Brace yourselves for what could be some of most exciting updates to the game recently with patch 4.3. Review the official patch notes, and then dig into what's ahead: new item storage options, cross-realm raiding, cosmetic armor skinning and your chance to battle the mighty Deathwing -- from astride his back!
Unfortunately, at the same time, a lot of people won't get this as their experience: "It's a fun learning experience full of mistakes, dungeon journal reading, and unmitigated excitement."
They'll get "Why didn't you watch the YouTube video and/or read up on the fights?" when they join a group. It's not often that one gets to learn about a fight while doing it in this game if you're in a pickup group. You're expected to know all about it and execute it perfectly the first time if you're not among friends. It's a shame really.
Autumn, I agree wholeheartedly. First-hand experience has always been my preferred way to learn because it just drives to home that it's something new and fresh that I'm doing, something I've never seen before. But I got chewed out for the first time ever in a Zul'Gurub dungeon for not knowing the Jin'do fight beforehand some time ago. Seems like people are getting more demanding all the time in this game.
This is actually the first time I have ever watched a video of a dungeon prior to actually doing it because now I feel like it's expected of me. I guess I don't mind too much though, that was a fun watch.
I kinda agree with you both. I love the discovering and learning by trial and error when I'm with my guild mates. In PuGs, however, I will look up the tactics beforehand because I know that, outside of the first few hours after the dungeon has gone live, there will be people who've already done it, and it gets old very very quickly having to explain complicated tactics or wiping on the same mistakes over and over again when one has already gone through that "learning experience".
I did a few rounds through End Time, when it didn't bug out; and perhaps that will change in due time, it is the PTR after all, but some of the fights were really cool but just didn't feel epic/hard enough to match the content/mood.
Ever thought that maybe WoW is as epic as ever and you are just more jaded?
Considering that we are talking about a 5man set in a post-apocalyptic future where Deathwing has destoryed the world, shattered the faction leaders and then died - leaving his rotting carcass impaled on the spires of Wyrmrest temple. And we are trying to convince the Aspect of Time to intervene and allow us to travel back in time to one of the most significant historical events in Azeroth to prevent this future from coming to pass while confronting what is most likely his own corrupted future self....I think Blizzard is doing okay for epic.
Anyone else think Mat sounds exactly like Darren Brass from the show Miami Ink? And Rossi sounds exactly like Edward Burns, from such movies as Saving Private Ryan... Every time I hear their voices I think of those two guys.
I have so many issues with this dungeon lore-wise, it's ridiculous. But having run at least 2 of the 4 bosses myself and Murozond, I can agree it's pretty awesome, especially the hour glass mechanic on Murozond (though I think it should be nerfed, having 5 resets was a bit too convenient).
They just need to be buffed, all the bosses seemed horribly undertuned hell there's one trash mob that's harder than anything else in there 3 shot a tank that had 265k hp lol

I'm so glad there are people who do this first and write strategy guides so my runs aren't torturous acts of banging my head against a wall.

Now if we could just get everyone else to read them.

Everything has its time and place, imho :-)

This is like a WoW Insider Show live in WoW. I'd love to see more of these in the future.
PS: Just love your voice/intonation/way of speaking.

Sylvanas had the coolest fight though IMO. :D

blizz has lost that epic feeling. Once things felt epic as they were epic. Cata has had little that has felt epic.

Thanks for the video, Mat. Good job. Looking forward to the others. You ought to do a video like this for the raids too.

Ugh! It kills me that you are not looting!!! I know it is PTR, but still! :)

Love it!! Can't wait to run this.

Did anyone else notice Murozond is an anagram of Nozdormu?
Natsumi Sep 28th 2011 11:07PM
Yeah, when he was first announced.
Killik Sep 29th 2011 10:32AM
It's also an anagram of Dun Mr Zoo. Did you notice that?
sundog-moondog Sep 28th 2011 11:11PM
Good to know I discovered what everyone already knew. /facepalm

The instance is cool. But I'm gonna say it again. Aspect of Time killed by 5 adventurers? Really?
Andrew Sep 28th 2011 11:58PM
The Aspect of Time meets his canon death in a timeline *we erase anyway*. WTF?
