In the Cata beta there was a Darkmoon Faire category within the World Events section of the achievements pane. I'd guess they were going to include this as part of Cata but decided to hold it back in order to bulk out a content patch, or perhaps as a mini-patch in line with their stated (but seemingly abandoned) wish to release smaller - but quicker - patches.
