The Queue: Sealab 2021 Insider

I'm not exactly sure who asked that we start Sealab 2021 Insider in Tuesday's Queue. But here we are. Let's go.
Siaperas asked:
What is your most annoying experience with a player randomly going afk during an encounter, and what was that player's excuse?
There was a tank who enjoyed drugs, and he was our tank assigned to Illidan. He ended up AFKing through the last 30% of the fight in order to go and get enlightened (this was possible because our healers were amazing). I found out he AFKed after we had killled him and offered him the Bulwark of Azinoth. Instead of giving it to him, we DEed it in front of him and gkicked his butt (all of us other tanks had it). His rant was amazing; I wish I had recorded it. I got an email from him 10 hours or so after he was kicked; he told me that he was going to ... sully my shoes ... at BlizzCon.
He remains on my ignore list on one of my toons to this very day. I never did see him IRL.
loop_not_defined asked:
Will we be seeing a guide to "Things you cannot transmogrify" now that we can test it?
It's going to be part of our overall coverage to list or explain things like that as we see them. We don't have such an exact list right now, however.
Wybenga42 asked:
With 4.3 now on PTR, how long do you think it will take for us non-PTR players to start seeing information on the armor sets offered by the Darkmoon Faire for transmogrification?
Blizzard has said it's still got work to do on the Darkmoon Faire, and I suspect that we'll be seeing more of that in the next few weeks. I doubt 4.3 will be on the PTR for more than two months, so expect such things relatively soon.
Arkonn asked:
Any chance of Blizz ever allowing us to use reputation standards in Firelands? MOAR REP NAO!
I don't see Blizzard changing any of the rep gain mechanics in this expansion. Yes, they can be tedious, but they're a helluva lot better mechanics overall than they were in classic or The Burning Crusade. Complain not -- the "old days" were worse.
Foster asked:
How do I join the 4.3 ptr? I had 4.2 downloaded but when I open it I cant select a realm to go onto. Do I need to un install then re install?
Yes, it does sound like you'll need to uninstall and then reinstall the PTR client. Download the latest PTR client from your Battle.net account page.

That gkick story is legendary. That is beyond awesome. Afkers beware! Go afk and we will d/e the piece of gear you covet before your very eyes!

It's probably not a good idea to be starting on such a list when it could change before going live, now that I think about it.
Having said that, I confirmed that (currently) Direbrew's Shanker and Cookie's Tenderizer work with transmogrification.

If a rolling pin is not considered an "absurdity" then what is? I suspect they have not started the "blacklist" yet.
ravyncat Sep 29th 2011 11:15AM
I would love to be an angry chef who dual wields rolling pins. XD
Too bad there isn't any plate that would go well with that theme. I still might do it for Halloween.
Tirrimas Sep 29th 2011 1:06PM
I was in a normal Lost City last night with a shammy dual-wielding Tremendous Tankards. It was freaking awesome.
ravyncat Sep 29th 2011 2:01PM
My shammy will dual wield those once she gets to 85. I saved them special just for that purpose.
Alas she must finish trudging through Northrend first.
detailbear Sep 29th 2011 10:18PM
@ravyncat: If you can find a ladle mace, you can be the Swedish Chef!
“Yorn desh born, der ritt de gitt der gue,
Orn desh, dee born desh, de umn. Bork! Bork! Bork!”
Amaxe Sep 30th 2011 12:45AM
Yeah my shaman dual wields with landslides on them.
It's definitely bumped up the damage.

Also, got details on the Winter Veil companions:
-Tiny Snowman: Outside of Winter Veil, it will appear for a few seconds before collapsing. /waving at it didn't work while it was up (normally it waves back).
-Winter Reindeer: Outside of Winter Veil, it functions like a normal companion, just without the Winter Veil garb.
-Father Winter's Helper/Winter's Little Helper: Outside of Winter Veil, they'll show up, complain, and then disappear. The complaints are fairly amusing. Some examples:

Shinae Sep 29th 2011 11:20AM
Oh cool! That is much better than not being able to summon them at all when it's not Winters Veil.
Nathanyel Sep 29th 2011 11:29AM
Shinae: Snowballs can be stockpiled on alts, for year-round use.
(cutaia) Sep 29th 2011 11:39AM
Nath,
He was referring to the datamined changes -- and the assumption people were making that they meant these companions would no longer be able to be summoned outside of Winter's Veil, snowball or no.
Jamie Sep 29th 2011 11:53AM
Don't forget your friendly local engineer! We got an answer for everything! (just don't expect it to always work).

Shinae Sep 29th 2011 11:54AM
What (cutaia) said.
This article said, "Winter's Veil pets are only able to be summoned during the Winter's Veil event." http://wow.joystiq.com/2011/09/27/patch-4-3-ptr-vanity-pets/
I guess I can free up some bankspace by getting rid of all those snowballs I have laying around.
Thanks for the clarifcation, Loop!

Actually, releasing SW:ToR 5 days before a major US holiday is kind of a shitty thing to do to their employees. Sure it's great to have any job in this economy but that seems like an unnecessary strain on their workforce. Over stressing them no doubt will have an effect on the launch of their product. 4.3 is a pretty big patch. I don't think 8 weeks would be that unreasonable. However I do hope it is ready sooner. Rather than putting it out in 6 weeks to get it in before Thanksgiving, the first week in December seems more realistic. As far as Blizzard thinking SW:ToR is a threat or not: The minute you think your competitor is not worthy enough to beat you is the minute you set yourself up for failure. They have to prepare for every new MMO that comes out. If for nothing else to make sure they are at the top of their game. 7 years into the game, Blizzard is a wise and grizzled veteran. I say bring it on.

BIZARRO BIZARRO I LOVE YOU BIZARRO I love Sealab 2021 to an unhealthy degree.
Q4daQ:
Do you think Blizzard will coincide the launch date of 4.3 with SWTOR's release on 12/20? Blizzard has a long history of doing so; patches usually arrive about 1 month after a competitor's release and 4.3 looks to be one of the biggest (if not the biggest) patches in WoW. Seems like a smart plan to match it up against WoW's biggest threat so far.
