MMO Roundup: Titan, why you gotta hurt me like this?

Blizzard's not talking about its unannounced MMO at BlizzCon this year Remember that one time when Blizzard accidentally leaked some info stating that it's working on a new MMO (codenamed Titan), and we all got excited? And then BlizzCon happened, and we all thought the studio would tell us more, but it didn't? And then remember when that happened the next year, too? Well, it's happening again this year. |

BioWare founders: We make the decisions, not EA BioWare has a message for critical fans who blame the company's perceived inadequacies on its corporate overlords at Electronic Arts. "I always chuckle because we are EA, we're BioWare -- we're both, and we still have huge autonomy in terms of what we do," cofounder Greg Zeschuk recently told Eurogamer. |

Reading the comments on the titan link reminded me why I don't go to Massively. Everybody there but the occasional straggler seems to have the anti-WoW attitude I find so obnoxious. The guy who stated "Blizzard is taking most of the senior designers away from the game and move them over to Titan" (he later said ALL instead of most) and that "everyone knows" this got up voted to a 3 star rating.
*lurch*

Oh, but I suppose it's a little better because this comment by him got down-voted in to oblivion:
"If you dont know that Blizzard has put their Ateam on Titan and C team maintaining WOW - then go and read few posts.
Im sorry if I offended some1 when I said everyone knew. Obviously there are few ignorant ppl out there that hanv't been following whats going on."
Now THAT is a much more lurch-worthy comment.

Yeah, I've noticed the anti-WoW bias in Massively for such a long time now. And, you can always tell they're going to post something about WoW when you see an article titled "Is raiding bad for you?" or "MMOs make you a murderer in real life, studys find!" and it's always with a picture of WoW and examples given of it.
I just don't really understand the hate for WoW. If you don't like the game, that's fine. But do you really need to constantly post bad stuff about it?

It's not anti-WoW people that bother me, it's the anti-WoW people that still loyally play the game that do (also, the "martyrs" who make a huge scene over quitting the game and even sometimes never do, at least for more than a few months). It's just so obvious that they're jumping on a bandwagon for the sake of jumping on a bandwagon (like people who hate pop star X before even listening to any of their music), and they're so irritating while they do it, it just grates on my nerves.

It's an Us vs. Them mentality. They like MMOs that are not WoW, so any news about WoW minutely outshining their game will send them on the defensive, which usually involves mudslinging.
It happened with Sega vs. Nintendo.
It happened with Playstation vs. Xbox.
Heck, it happened to a lot of WoW players when Rift first launched.
It's a defensive instinct that just builds more and more. Especially when the 'outside' public begins to associate them.
"I play MMOs."
"Oh, you play that there World of Warcraft?"
*grinds teeth* "No..."

I dont really blame them.
Wow is call of duty of the MMO market. Using old engine, old gamestyles and yet totally crushes the competition and still is the most massive MMO to date.
I dont mean by this that "roar wow is bad" but for people who generally play other MMO's they dont really like WoW because its "popular" or sometimes they just dont understand why we still play "7 year old game when theres so many new ones with updated mechanics". People just hate "the big seller" usually, its how it is. Its nothing to do with being bias either..wow is pretty much THE mmo. When you say MMO everyone thinks of WoW. When news talk about MMO's its WoW. Its massive and has so much media coverage for reason.

Ice has it right... There are a lot of gamers out there who will dislike something simply because it's popular.

Remember that one time Bobby Boucher showed up at half time and the Mud Dogs won the Bourbon Bowl?
Sorry I couldn't resist. ;)

The EA/Bioware thing sounds a lot like the Activision/Blizzard thing. I wonder if SW:TOR players will be going "OMG FAIL, GG EAware"?
RogueJedi86 Oct 5th 2011 1:07AM
Unlikely since EA has owned BioWare for 3 or 4 years, long before TOR's launch. This isn't a post-launch merger like the Activision-Blizzard thing. The Doctors of BioWare were just reassuring us after some rumoring had gone around that EA was pushing a little on BioWare to influence TOR. And as the Doctors said, BioWare is being left alone to do their own thing on TOR.
