Patch 4.3: Void Storage prices revealed

- 100g to unlock Void Storage
- 25g to deposit an item
- Free for withdrawals
Read Lylirra's full explanation of the Void Storage pricing on the official forums or behind the cut below.
I just recently got back from a meeting with Ghostcrawler and have an update to share regarding the prices for Void Storage. Instead of charging 1000g to unlock a Void Storage vault and 100g to deposit and withdraw items, we're looking at only requiring the following amounts for each transaction:
Unlock - 100g
Deposit - 25g
Withdrawal - Free
We agree with the suggestions we've seen that placing a higher fee on withdrawals would create a stronger deterrent for using Void Storage as a secondary bank. That said, we don't want players to find themselves in a situation where they are unable to retrieve an item simply because they don't have the gold. This is why we're leaning towards a more expensive deposit (to differentiate Void Storage from a normal bank) and allowing all withdrawals to be free.
Please keep in mind that these prices may not hit the PTR and are, of course, subject to change before the release of 4.3.

Does that mean it's 25g every single time you deposit the item or just the first time?

I still don't see the purpose of void storage so long as you have free bank space :S And really, what good things do you have in your bank that you couldn't toss for epic looking gear?
Rainee Sue Oct 5th 2011 9:03PM
Several expansions' worth of epic-looking gear takes up more room than you'd think. I still have full tiers 1, 4, 8, 10 and 11 sitting in my bank, and I'll probably want to save my 12. Plus a lot of funny holiday outfits and such.
Basically I'm going to use Void Storage for out-of-date gear and vanity items, and use my bank for things like crafting and enchanting materials and consumables that I use on a super regular basis.

i have about 120 pieces of old gear in my bank that I don't wear anymore. Void storage is for gear packrats like me.

"so long as you have free bank space"
Well, that's the real trick, isn't it?
Vitos Oct 5th 2011 9:36PM
@Rainee, now I want to figure out what class you are, based on what sets you kept.
Not a DK because T1.
Not a Pally, because no T2.
Not a priest because T11.
Thinking time!

I am so tired of people bitching about optional content. If you don't like it, don't use it. Move along. Thanks.

Nearly every slot in my bank is currently occupied with epic-looking gear. The other handful of slots are occupied by trinkets and items from the TCG, a few quest items I couldn't bear to throw away (Items from quests that have been removed, like the books you got while completing the Scepter of the Shifting Sands), and a stack of Really Sticky Glue, because you can't go wrong with having a stack of Really Sticky Glue handy.
Between multiple tier sets, gear sets, and randomly cool pieces of gear (Like the Cursed Vision of Sargeras), despite having Portable Holes in every slot available, my bank is crammed full, has been crammed full for years, and is bursting at the seams. One of the things I hated the most about the full bank was having to decide which item to toss just so I could put a new item in the bank. Everything I disposed of over the years is still easily re-farmable.
While you may have free bank space, there are plenty of players that don't. Should we be squirreling old gear? Eh, probably not - but it's like having a nice little time capsule of everything we've done so far in game. Plus it's pretty. Void Storage is a blessing.

Glad to know someone else kept their stack of Really Sticky Glue. ;)

Yeah, I never got why people are so geeked about this and the transmog thing, either. But, whatever. I suppose I may have decided to use the void bank . Maybe. But, now that I see it costs, I'm pretty sure I won't.
Oh. And please understand the difference between me expressing an opinion about the void bank... and "bitching" about it, kay?
Hollow Leviathan Oct 5th 2011 9:00PM
The prices for void storage didn't matter for whether I would use it nearly as much as whether I can transmogrify items from void storage, or if I had to pull them out for each time I want to 'mog something. If I have to pull it out, then there's no real point to void storage for me.
Andrew Oct 5th 2011 9:36PM
That's why this is a decent gold sink. The prices are not so large that they could only be afforded by the super-rich, but they will take a fair chunk out of the economy. Also, there are only 12 slots capable of transmogging, so besides the costs of the actual transmogrification, the void storage costs for your average raider start at approximately 300g every patch and only increase depending on how many times you upgrade your gear and/or change your mind about your appearance. 300g spread over several months of play time is negligible.
Foxfyr Oct 6th 2011 2:33AM
Agreed Hollow, I can't for the life of me figure out why the void "wardrobe closet" can't be used to dress up the look of your present gear.
I mean, placing it in void storage already strips it of it's gems and enchants. These items clearly have no other use than their cosmetic use - so why aren't the two systems linked?
Haro Oct 6th 2011 6:08AM
I understood that to transmog an item you only need to carry the item whose appearance will change... was i mistaken?
I was under the impression that the item whose looks you want to place on some other one, you only needed to own it, not mattering where it was stored.
Foxfyr Oct 6th 2011 8:18AM
As it stands right now, you must have the item you want to change equipped and the item you want it to look like in your bags. Not in your bank, and not in Void Storage. I would have been fine with the original prices if I could dump all my old tier sets in it and never take them out. But now, I'm just not sure what I'll use it for.
babywhiz Oct 6th 2011 8:21AM
@Haro - Yea, I'm confused too. I could have sworn that I was able to mog my items, then stick it back in Void Storage, but that was a week ago that I was on the PTR when I did that. They changed it?
Didax Oct 6th 2011 10:59AM
Transmogrification is a lot more simplisitic than some of you are trying to make it:
1: You must be wearing the piece of gear that is to be changed.
2: The item that you want that piece of gear to look like MUST BE IN ONE OF YOUR BAGS at the time of transmogrification. It currently cannot be in your bank, or in void storage.
3: After the item is transmogrified, it does not matter what you do with the other piece of gear. You can put it in your bank, in void storage, or even destroy it, and the piece of gear you are wearing will still keep the visual appearance.
Hollow Leviathan Oct 6th 2011 7:28PM
@Didax
Right, but...you need to pull the visual appearance gear out of Void Storage every time you get a stat gear upgrade, to re-transmog that slot. Meaning there's no point to storing Transmog gear in Void Storage unless you love to get hammered by charges. I guess what Void Storage is good for is finally convincing me to destroy things like my Holy Mightstone and Light of Elune instead of paying 25g to clear up that space.
