Today in WoW: Steve Jobs has died

While the Mac won't be used for high-end gaming (although certainly many of us play WoW on them), we cannot ignore the impact that Steve Jobs has had on the tech industry as a whole. His innovations have been integral in bringing together the world, and every time you go to pick up your iPhone and access the Auction House, you have Jobs to thanks. Steve Jobs passed away today at the age of 56. He is survived by his wife Laurene and his four children.
WoW news for the day:
Blue posts
I just recently got back from a meeting with Ghostcrawler and have an update to share regarding the prices for Void Storage. Instead of charging 1000g to unlock a Void Storage vault and 100g to deposit and withdraw items, we're looking at only requiring the following amounts for each transaction:
Unlock - 100g
Deposit - 25g
Withdrawal - Free
We agree with the suggestions we've seen that placing a higher fee on withdrawals would create a stronger deterrent for using Void Storage as a secondary bank. That said, we don't want players to find themselves in a situation where they are unable to retrieve an item simply because they don't have the gold. This is why we're leaning towards a more expensive deposit (to differentiate Void Storage from a normal bank) and allowing all withdrawals to be free.
Please keep in mind that these prices may not hit the PTR and are, of course, subject to change before the release of 4.3

It's a sad day for the world of technology. :(
Sleutel Oct 5th 2011 10:03PM
Technology, hell--personally, I'm wondering if he stepped away from Apple soon enough. I just hope that he was still enjoying his work instead of pushing himself to be active to keep the stockholders happy. Can't imagine anything worse than missing out on time he'd rather have been spending with his family.
Sleutel Oct 5th 2011 10:30PM
Also, is anyone else shocked to look at that photo and compare it with how he's looked over the past few years? It's saddening to think how long it's been since he was anything but painfully emaciated.

The World has lost a bright light.

Hmmm sad indeed. But do any of you know that in china they had to install nets around the Apple facility because workers were committing suicide off the roof on lunch? They made iphones/ipads for 18 hours a day for just enough money to eat. Not saying he deserved to die because all of life is precious, but he was just another globalist. Hardly a special "light"
MikeLive Oct 6th 2011 4:26AM
@Thedave Foxconn is an independent company, contracted by Apple (but also pretty much every major manufacturer, including Sony, Dell, and others), that's facing a large problem in much of the Chinese manufacturing industry, worker suicide.
The attribution of these events to Apple (who has taken the initiative above other contracted companies to step in and help) is just linkbait from various "news" organizations and blogs more interested in hits than actually helping prevent these tragedies.
Thedave Oct 6th 2011 7:01AM
Well at the very least mikelive, thank you for confirming what i said. I did not intend to mislead people into thinking Apple was the only guilty party here. The the death had been a CEO at anyone of those companies then my comment would have been about them. Oh and what was that about the "initiative" Apple took to help? All they did was install nets around the building, re-train the onsite counseler, and give the workers 0.7% profit on ipad sales. Thats a 20% wage increase. Wow a whole $26 a month! A main driver for worker suicide is that their families get what equivilates to 10 yrs wages. But hey go ahead and defend Apple

@thedave how about you blame China since they control the economy instead of blaming a company that employs thousands and makes products that people like. RIP Steve Jobs

R.I.P Steve Jobs
Thank You for the great technological advances you made to the world. Have a nice rest. You have earned it.

May he sync in peace!
(now where is my iHeaven)

I thought he'd have stuck around at least long enough to see his biography released, since moving the date up meant he was sicker than people expected.
I guess the true measure of his worth will show in the years to come.
Animaneth Oct 6th 2011 9:41AM
"I guess the true measure of his worth will show in the years to come."
I think he does not have "a worth" attached to him, minds as bright and the vision he had, are have no price. I don't like Apple products, I don't like close products. However I think that humanity, and the tech industry lost one of the most important members of it, one of the fundamental pillars to what it is today.
Without Jobs, iPhone wouldn't exist, Android either, Windows Phone 7 maybe but it would be closer to Windows Mobile for example.

This is depressing.
Also I play on a mac.
Noyou Oct 5th 2011 9:48PM
It is depressing. It also sucks that he had to suffer probably a great deal in the years leading up to this. I don't know the exact time but I heard it was 8 years. I don't think I would have it in me to fight for 8 months. He brought a lot to us in terms of technology. I am sure to his family and friends he brought a lot more. He has my utmost respect as a man and as a pioneer. Hopefully he is at peace. /salute.
ravyncat Oct 5th 2011 9:48PM
So do I. I am a dedicated Mac everything person.
/salute to a great man
Skarn Oct 5th 2011 10:20PM
I play on Windows. This is still depressing.
Farewell, Steve. You shall be missed.
Kylenne Oct 6th 2011 12:45AM
I play on a Mac. My first computer was an Apple IIgs, my first Mac was an SE. I've owned no other kind of computer but those with the Apple logo. I've been one of the faithful for a very, very long time, long before Apple was best known for iGadgets.
I feel like part of my childhood just died and I can't get it back. Jobs, along with Woz, was one of my heroes in life. This guy was a giant and he made the world a better place. I don't even know what else to say.
Vaeku Oct 6th 2011 5:16AM
Even though I don't play on a Mac, my father's first computer was an Apple and I first learned my ABC's on an Apple IIe. I also spent a lot of time with Macs in school (journalism classes in middle and high school). So I feel much the same as you Kylenne, in that it feels like a part of my childhood has died.
Xantenise Oct 5th 2011 9:41PM
God, this has made me depressed, and usually I'm such an unemotional prick to begin with. RIP.
Firestyle Oct 5th 2011 9:42PM
He was a good man.
