I think heirlooms are going to be dead soon.Hear me out - These were a great perk idea for a while. A LOT of ppl were max level in Wrath, bored, but didnt want to level ANOTHER toon - so a quick and easy boost (and a sink for all those emblems/badges) made a lot of sense. But look at things now - a) We all have multiple toons, and most every type/slot of heirloom itemb) Leveling has never been easier (even WITHOUT heirlooms) thanks to the cata zone revamps and LFDNow we roll toons, mail 'em their heirlooms, and never look at/equip a damn piece of loot that drops until level 80 or so. It's always vendor or disenchant. Even the relevant Blue loot that drops from LFD goodie bags is vendor trash.Seems like that's not how the game should be.

I would rather they do this personally. Low level God Mode gets old fast. The guild perks and revamps are enoughfor levelling. Currently levelling a mage without anything ( heirlooms or guild) and its fun to work through the zones properly. To each their own of course.

Great point. I'm about as casual-friendly a player as I know (I'm all for things being as easy as possible so the game isn't frustrating for newbies or less skilled players), but even I have to recognize that leveling in wow is often times simply too easy. I'd say it's just about maybe the right amount of easy without heirlooms, but with heirlooms, that god mode thing does get old pretty fast imo.

The problem with heirlooms is that they can't be sent to characters on other realms, and while many like to level alts in the same sever, others ( like me) get tired of leveling by playing less than an hour on a level 80 toon. It becomes worse when they want to level in another server without any heirlooms. One of my alts is sitting at 70 just waiting on the 33% decreased leveling time on 4.3. If i could make it 20% (that's as fast as it could with heirlooms get the last time I leveled a toon) faster, that alt would have an even better survivability chance. On a side note, giving them to all game accounts would not be a good thing since new players would get a rather weird leveling pace with new and older content.

What Blizzard could do to address these concerns with heirlooms making leveling too fast and too easy is implement a way for people who don't want to use heirlooms to opt out. I can think of at least two ways this could be done with current technology. First, they could make spending one's hard-earned emblems and gold on heirlooms a choice, rather than forcing people to do it against their will. Second, they could let people equip other gear besides heirlooms while leveling.Actually, it seems Blizzard has beaten me to the punch and done both of those things already! But neither of those address the problem, do they? Because, since they are indeed completely optional, complaints that heirlooms make the game too easy are really complaints that heirlooms make the game too easy... for other people. It might be worth thinking twice before judging another person based on how much recreation time they have available for a game like WoW, and how they choose to spend it. Leveling is, more than ever, a solo pursuit (and that is by design) so maybe it doesn't need to matter to one person how or at what pace another person chooses to go about it.

For me, heirlooms are a great tool to level alts. XP bonus aside, it allows me to level up and not worry about 4-6+ pieces of gear. I also know that If I skip around I don't have to worry about what other gear I have either because the heirloom stuff is good enough. It helps in gearing for an offspec too because instead of taking inferior items for your main spec you can take the items for your 2nd spec.

I'm not complaining thta heirlooms are making the game too easy - heck, that's kinda what they were designed to do. And no one is forcing us to use them - although the argument could be made that having access to heirlooms and NOT using them is deliberately nerfing your progress. But if you/I want to play/level slower, experience quests, etc., then that option is available. My main point is that fully-equipping a toon with heirlooms completely eliminates a big part of the game - gearing. I'm not certain how transmog will affect this, but i get boooored looking at my lvl 40 warrior, who hasnt changed her clothes since level 2.t seems like Blizzard could accomplish the same thing (quick leveling) by adding a "character enchant" or even selling you a level 70 toon, like the way that DKs work (everyone's favorite alt class). And before you chime in with "you need to play the lower levels to learn your class...", remember that a great deal of your major spells and abilities don't even show up until later levels (Fan of Knives - at 70??? Misdirection at 76???)

Scott tell me, what is exactly your problem then? You are whining for everything, if you don't like seeing the same gear on YOUR characters all the way to 80 don't use them simple as that.If you don't like to group with people that have heirloom then you don't, so don't use LFD either because that's another tool to make the game easier, and don't youd are using the LFR in 4.3 because that will make everything easier.seriously with this kind of people, they whine if it is too easy, if it istoo hard, if they don't have what other have, geez.

well, as far as looking at gear that drops goes, in 4.3 you can just mog your heirlooms to whatever gear your alt can wear (quest rewards, newb cloths that you first start in, old 60 raids, whatever as long as can wear it and is right armor type)

@Greener GrassYour statement does not correspond to reality, giving players more choices doesn't mean you're improving anyone's gaming experience. The level pace is very important for new players as most of them don't even know how things work at max level, so the game is about leveling to them. If you just make their game weird and sketchy (like moving on before finishing the storyline of a zone), there will be no real enjoyment.ICC shows us that having more options doesn't mean a better experience for everyone, I bet the game would have been more interesting to some (not everyone) without the buff, yet, no one would ever do it, simply because there was no reward or new sensation other than frustration because of not being able to do something you have do before. If it was optinal to have bad gear while raiding end game content and blizzard just gave everyone the best gear, the game wouldn't be tuned correctly (even though you could always choose to wear bad gear) and would be a lot less fun, same thing happens with new players and their leveling experience.

The low-level god mode isn't because of heirlooms, these days. I have 1 heirloom on my rogue (the cloak) and killing stuff from level 10-40 has been Stealth->Ambush->Mutilate->Loot->Repeat. My hunter was even easier (this was pre-AiS buff). I could kill a mob every six seconds with ES->AS (levelling as SV). My mage, shaman, warrior, druid, and DK have pretty much the same stories. The only exceptions are my spriest and pally.
