Not sure if a bunch of tornadoes = a hurricane, but A+ for skill and effort!!
Now I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth but, wouldn't it be cool if it actually looked like an actual hurricane? Although personally, I don't know how hard it would be to make a spiral swirl of clouds with a hole in the middle aesthetically pleasing!

...And half my comment is gone from the first paragraph...
Not sure if a bunch of tornadoes = a hurricane, but A+ for skill and effort!! It's very unique and I would play a boomkin just for this animation alone.
themightysven Oct 8th 2011 8:10PM
of course a typhoon is not a giant wave either...
MrJackSauce Oct 8th 2011 8:26PM
@themightysven Yes. I believe that's what we call a Tsunami.

Note the title picture with the swirl of clouds with hole in middle, as indicated in my above post.
For good measure:

Also note the title picture with the swirl of clouds with hole in middle, as indicated in my above post.

Tornadoes and Hurricanes are not the same thing. I don't understand why Blizz made this change. A hurricane is one giant storm, not a bunch of little cyclones. Tornadoes are much smaller by comparison, like the new animation. Sure, the animation is nice, but i much prefer one big storm over a bunch of little ones. Without the giant storm cloud above it it just looks weak. If anything, they should have just updated the storm cloud to look more like a real (massive, rotating) hurricane cloud.
MrJackSauce Oct 8th 2011 9:28PM
@thundrcrackr I agree. Then again this is Blizzard and I just realized that themightysven was referencing the spell Typhoon and not the natural phenomenon. So there's another example of someone just kinda going with a storm/water theme and not exactly going true to nature.
Still: The More You Know eh? :P

As a native Floridian I would like to point out that tornadoes are a common occurrance during hurricanes, so this actually DOES make sense. :p
Eros Oct 8th 2011 10:12PM
At least the damage animation make more sense. As someone who has been through many hurricanes, lightning is not much of a concern compared to the wind, rain and storm surge.
Lolz Oct 8th 2011 11:18PM
@Chance Thats untrue, the secondary effects depend on where you live, in Mexico they just cause some isolated storms and rainy climate on other parts of the country.
Pyromelter Oct 8th 2011 11:21PM
I'm with thundrcrackr. A hurricane when you look at it is a massive storm-cloud system. I think tornadoes are fine, but removing the cloud formation is a huge mistake. Overall I think the new animation as is looks terrible comparied to the old one. If they put the cloud formation back in, then they might have something cooking, but without the clouds it just looks pretty stupid.
Chance Oct 8th 2011 11:56PM
@Lolz
That must be after the Hurricane has already broken up and worn itself out going over the mountains to reach Mexico cause no hurricane is just isolated storms. Its one giant massive storm. Unless you're talking about just getting hit by the feter bands (little bits of storms along the outer rim). If you get hit full on by a hurricane the whole area in that storm is getting hit by rain and the winds, its the winds and the churning of the storm that creates the tornadoes and if you ain't getting those 70+ MPH winds its not a hurricane, its a tropical storm or less.
Lolz Oct 9th 2011 2:19AM
@Chance
I should have clarified, I was talking about the effects on areas in which a hurricane doesn't hit directly.
Anyway, hurricanes only cause tornados when they clash with cold air, so it depends on the location.
Chance Oct 9th 2011 2:44AM
Well then this new spell effect should only work in Northrend.
Teresa Oct 8th 2011 8:08PM
You can check out a vid, or hop on the ptr and make your own hurricane. Sweet tornados, especially when several druids are channeling the spell. The lightning sounds are the same I think. But then I dont play druids.
themightysven Oct 8th 2011 8:10PM
Now it just has to be useful in AoE situations...
Bellajtok Oct 8th 2011 10:03PM
So what are everyone's suggestions for improving Hurricane? I'd like to see the mana cost and channel time reduced so I could fit it into a rotation with the Mushrooms. I'd also like to use both of them in either Eclipse state, which means they'd probably need to do Spellstorm damage and have their damage reduced accordingly, but I'd be find with that.
Lissanna Oct 8th 2011 11:08PM
Making Hurricane benefit from Lunar Eclipse's Arcane damage buff would actually be a huge help to making it useful. We don't really have any Arcane AOE spells.
Bellajtok Oct 8th 2011 11:29PM
Yeah. I feel like Hurricane isn't really designed for offense. If glyphed it slows attacks, so if it was mana-efficient and did good damage we'd be required to spam it on adds to help the tank. Making it a real damage spell just isn't possible that way. It'd work better if the glyph changed it to Spellstorm instead.
goldfish_girl99 Oct 9th 2011 5:50PM
What's the point of updating the animation of a spell no one uses anymore? Unless Blizzard intends to reduce the mana cost and increase the damage of Hurricane this change is wasted.
TonyMcS Oct 9th 2011 7:42PM
This is the equivalent of lowered door handles, dynatuned wheel covers and stage three cigarette lighters for a new release car.
Thsi spell needs to be fixed so we can use it and I was fine with the current animation - looked like a small hurricane to me, not a bunch of tornadoes.
Gone are the days when a Starfall and a Hurricane killed the room ;-)
Give me back real AoE and lose those stupid mushrooms ;-)
