I'd sort of prefer one big one with lightning around it to a bunch of small ones and lightning but it's still nicer than it used to be.
Snuzzle Oct 8th 2011 9:57PM
I agree, I also prefer the old Wrath animation... but hey, I'm glad at least some dusty old graphics are getting oerhauled now, about those player models...
Elmo Oct 9th 2011 8:28AM
I certainly prefer many of the old animations, the new ones for Wrath and Lightning bolt are meh, shadowbolt isn't that great either and this misses the large cloud overhead.
then again I want the old Windfury back!! it was a million times better than the big black cone we have today.
Drakkenfyre Oct 9th 2011 2:47PM
Imagine how Mages felt in 3.0.2. Instead of a glowing mist going over your character for Invocation, we got a blue Windfury instead. They removed a pretty unique animation, and replaced it with a blue-colored Windfury. Complaints were ignored.
Bellajtok Oct 8th 2011 8:16PM
Love it. It always annoyed me that we shared that animation with a ton of other mobs. And the tornadoes look awesome. I guess this makes up for the partial fail of wrath.
Drakkenfyre Oct 9th 2011 2:51PM
Generally-speaking, when they change a player animation, all NPC's which use that animation get changed, too.
Arrohon Oct 8th 2011 8:16PM
Too bad it isn't useful enough that a lot of boomkins will actually be able to see it...
Barey Oct 8th 2011 8:20PM
Too bad no one in his right mind actually uses Hurricane. Wouldn't it be cool if it had actual real damage and maybe wasn't so expensive?
lolikitty Oct 8th 2011 8:19PM
It's beautiful. Just thinking about it makes my jaw drop, and by jaw I mean ips.
HappyTreeDance Oct 8th 2011 8:55PM
Looks a hell of a lot better than the new wrath animation.
Sandstone Oct 8th 2011 9:47PM
Like so many others have posted - might be cool if someone actually used the spell. Weak dps with a huge mana drain. I'd rather see it be able to do a multi-mob cyclone crowd control.
MusedMoose Oct 8th 2011 11:15PM
I just misread the first part of the article's title as "naked hurricane".
...I'm going to bed. @_@

Okay, thinking about this I'm fine with there being other AoE options, but what if Druid AoE becomes situational. (their Single target is already the most situational)
Starfall (which already exists for an AoE Arcane spell) if Starfall is cast during a Lunar Eclipse party members get an x% crit bonus for the duration of the spell (because they're wishing on the stars) [pushes toward Solar Eclipse]
'Shrooms If 'Shrooms are detonated during a Solar Eclipse, they Spawn new Mushrooms within the blast radius (also lowers the CD on the detonate button) [pushes toward Lunar Eclipse]
Hurricane Deals (lots of) Physical damage (which is affected by Armour debuffs and bleed effects) [pushes towards the next eclipse regardless]
That way you have Interesting AoE Options, with more variety than "let's stay in Solar and Sunfire them down"

Tornado huh? If we use it during Altairus fight we can really mess with people and causing them to move :P
Aceman67 Oct 9th 2011 1:09AM
My current beef with the current iteration of Hurricane is the cloud it creates. You can't see through it.
I play with my camera panned back just enough and at the right angle that if I use it, I can't see what its hitting.
Whats worse, is if I'm Tanking on my DK or Pally, and a Druid uses, I can't see anything, forcing me to turn my camera instead of focusing on doing my job (keeping you're leather-clad Chicken-ass alive).
From what I've seen from the video, they removed the cloud. I applaud this.
Also, the proper name for a Hurricane is "Tropical Cyclone". So, these aren't tornadoes, they're Cyclone, you guys are arguing semantics here.
Literaltruth Oct 9th 2011 3:11AM
Just a point of correction. These are tornadoes - you can quite clearly see that they are tornadoes. The point some have been making is that these graphics aren't quite right for the spell since the spell's name doesn't match the graphic.
Cylcones are huge weather systems many miles across which, when seen from space, usually look like giant spirals of clouds. We use the words typhoon, hurricane and cyclone to refer to them depending on where in the world they are (if it happens near the Mexico / USA it's a hurricane, if it happens near Indonesia it's a typhoon, for example). While all such weather effects are Cyclones, not all cyclones are Hurricanes.
The things in the new spell effect, however, are tornadoes.
Aceman67 Oct 9th 2011 3:30AM
Point of Correction, Synonyms for Tornado: cyclone, funnel, storm, twister, typhoon, whirlwind, wind.
Second point of Correction; Basic definition of Hurricane: Violent Windstorm.
Synonyms for Hurricane: blow, cyclone, gale, line storm, monsoon, storm, tempest, tornado, tropical cyclone, tropical storm, twister, typhoon, whirlwind.
Like I said, arguing Semantics.
Literaltruth Oct 9th 2011 4:54AM
You're saying that "wind" is a synonmym for "tornado"?
Tornadoes are violent columns of air which touch both the base of a cloud and the ground simultaneously. They are sometimes called "cyclones" because the winds move in a circular motion - but that doesn't make them the same thing as a hurricane.
Hurricane is specifically a tropical cyclone (i.e. a significantly large storm system with a large area of low pressure in the centre) that happens in the North Atlantic and Northeast Pacific (in the South pacific and elsewhere it's called a Typhoon, and actually if the same system moves from one area to the other it's renamed. It must have sustained wind speeds of 74mph.
Saying that hurricanes and tornadoes are the same thing because they can both sometimes be called "cyclones" is just wrong. It's like saying apples are fruit, tomatoes are fruit - therefore apples are tomatoes. Disagreeing with that statement isn't "arguing semantics"...
Aceman67 Oct 9th 2011 6:12AM
Sorry to burst your bubble there 'literaltruth', but Hurricanes have been known to produce Tornadoes.
You can read up on it over at the National Weather Service National Hurricane Center website: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/HAW2/english/tornadoes.shtml
Literaltruth Oct 9th 2011 7:47AM
There's no bubble to burst. I never said anywhere that hurricanes couldn't produce tornadoes. In fact that supports what I was saying, that tornadoes and hurricanes are not the same thing, which you seemed to be implying. I'm not quite sure what you think it proves in your favour.
At this point I can only assume you're trolling - so I think I'll stop responding to you now.
