Around Azeroth: It's lovely out in the woods today but safer to stay at home
Well, actually, it's not a lovely day in the woods, but it's pretty in a Halloween-type context. Edstrom of Blackmist Brigade on Darkmoon Faire (EU-A) took this intimidating glamor shot of his guild leader Wulfenbach with his ... uh, "mighty" axe Gorehowl. Can't they update these neat lore items from vanilla WoW and BC so they're no longer laughable? Grom Hellscream deserves a better legacy and a better weapon.

Great shot!

Where is that? My first thought was Demon Fall Canyon in Ashenvale, but the curly roots sticking out of the ground are more like something in one of the Razorfen dungeons.

It looks exactly like a certain area out of the Worgen starting area, although because the Worgen is evidently a high-level character, I would think it would likely come form the upcoming Darkmoon Faire "dangerous woods" area.

I'm pretty sure it's The Blackwald found in Southern Gilneas.
Elennoko Oct 10th 2011 10:31AM
You can still visit Gilneas as a high level. As far as I know, The Blackwald wasn't flooded like Duskhaven.

This could also be http://www.wowhead.com/item=24394 , although I've never obtained Gorehowl so I've never been able to actually compare the two up-close. Either way, as an avid in-game axe collector, these remain two of my favorite axes in the game. And, honestly, off the top of my head, I'm having a really hard time thinking of axe models I would actually rather use than the Gorehowl model.

Spines on the back in the Screenshot, it's Gorehowl

I totally agree on the Gorehowl question mark. Such a great lore item, and so NOT an imposing axe skin/model. I'm not saying change it, but I will say this is one of those weapons that would benefit from higher quality/resolution in-game graphics. Like if you saw Gorehowl in something like Aion with a tricked out PC, you could probably appreciate the beauty and simplicity of its design because the detailing on it would likely be phenomenal. But in WoW, you have to learn to appreciate items like this from a distance and unfortunately Gorehowl blends in with other weapons from a few paces away.

What's the armor set he's got on?
Seldara Oct 10th 2011 1:51PM
Really excellent work, and I'm not just saying that because we're guildies. ;D

Laughable? I think Gorehowl looks awesome. Actually just picked it up last night for transmogging.

Agreed - love Gorehowl. It looks like an axe you might hit someone with rather than, I don't know, a stick to hold my skull collection.

I always look at it like this. Gorehowl ain't nothing special. It was Grom who made the axe the terror that it was. He was the poster child for blade master. In short Gorehowl ain't legendary, Grom on the other hand, 100% all natural pwnage baby.
