I believe that comment was in reference to the fact that, since the pet is BoU, it can be gifted in-game or used as an incentive/reward/prize by guilds.

I agree that's what they meant, Bobby, but my comment meant to highlight the improbability that's how the pet will ever be transferred between users that way outside of the occasional gift.
