In a way. But honestly, since you don't know for sure in advance how much gold you'll get for your $10, there's an element of gambling involved, too.

The theoretical 2-transaction cycle is so nuanced, though, I find it hard to view it as anything but a test balloon. The dollars they get from this won't be nearly as important as the information the experiment provides.
