The Queue: 11 days 'til BlizzCon
Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.
This weekend was particularly light on answerable questions, so today's edition of The Queue will be a particularly light read. Embrace the brief!
blazenor asked:
We know that Blizzard won't reveal their next MMO, so outside of the next expansion will there be any major surprise at BizzCon?
This BlizzCon will most likely have a new WoW expansion, some sort of Heart of the Swarm cinematic (or other major piece of eye candy), and we're likely to get some Diablo 3 teases to keep the hype train rolling on that game. I'm not sure if any of those count as surprises to you or not!
I have a feeling we're going to see Blizzard really digging into mobile/social (think Facebook) gaming this year, too. Maybe not, though.
That one Joey asked:
What would happen if I put +40 mastery (save for meta requirements) in all my hpallys gem slots, reforged to mastery, and used at least 1 mastery trinket?
You would have a lot of mastery.
In all seriousness, you would be able to pump out some great absorption, but most high-end holy paladins don't like investing into that much mastery. You want a good chunk of haste to support those heals, too. You can't get it if you're investing that deeply into mastery instead.
@SerenitySaz asked:
If a treant despawns alone in the woods, does it make a death noise?
No, because despawning isn't dying. Despawning is merely ceasing to exist. A larger question is if a treant despawns and leaves no loot, did it ever really exist at all?
@msufarley asked:
Has Bliz ever talked about bringing the ultimate big bad Sargeras into the game?
The topic comes up from time to time. The answer is always some variation of "not yet."

Indeed, Happy Thanksgiving to all of our northern friends.

For those in Canada: Happy Thanksgiving
For those in the US: Happy Columbus Day
For everyone else: happy Monday!

Question for our Canadian friends...
When does your Christmas shopping season "really" kick off? We (US) have our November thanksgiving, which gives us a solid month. I'd hate to think it starting today, and have to deal with over 2 months of Christmas music and crap. (I know, in some places down here the music and stuff started after labor day.)
Just curious.

November 1 is when the christmas rush generally starts happening for us.

@RS
I've already started hearing commercials saying "Get a jump start on your holiday shopping!" or "The Holidays are just around the corner!" and I'm dreading every minute of it. Most people I know start their shopping just after Halloween though. I, on the other hand, start my shopping in late December, in true male fashion.

I'd generally say the day after Hallowe'en is the accepted first day of the Christmas shopping season, though to me the most prominent feature in stores from November 1 to 11 are the veterans selling poppies; so one could argue November 12. November 1 is still probably the "correct" answer though.

ToastyPosty reminded me of something.
I have gone Christmas shopping the day before Christmas precisely once. It was at the local mall in Wichita Falls, TX, and I was trying to wrap it up before hopping on a plane home later that day.
Not gonna lie, roughly half the families there were dressed in orange hunting gear. Even little kids. Is this normal for Texas? Were they expecting to find game amongst the mall's patrons?

I'm in PA and I've already seen Christmas stuff beginning to show up. I actually saw some displays in September, which I refused to acknowledge, because I don't think Christmas until my birthday passes (end of september) and there's been at least one turkey meal (thanksgiving). I love Halloween, so I focus on that from the beginning of october, sometimes even late september. I try to shop early ( early december lol), though I have been down to the wire a couple times. I avoid black friday and christmas eve like the plague! :)
Happy Day to everyone!

They have Christmas cards and decorations up at the grocery store down the street, so I know Halloween is only a few weeks away!

¡Feliz dÃa de la raza para Latinoamérica!
ravyncat Oct 10th 2011 3:15PM
@ Loop
I wouldn't consider it normal for Texas, but it is pretty common in small towns during hunting season. Wichita Falls is the biggest town in the area so it probably drew in hunters either looking to get one last gift or to buy ammo or something.
Or it was just a Twilight Zone moment. You never can tell.

Columbus was a mean person to Native Americans. Many people were, but that doesn't make it ok.
In California, Cesar Chavez day is the state holiday (last Friday in March) instead of Columbus day.
Just FYI for you non-californians.
But Happy Thanksgiving (harvest holiday) and Feliz Dia de la Raza.
Xantenise Oct 10th 2011 4:41PM
@RS You *only* get a month? Here down under Christmas season starts in October, sometimes even late August. It's a pain in the ass!

Mild Stormrage Spoiler alert:
Do you think we will be seeing Xavius again in service to whatever Old God infested the Emerald Dream? I wasn't clear from the book whether or not he was dead or just defeated (Xavius that is)...

Yes, you can hear Chris Metzen sing it.
I also want to finish the entire song, but that would ruin the fun of others.
