TCG Loot card mounts like the Spectral Tiger have been BoE for a long time now (since patch 3.2), and that was and continues to be well-received, and as far as we've been able to tell hasn't had any adverse impact to the game or economy - despite them selling for sometimes astronomical amounts of gold.
It's potentially worth noting that no new gold is being introduced into the game's economy with those mounts or the new Guardian Cub pet.
Our goal with the Guardian Cub is to provide alternative ways for players who don't want to spend real money to add these pets to their collection. Even though this has been available a while now with the TCG mounts, this is obviously a new kind of way to deliver Pet Store pets, and we're definitely interested to hear your feedback and ultimately see how this will play out.

Nah jk.
We've already incorporated a lot of race/class combos that never existed from the release of the game. I think you could argue we should just make it so every race can be every class at this point, we're pretty much there, and I think you could argue that we should hang on to the few distinctions we have left.
I'll make one argument, it would be a lot of work to scale/fit each class-specific armor piece to two additional models (male/female) of a new race. Not insurmountable, but it'd be a call we'd really have to evaluate and be prepared to take on that extra work for every set that's produced. Aside from any lore-related explanations we want to keep.
Personally I think the distinction that only some races can be some classes adds a lot to the game. It makes it feel more real, even if I don't know what the lore reason is.

I'm really excited that the stance of full race and class combinations is making some head-way, and that's all I'll really say on the matter because I'm too busy being a giddy mess thinking of all the wondrous possibilities to form any other coherent thoughts at this time.

Dwarves just need Druids and then they're done.
Aceman67 Oct 11th 2011 12:37AM
Screw dwarves, give us GNOME DRUIDS!

Gnome Druids and Hunters!
Druids: Cub, Lynx, Rooster, Twig and Humming bird forms!
Hunters: Tame and ride your pets! An endless amount of mounts you can change to suit your tastes/mood!
WARNING: It is recommended that aspiring Gnome Hunters spray themselves down in BitterGnome to prevent being ingested by accident. We also recommend feeding your pets. Very. Often.

@ Aceman67 -
Maybe it's just me, but that's the best argument in favor of gnome druids I've ever seen. ^_^

Actually, I think full race/class combos would be stupid. Do you know how much of a lore stretch it would be for certain races to be certain classes? Oh, I know some people don't care, but I do. Furthermore, you should have to play a certain race if you want to play a certain class. It's more fun that way.

"Why can we not get Undead or Orc Pallys?

Nah jk."
Seems like but for the Forsaken, most of the any race-any class stuff would have been plausible. Orcs learn of the Light from the Argents perhaps... especially after meeting them in Northrend? A curious gnome somehow manages to stick with druid training? A human shaman isn't far-fetched if a Draenei can be one. Sure, they would be odd, but it wouldn't be impossible, and part of fantasy is the person in the unconventional role. Heck, I've even finally gotten to the point where I could see how goblin shamans could work.
Forsaken, being dead however seem to simply not fit in with certain classes: Paladins, druids and shamans being classes which seem to be naturally in opposition to necromatic beings.
I know my views aren't popular but it seems like it's the Forsaken which causes this problem of limiting classes to certain races.
Funkysocks Oct 11th 2011 3:23AM
Agree on the forsaken part there. If you want a forsaken paladin a Death Knight is the closest you get.
Since gnomes now can be priests, and they are already furious warriors. I am eagerly awaiting the next step.
Gnome paladins. I can see how the knights of the silver hand were kind of a racist bunch of crusaders back in Lordaeron. But today in Azeroth i think we are all ready for the next step in light worship.
rapsam2003 Oct 11th 2011 11:28AM
Consider also that the only Dwarves who practice Shamanism are the Wildhammer. Since the Wildhammer weren't officially part of the Dun Morough kingdom until Cataclysm, Dwarves could not be shamans. Likewise, the only Night Elves who practice arcance magic are the formerly exiled Highborne (those who didn't follow Azshara, obviously). Only now are those Night Elves being welcomed back into the rest of Night Elf society.
There are lore reasons why new class/race combos have been added. Likewise, there are lore reasons other class/race combos don't exist.
Amaxe Oct 11th 2011 12:17PM
The point is, you can learn shamanism, druidism or the Light and decide to become a practitioner of it. I see no reason why you couldn't have converts in Azeroth as you can IRL.
Undead however seems to be a case of being impossible by the nature of the undead

We can't have Undead Paladins because the Light won't grace such abominations. That I can understand, however it doesn't explain why we can have Undead Holy Priests...
Grindlet Oct 11th 2011 4:45AM
Well to be fair, Forsaken pallys makes more sense than Tauren. Some Forsaken were paladins in life (Sir Zeliek for example) and find redemption in undeath (Bartholomew? at Light's chapel).
They can already be priests for that matter, just like trolls. Lore-wise however I think both forsaken and troll priests lean towards the shadowy part of priesthood which could explain the absence of palas for those two races. But again, neither are unfamiliar with the Light.
Al Oct 11th 2011 5:12AM
But then, any Undead devout enough to keep the faith and still be blessed by the Light would have no part of Sylvanas and her murderous Big Bag O' Crazy, so playable Paladins would still be out.
rapsam2003 Oct 11th 2011 11:28AM
The reason Undead priests are justifiable is because it's understood that Undead priests choose to abuse the light, much as Blood Knights originally did. Lorewise, the Undead naturally gravitate towards being shadow priests. Of course, many abuse the light as discipline or holy. The use and practice of the light is supposed to be a path of virtue. By their very nature, the Undead are psychologically bitter and twisted. There's nothing virtuous about the Forsaken. Ergo, they abuse the light when it suits their means.
Also, consider that Troll priests are in tune with the loa, not the light. Their healing is because they have made good with virtuous loa.
milka.hanhela Oct 11th 2011 5:11AM
I wouldn't mind it if Blizzard gave us undead paladins (like Zeliek), but troll paladins? Noooo. Come on, the trolls are primal creatures of the jungle, not noble knights! Some race/class combos just don't really mix. ;) I mean, imagine draenei or tauren warlocks, or maybe a blood elf shaman... And I really don't see any way how the undead could be taken seriously as druids.
ryusan Oct 11th 2011 8:37AM
Blood Elf druids make complete sense. That should be done!
Calisim Oct 11th 2011 11:23AM
I think they should sell two versions of the Guardian Cub Mount... One that's BOE, and one that's BOA... that way, those who want it on all their toons can get it for $10, and those that want to buy it to just to sell it, can.
RandomScrub Oct 11th 2011 2:16PM
I'm very conflicted on the topic of all race/class combinations. On one hand, just about every class you could learn to be.
A warrior, just go beat the crap out of someone.
A warlock, make a pact with likely a lesser demon for power and hey, you're a warlock. Shaman, study the ways of the elements, try to commune with the spirits and if they accept your will, you're a shaman.
Rogue, be sneaky and stab people in the back, steal their wallet while you're at it.
Priests there are various paths to follow, the Light, Elune, Loa... whatever the gnomes and goblins found with their crazy science and so on.
Paladins, warrior of the Holy Orders, or a priest in plate.
Mages, read a book and practice until something happens.
Hunters, go to the shooting range, buy a leash.
Druids are much like shamans only instead of spirits, you work with nature itself.
And Death Knights, warriors raised from the dead and granted unholy powers.
The point being, all these are just paths you can choose to follow, its just a question of whether or not you succeed.
On the other hand though, I'll pick on Undead because that's what's cool right now. They're very existence is an affront to nature, the spirits and just about every religious order in the game so it would be very difficult for them to follow these paths even if they found some form of peace in their undeath.
Orcs aren't inherently evil. Even the ones that drank the Blood of Mannoroth as ol Grom Hellscream proved. Besides they used to be a rather peaceful race full of shamanistic culture, so it wouldn't be a terrible stretch to give them druids or priests, just another path to follow. Other then the nature just might be bitter with orcs in general over that logging thing over in Warsong, trees live hundreds of years and can likely hold a grudge.
Humans. Lets face it, humans are an adaptable race full of raw curiosity. It would hardly be a stretch for any random human to at least try to follow any of the various orders. However they are also a very industrious race, much like the orcs and often overlook nature as they build their cities and expand.
Gnomes and their crazy science. The thing with gnomes is they are very gadget and technology oriented. They aren't really big on religion and while a few may decide its the path to follow, I think they'd rather make their toys.
Night Elves, they aren't very big on demons after the wars and losing their immortality twice. So I can't see them communing with a demon longer then it takes to kill them. A Night Elf following the path of a shaman on the other hand doesn't seem like that much of a stretch for me though, as its just another way of working with nature. As for Paladins? Knight of the Moon.
Draenei. Same thing with nelfs really, if they're a shaman why shouldn't they be a druid? A rogue on the other hand, its kinda hard to be sneaky with hooves. Last would be Warlocks. There are already Draenei warlocks, we call them Eredar and I don't see any deserting the Burning Legion to join the Alliance.
Worgen. A rather feral race, the night elves taught them to be druids. If the dwarves or draenei want to try training one to be a shaman, I don't think there's anything really stopping them. As for being a Paladin, I don't see why they shouldn't be one. Gileas had plenty of Paladins before they began turning into worgen and I don't see why they couldn't still be one even after going furry.
Tauren. As for rogues, big clunky hooves does not make for good sneakiness. As for mages and warlocks Tauren are rather in tune with nature and aren't one for the unnatural. But if a demon corrupts a few into warlocks, or they finally learn to read and pick up a book of the arcane, why not cast some magic?
Trolls, like dwarves there is only one class they cannot be currently and that's Paladin. After years of troll wars with the humans its not likely they'll get anything out of them. But there's those Tauren sun walkers, if at troll is interested, there's an order that may accept them.
Blood Elves, druids and shamans. I've pretty much been reusing the same argument over and over again so I'll only type why they wouldn't. Magic yo
Goblin paladins and druids? Same old stuff. I think they'd rather make things go boom though
I do not study lore that much, I enjoy reading the books though, so if you want to quote something at me in disagreement with what I've posted I don't mind, just be polite. This is my first post on this site so be gentle, I just wanted to put my opinion out there.
