Yes, this is a foot in the door and a trip down the slippery slope.Up until now, Blizz had done a pretty good job of making sure that people of low economic means IRL can compete on an equal basis with people of higher economic means. You can be flate broke in Mom's basement, but still be able to compete against a 50 year old exec, both in battle and in the game economy.If you look at this from the perspective of the person buying the pet in the AH, yes it's just another way to get a cute pet. But if you look at it from the perspective of someone paying cash for it and selling it in game - it's buying gold pure and simple. People with more money can buy more gold, and use it to their advantage in game.

I don't think there's enough demand for kittens for this to be a sustainable way of buying gold for anyone. If/when they introduce a whole stream of new, tradable items then maybe.But then the TCG cards have been gold-buying in all but name since forever. And those are significant sums, not the 500-ish gold this thing is likely to settle at.
