Blizzard wants you to Ask the Artists this BlizzCon

BlizzCon thunders towards us like some great thundering thing. This year, BlzzCon will include a chance for you to ask questions on the forums and have them answered at the convention.
BlizzCon: Ask the Artists - Zarhym
Head over to the BlizzCon forums for a list of disciplines and categories including 3D modeling, trading card art, Cinematic Matte Painting and my personal favorite, Environment Concepts. I'd love to hear about the design process for WoW zones or the new Diablo III.
Turn to WoW Insider for all your BlizzCon 2011 news and information. Get ready to kick off the weekend with the WoW Insider Reader Meetup cohosted by Wowhead, and look for our liveblogs of the convention panels, interviews with WoW celebrities -- and of course, lots of pictures of people in costumes. It's all here at WoW Insider!
At this year's BlizzCon we have a stage dedicated to featuring Blizzard artists of all disciplines and styles, from Glenn Rane (Digital Painting, Creative Development) to Samwise Didier (Traditional Drawing, StarCraft II). Whether you're attending the event or watching from home, we're giving you the opportunity to ask a question of the artists in this thread. All you have to do is list the discipline and/or category below which best fits your art-related question and ask away. If selected, your inquiry will be read and answered live from the Artist Stage at BlizzCon!

Questions like, "Why are some of the females armor done so hyper sexualized that even Boris Vallejo and Frank Franzetta would shake their heads in disbelief"?

I couldn't find one wearing armor.
I hope we won't get really stupid questions on this panel like all others. How many times do you need to get up and ask the same question which has been asked 10 times before, and given the same non-commital answers? I guarantee you the first question will be "Are you thinking of doing new player models?", when the answer has been given at least 5 times now.

boys have biceps and girls have boobs and everybody wants to see all of it, nextquestion

Yeah, too bad all of the "pretty" squishy-bits on a lady that people seem to want to see are directly over major organs and tendons. It BUGS ME.
I know we won't change the world with this but... come on, armor should AT LEAST cover the heart, yes? I mean the sentinal armor is form-fitting and some would argue, sexy but it actually covers what armor is meant to cover.
Really, REALLY! I know I should duck too. ;) ;-p

Question #1:
How does tier gear get so ugly?
No seriously... where in your art school training did you learn that a dead fish man on your head looks good?
razion Oct 11th 2011 8:29PM
If you are actually curious as to where some of the people from Blizzard got their training, how they developed some of their art styles, how they came to work at Blizzard, and so on, there are much nicer ways to phrase the question without coming off so snide and opinionated.
As an aside, I know a few who actually *love* the murloc hunter set design and who would wish there were more sets like it. Armor types appeal to all types, and just aiming to appeal to one type of aesthetic is a quick way for armor sets to seem repetitive and boring. Actually, that is a good question I'd like to see answered in the Q&A: How do you keep armor exciting for each tier so that it doesn't look like the last? What is the thought process that goes on there?

Ahem. "How will our VP convert when 4.3 comes?"
Sorry, had to be done. You know it's gonna happen.

As a budding teenage artist who's dream carreer is dream art, and dream job is at Blizzard (or at least a similar studio), I nearly orgasmed when I saw this headline. I think my post of questions may extend the scroll bar of that forum quite a bit. Thankfully most of the questions are just underhanded criticisms of the art team's perceived skills (IN THE EYE OF THE GODDAMN BEHOLDER, PEOPLE), and even then there aren't too many, so maybe I'll get some read!
That might be the happiest moment of my life. I love these guys and all the work they do, Warcraft has got to bee one of the most aesthetically pleasing games I've ever played. I mean, Gilneas, you can't deny that that's a pretty damn cool place. My RP main dwelled there for a reason >_>

Damn, so excited I had a really silly Freudian slip there. :x

"Hey Artists! Get off your lazy arses and show us Death Knight Tier 13 already!"
Patrick Oct 12th 2011 12:01PM
I don't understand why Blizzard always tries to cattle the Q&A into such finite boxes. The people attending Blizzcon care about the games, they do not care about how the games are made. Now that is an exaggeration and I am sure there are those who do enjoy that stuff. But to be honest, it's not the majority. Why not have more panels that answer questions about gameplay? Why not have more panels strictly focused on the lore? No one really cares about the polygon count of that flower.
