Is he simply excited about turning level 20 and being able to quit walking everywhere, or has that Blood Elf Bandit mask seeped into his brain and turned him into a horse thief? If it's the latter, let me remind you that stealing horses is way too 19th-century for a blue space goat.

Seriously. I was leveling a draenei pally pre-cata, and after the first login and mount up onto the new elekk I logged and havent been on since ._.

I agree. I try to get all my Draenei characters (especially paladins) exalted with Stormwind as fast as possible so I can get my horse. I refuse to be rude and ride the SUV-sized elekk around Stormwind.

I miss my pally horses...pally elephants do not thrill me. In fact I never ride my pally mounts now.
I don't like elekks and won't ride them on any character.

Thank goodness I did the Argent Tournament back in WoLK! Got my "dirty" pally horsey mount for my pally and a warhorse for my Death Knight.

Regular Elekk = ugly.
Exarch/Great Exarch Elekk for Draenei Paladin = Badass.
This is how the Elekk's SHOULD look in game, and much more closely represents the concept art for BC. It also shows Blizzard has the capacity for higher resolution character models on mounts. They just need to be prodded to get more models updated.

The poly count isn't even higher, it just has a much better paint job. Most of the older models, especially the vanilla ones, look like a kid just found the dodge and burn tool in Photoshop.

I still wish I had the golden horse for my main as I did the Charger quest chain with her (and have the Feat of Strength). I was sad that Blizzard didn't grandfather us in with the charger. I do have the silver Argent Tourney one, but I would like to ride the mount I earned at level 60!
That said, the Great Exarch Elekk is the only elekk I like the look of. All the other elekk are just blah to my tastes. YMMV, of course.

I like the way it looks too, but I hate how big it is. I don't like any giant mounts--this includes flying ones.
I hate being in Iron Forge and getting stuck in a doorway--or any town really, IF just comes to mind first--because Draenei are so tall anyway and putting them on a giant elephant only makes it worse.
I generally ride Nightsabers simply because they are low to the ground and I can get where I want to be easier.

I was lucky enough to pull an "El Pollo grande" card from the TCG. My Draenei Pally now rides a Giant Chicken as her noble steed.

I've never cared for elekks. I got both of my Draenei chicks exalted with Darnassus before level 40 (back when we still had to hoof it for 40 levels. Damn kids. Get off my lawn!) so they could ride sabers. Frostsaber for my shaman, mistsaber for my priest.
My pally, thankfully, is a Blood Elf so she still has her horse. Though since I RP that she renounced the Blood Knight order for its misdeeds during BC, she always rides the Argent Charger.
