Great comic as always, although the story seems to get sadder and sadder....I hope the next panel isn't when he finds out he has cancer :)
RetPallyJil Oct 12th 2011 2:44PM
No, his beard falls out, the beer runs out, THEN he gets cancer.
(Feel good story of the year here!)
(Not saying that's a bad thing, though)
Gurren Oct 12th 2011 2:41PM
I think its about to get awhole lot sadder the way this is going....
Mike Oct 12th 2011 2:38PM
I'm willing to bet this ends up with Papa being found and reunited with the kids.
Dreyja Oct 12th 2011 3:37PM
My super soft heart would hope so but I'm not going to assume that such a happy ending will be the best direction for the story.
Still...

I am starting to dislike this comic from the previous panel until now, for one reason. It's going to suck seeing what happens to him. Each one makes it worse and worse because we essentially know what happens to him, unless a surprise is pulled out.
Bellajtok Oct 12th 2011 2:54PM
Why does everyone think that things are only going to get worse? It seems to me that in the last panel he realized that the orphans had nothing too, and yet they could be happy. I bet he adopts one of them.
Also, awesome comic. Truly.

Because we know how the story turns out.
This comic is a prelude to her last one, where two orphan girls were found in the wreckage of a caravan that was sacked by Quillboars. They were the only survivors.
Angus Oct 12th 2011 4:51PM
This is a prologue. Look up the original story.
Unless Cadichan pulls a bit of a retcon, this will be very bittersweet for the ending.
I don't think she'll do that. Expect someone to be cutting onions nearby at the ending.
kaminari Oct 12th 2011 5:59PM
@ angus, it doesn't have to be a retcon, they never showed the body or any proof of death for the dwarf, we just assumed he died because quilboars don't tend to leave survivors, but the comic was about escorting 2 survivors of those quilboars.
I hope he survived and now he's looking for the 2 little girls, but that isn't assured either.

Not every story is all happy and light. Not every battle ends in victory and glory.
Who do you think is filling those graveyards? Where do those orphans come from we drag through battlegrounds every year? When we fought Arthas' death knights, as we know now, those had been good solid heroes of ours before they met their end.
This installment, however, raises more than a little hope at the end, since a man (or dwarf) who suddenly realizes that his condition isn't unique, that he shares circumstances and a bond with others suffering as he has, can be uplifted.
His story breaks the heart, to be sure. I am mindful that I, as an American, have countrymen coming back from overseas wars whose stories might not be different enough from the dwarf's to even notice. In fact, this story is probably one that's been lived and relived for centuries.

Wow, that first panel, where he's looking out the window of what I presume is the Deeprun Tram...
Epic sadface. I cringed.
Well done, Kelly.
Cobalt Oct 12th 2011 4:01PM
I thought it was the Deepraum tram too.
But upon closer inspection, it appears to be a skyline of some random city with skyscrapers and the moon in the background.
Immersion broken, WORST COMIC EVER!
(Just kidding).
djsuursoo Oct 12th 2011 5:06PM
cobalt:
my money's on that skyline being someplace like dalaran.
Angus Oct 12th 2011 5:07PM
I thbk the fact that he was a guard in Ironforge during LK made me double-take.
I remember those guards hitting like Mack trucks. How did the quillboar beat one of them?
Dreyja Oct 12th 2011 3:39PM
This comic is KEEEELING MEE!! ;) In a good way. Remember that you promised us rainbows and unicorns next week. XD
StClair Oct 12th 2011 5:26PM
She did?
Dreyja Oct 12th 2011 5:38PM
On twitter - yes. I am considering that a binding contract of happiness. XD
Al Oct 12th 2011 11:09PM
Not to be a Downer, but she only said "next comic".. which could be some time away.
Dreyja Oct 13th 2011 3:18PM
Ah POOP! I took that as next-panel. My bad. Still I hope for a LEETLE bit of sunshine. ;-p
