Everyone is still up in arms over the new pet from the Blizzard store -- and arguing over what this means for the future of WoW's economy. Needless to say, today we've got another roundup of posts from around the blogosphere further discussing the situation.
- Power Word: Gold ponders Blizzard's future intentions for the pet store and whether this is paving the way for more items paid for with real cash.
- The Ancient Gaming Noob takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the situation and other examples of RMT in gaming.
- Keen and Graev's Gaming Blog points out that these kitties are not pure RMT at all.
- Lastly, Marks-365 takes a moment to point out what is bothering me about this whole situation: $10 spent, and I only get the pet on one character? Oh, no no no no no no no.

That cat looks absolutely terrified... =/

Poor critter.
I've heard mine make some odd noises, chirping for one, but nothing like that.
Funny stuff though.

That is for some inexplicable reason that cat doesn't like the owner's daughter (as pointed out in a comment below). My parent's dog is the same way with me. And everytime I visit it will cower under whatever furniture is available nearby while making peculiar noises. Yet I pose no threat to this dog or have never harmed (nor could I) in its life. So I presume this is the same situation here. Though I can understand this how this video can be distressing to some.

That cat needs a kitty-Ativan.

This is why you don't give a cat peanut butter.

I would love to have this on multiple toons, but I can understand why they dont. If it were to work like similar pets, you would have people simply creating toons for the pet, mail it to the main, repeat, then post a ton of them on the AH. Seeing as Blizzard has said they intend for this to be something people can post on the AH, the 1 per person limit ensures there will not be a huge stock of these on the AH driving down the price.

The way they could get around this problem is to have 2 item ids. The first item would be bind on equip, and that could be listed on the auction house. Once it is consumed it could create another item similar to the onyxian whelpling or the blizzard bear that would be bind on account (and thus unable to be sold.)
This would, however, severely limit the market as each player would only need one pet per account, instead of one for each petcrazy collector toon they make.

XD Poor kitty! I guess he doesn't want to be on Youtube. Understandable. It's bad but adorable all at the same time! /comforts kitty.

Interesting - my impression of the MMO blogosphere's response has been that most people are surprisingly unbothered by the cute lil' kitty and his potential RMTish implications. I was expecting waves of vitriol, but PW:G is the only blog I've seen really warning of the likely effects, and there's been an awful lot of "meh, don't really mind" or "great, a strike against the gold-sellers" posts (I recall Apple Cider Mage posting to that effect).

The person who first posted the video explained that a friend brought the friend's daughter to the man's house for the first time and the cat did this. On subsequent visits, the cat merely hissed at the daughter. It never happened again. No cat was harmed in the making of the video.
Aldarion Oct 14th 2011 2:47PM
But how can a cat give out sounds like THIS? I mean, this is really sick :D
Marcosius Oct 14th 2011 4:54PM
Aldarion, you've never seen cats puke hairballs and generally just puke? That is just lame in comparison what that kitty says...

Incidentally, if people want EVEN MORE "Kitten Standard Economy" action, we rounded up the blogsphere's responses over at

A fair number of the posts we highlight there have also been highlighted on the Daily Quest, but there's a few others I thought were really interesting, too!

My cat has been sleeping in my lap for the past hour, and has completely ignored all sounds from the computer, including an audiobook and the sounds of doing dailies on the Molten Front.
I played this video, and he immediately woke up, started turning around in circles on my lap, and meowing. Ah cats. Will your entertainment value ever cease?

Everyone complains about the 1 pet per toon, but 10-20k gold for an account-wide pet would seem fantastically cheap. But I also admit that 10k for a non-rare pet is also pricy. We'll just have to see what the AH economy settles on as an average price.
wow Oct 15th 2011 4:14AM
The 'only one pet per character''s bothering me as well...

That's a druid's cat asking for buff to the NOMNOMNOM talent :D
mlanza83 Oct 15th 2011 7:17AM
Or maybe that's a cat druid saying NOMNOMNOM... It's so cute even if the cat was terrified :)
