The Queue: Cats and Dogs
Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mike Sacco will be your host today.
A short but sweet ditty from The Head and the Heart. Anyone else think that blonde gal is super-cute? Also, guy on the keyboard: I do the exact same thing when the claps come up when I'm listening to the song. My face when it happened in the video: :O -> :D -> :3
Daedalus asked:
So, after reading the latest leader story, I was left with one question: is there any lore around "Remembrance Day" besides in Blood of Our Fathers? Do we know when it's celebrated? And do you think there's any chance we'll see it as an in-game holiday?
It appears to just be window dressing for the short story. The holiday exists, I'm sure, within the context of the game's lore now, but whether it becomes an actual in-game holiday is anyone's guess. It seems to serve a similar purpose to the Harvest Festival, though. Or at least what the Harvest Festival used to be, where you'd go talk to ... was it Uther or something? I hate holidays.

Shamroco asked:
If I mog whatever shoulders I'm wearing into my shaman tier 10, will I still randomly get to see my shoveltusks? Or do those animations, like the lock wings from vanilla, not appear?
Yes, the graphical effects will appear. They wouldn't appear if the roles were reversed, though.
Grovinofdarkhour asked:
What DK spec do you think could most easily solo Auchenai Crypts at level 75?
(I know it's outta left field, I have my reasons)
Absolutely blood. The self-healing, damage mitigation, and AOE potential is great.
Oblition asked:
Has there been any word if additional rewards will become available for Tol Barad marks? My main has somethere around 400 or so and would hate to dump em on the rep commendations only to see a cool new mount or something available soon.
No indication, and it's highly, highly unlikely.
Priestess asked:
Speaking of comments on articles, which article has had the most responses ever? Are there any that have had none at all (barring the far-out possiblity that they were disabled for that post)?
The article with the most comments was a contest post in which you comment for a chance to win a $4,000 Dell World of Warcraft laptop. We had something like 50,000 comments, I think? As for posts with zero comments, it happens from time to time. Most posts average comments in the low-to-mid double digits, though.

Here's one for the queue:
We're only a week out from Blizzcon. It seems to me that at this point before Lich King and Cataclysm were announced, there was a lot more speculation, leaks, and datamined tidbits. Has Blizzard gotten better about keeping secrets? Has WoWInsider simply decided not to speculate on rumors as much this time around? Or am I just remembering badly?
Iirdan Oct 15th 2011 12:06PM
I remember being completely shocked about the announcement of Lich King - people were discussing it in trade and I was laughing at their silliness (sure did put my foot in my mouth then...).
Cataclysm however was marred by some pretty substantial leaks. While they weren't totally accurate, they were pretty close. I'm thinking that the leaks surrounding Cataclysm led Blizzard to really tighten up security.
Drakkenfyre Oct 15th 2011 12:09PM
No, we knew the majority of the features of the next expansion like months and months before BlizzCon last year. That had to be embaressing as hell. So much so, when Rob Pardo asked if everyone was ready for a "cataclysmic unveiling", everybody in the audience groaned.
They must have gotten better at it. Not even MMO-Champion is reporting much, and he doesn't care about any confidentiality unless he's asked to keep something for awhile. So it's not just WoW Insider.
MusedMoose Oct 15th 2011 12:15PM
I think you are remembering right, assuming of course that I'm remembering right. ^_^ In years past, we definitely knew the expansion's title and general content before Blizzcon - the Cataclysm leaks in particular were huge. My guess is that Blizzard has decided to wait until Blizzcon to let us know anything, thus building the anticipation and/or making sure we don't get tired of hearing about upcoming stuff too soon.

I'm relishing the non-information personally. It's nice to know nothing about what's coming next and have an announcement at Blizzcon have some real impact....that's assuming that there is something to announce of course! Wouldn't it be such an anti-climax if there was no major WoW announcement at Blizzcon? I know it's highly, highly unlikely but that small doubt won't go away.

You aren't remembering it badly, and personally .. I'm kind of glad I don't know every single thing yet. I remember feeling like wrath was a bit of a let down because I knew SO MUCH about it before it launched. Same with Cata. The slower release of information in my opinion is good. I know that no one -makes- me read, but when your favorite wow blogger site (this one) had virtually every other article about it .. it's hard to avoid the temptation to keep up to date on things, and even if you don't read anything people in your guild, trade, etc continue to talk about it.
So yeah the only real speculation people have at this point is the pandas, just from them registering that title.
JoeHelfrich Oct 15th 2011 1:35PM
The leak last time was from the Friends and Family alpha, though, right? Is there any indication that phase has started yet? I mean, it's possible there haven't been any leaks because the expansion isn't that far along yet.
Diop Oct 15th 2011 1:48PM
Maybe I'm miss remembering it but I could swear the only things we really knew at Blizzcon was the title, due to a copyright leak similar to mists of panderia, and strongly suspected the new races would be goblin and worgen due to the Halloween masks. There was later a massive leak of pretty much all cata content on mmo-champion from the friends and family alpha but that was after the Blizzcon announcement of Cataclysm.
That's just how I remember it though, I could be wrong.

2 years ago in August, all we had is speculation. I remember people saying it was going to be the emerald dream right up until the night before Blizzcon. I believe the day of Blizzcon, they released the Cataclysm cinematic with Worgen and Goblins as new races. I hope there is no information leaked up to blizzcon, even though I am not attending/watching. The suspense will be as thick as pea soup :) Yeah, there's a visual for you.

So far the only leak has been a trademark filing for a software title, "Mists of Pandaria." Which is most likely the next expansion.
In the build up to the Burning Crusade announcement, Blizzard kept everything neatly under wraps until a German gaming magazine with details and screens was leaked about a week early and scans quickly made their way online.
I don't really remember the details of the Wrath of the Lich King announcement, but I believe a PTR build accidentally leaked some Howling Fjord doodads (trees and scenery bits) in a folder called 'Expansion_02', inside one of the model mpq archives. I want to say that there were some more accidental model leaks after that... I seem to recall seeing "northrend_" tagged weapon and item models, and perhaps even the tuskarr model. There was also the trademark filing for "Wrath of the Lich King," of course.
The Cataclysm announcement was preceded by the accidental (?) leak of worgen and goblin masks for Hallow's End, and a massive leak by MMO Champion that came from an inside source, most likely a current or former employee of Blizzard Entertainment. And the trademark filing for "Cataclysm," which, incidentally, a ton of people didn't believe would be the name of the next expansion.
Snuzzle Oct 15th 2011 7:16PM
No, there was a massive leak on MMO about a week before Cata. I remember because I remember scoffing "we'll never be able to fly in Azeroth, the amount of work involved in that would be *huge*." I also remember Boub saying he'd run naked down the streets of Paris if he was wrong.
And he wasn't wrong.
Even TBC, a couple nights before Blizzcon the draenei models were leaked. We always get SOME leak before Blizzcon, even if it's only a few days before.
So for now, I'm biding my time, and checking a few websites daily. It'll come, that's for sure. It'll come.

Urgent question!
-The deadline for the annual Blizzard writing contest is today, and I just realized that in my submission I botched some of my personal information. How can I remedy this! I don't know who to contact in Blizzard, or if it's even possible to recall my submission or submit a new proper entry. Halp!
xvkarbear Oct 15th 2011 12:18PM
You're probably better off asking this on blizzard's forums.
Aftermathmatical Oct 15th 2011 12:23PM
Since its today, the queue won't help, but other commenters might, so here's my answer.
Call blizzard. Call any kind of support you can and ask which department to speak to. See if you can get transferred there. A blizzard employee might know more than what you find on the site. Check around the contest for any other info.
Also, email them again where you submitted your submission and tell them you had your info wrong. Do both of these things to ensure you get it corrected. Don't give up today until you know someone has heard it and then corrected it. Try to talk to a supervisor if you can.
Matthew Oct 15th 2011 4:05PM
Maybe you can resubmit with a preface that the info in submission 1 was wrong?
good luck!

QftQ:
When will my priest be able to expertly fire off arrows while laying the smackdown on cultists? Witch Hunter "hero" class incoming?
Plate wearing ranged-tank / heals ftw?
ugoticedbro Oct 15th 2011 12:14PM
Anduin Wrynn will secretly organize this class in the next expansion.
LynMars Oct 15th 2011 1:56PM
Traditional fantasy bards, a mix of rogues and healers! I'd be down.
Caster bows may be silly, but no less than the useless wands we have now. They may make sense for a mage or even warlock, but why does my priest need a wand? prayers aren't the same as ritual spells. And it's not like wands do anything but are a stat boost, or a way to kill critters while the raid leader briefs the group. Enchanters can't even make them past what, lvl 30? It's silly.
Bellajtok Oct 15th 2011 2:19PM
Much as I love the idea of bards, I think it's less than likely after that April Fool's joke about them.
Sintraedrien Oct 15th 2011 4:07PM
