Patch 4.3 PTR: New jewelcrafting vendors and recipes

Hey jewelcrafters, if you're wondering where exactly you're going to learn to cut all those new epic gems we're getting in patch 4.3, you can rest easy. Two new jewelcrafting vendors have been added on the PTR. For Alliance, you'll find Farrah Facet at the trainers in Stormwind, for Horde, you can find Taryssa Lazuria in the jewelcrafting hut. Currently the huts on the PTR in Orgrimmar are overrun with piles of Ethereal junk, leaving poor Taryssa literally buried under a pile of crates, but she is there.
New epic gems include Queen's Garnet, Lightstone, Deepholm Iolite, Lava Coral, Shadow Spinel, and Elven Peridot. There's a twist with these jewelcrafting recipes, however. Each recipe costs five jewelcrafting tokens, compared to the three required for rare gem cuts. On top of that, the vendors sell the Tome of Burning Jewels, which will teach you a random Cataclysm epic gem recipe. The cost for the tome is only four tokens, so savvy jewelcrafters can spend their tokens on the cuts they need immediately, and then just purchase the Tome to save on token costs when they no longer care what recipe they are getting.

So, are the gems still going to be dropping from bosses? And are they dropping from raids or 5 man dungeon bosses? Also, are they going to be BoE? Or BoP with only JC'rs being able to roll on them?

At the moment, all we know is what Ghostcrawler stated: "The way we're hoping to set it up, and we kind of have this working but things could change before we go live, is when you kill a boss on normal or heroic mode, each player gets a geode, and when they open the geode there's a chance they may find an epic gem inside. If not, it'll have blue gems or something like that" from here: http://wow.joystiq.com/2011/09/19/patch-4-3-epic-gems-and-more-on-the-deathwing-encounter-from-gh/
We haven't heard any further updates on that, but as soon as we know where the gems will be coming from, we'll post it. :)

I think BoP, and when JCer cut, it'll be cut on the "non-traded item" slot.
Charron Oct 16th 2011 1:04AM
So far, the gems are dropping from bosses in raids only (normal and heroic I believe, otherwise, they would be too farmable in LFR). Likely will be BoE so that they can be cut by JCers or sold. I hope they are not BoP, that's a hassle!

Thank you, Anne. I do remember that post. I just wasn't sure if I had missed an article or not changing that info. Thank you for keeping us informed. Now all we need is for Blizzard to allow JC'ers to craft some kind of epic mount that only we can use. Maybe a pyramid of power or something. :D

I have to say, I cannot believe there won't be a way for PVPers to get the gems too, aside from the AH. Blizzard's been pretty adamant, ever since BC, that PVPers shouldn't have to raid to be able to PVP successfully and vice versa.
If there's no PVP way to get epic gems, that's pretty unfair in my opinion.

As of the datamining on wowhead, there will be alchemy transmute recipes to transmute epic gems. So that's at least 2 ways. I would be surprised if they didn't add them to PvP vendors to be bought for honor like they did in wrath. Fair is fair. Should be able to get at least a good 40 more JC tokens before 4.3 drops.

Thank you for staying up late to bring this to us Anne :)

Oh excellent. I've continued to do my JC dailies to stockpile tokens, figuring that if nothing else, I'd just buy everything the vendor had to sell, needed or not, for completionist reasons. This is very nice!
obeah Oct 16th 2011 1:15PM
Yep yep I've been doing that too. A good JC is always preparing for future market opportunities (right, Basil?) Especially since, with the possible exception of the Elemental Goo quest, these JC dailies can be done in 90 seconds or less. :)
JattTheRogue Oct 16th 2011 6:33PM
Yeah, same here, I've been hovering at around 60 marks for a while as I do the daily then buy the odd cut if someone I know needs it or it looks like it sells well on the AH, but now I'll stop buying old cuts and just save.
tekosound Oct 16th 2011 12:49AM
the new gems will drop from the mobs in the raid, right?
Fletcher Oct 16th 2011 12:52AM
A use for my zillions of JC tokens! If only the gems themselves were more readily available so it'd be worth learning them ...
Kole Oct 16th 2011 12:55AM
Guess I'll start doing the daily again. I think I have a whopping 30 tokens so at least I can get the basic epic cuts...the tome is a great idea!!
SaintStryfe Oct 16th 2011 1:39AM
I feel stupid for having spent so many of my tokens. I was told they weren't going to use these. damn.
gewalt Oct 16th 2011 11:01AM
This is extremely disappointing. It basically means everyone and their mom will have all the cuts worth having the second 4.3 goes live, but with a complete lack of gems in the market, there will be more cutters than cuttables.
JC will not be making money off of JC this time around, it will be raiders and alchemists.
great big FU to blizz for this dick move.
JattTheRogue Oct 16th 2011 6:37PM
@Gewalt: Actually, JCers will still be making a ton of money when the patch drops, just not off of epics. Everyone will still need to gem their new gear, and since epic gems will be so rare people will be using rares most of the time. In fact, JCers potentially stand to make MORE money as everyone fills their new gear with rare gems then starts replacing them with epics slowly as they go. Maybe if you'd quit feeling sorry for yourself for one second you'd see that, just like every other new content patch where people replace their gear, JCers and Enchanters will be rolling in the dough.
Charron Oct 16th 2011 12:58AM
196 tokens and counting, oh yeah!
gloryblogs Oct 16th 2011 12:59AM
Haha "Farrah Facet"... nice. =D
Nathanyel Oct 16th 2011 2:43AM
Well Farrah Facet is easy to spot, but Is "Taryssa Lazuria" some reference as well?
