Patch 4.3 PTR: New jewelcrafting vendors and recipes

Hey jewelcrafters, if you're wondering where exactly you're going to learn to cut all those new epic gems we're getting in patch 4.3, you can rest easy. Two new jewelcrafting vendors have been added on the PTR. For Alliance, you'll find Farrah Facet at the trainers in Stormwind, for Horde, you can find Taryssa Lazuria in the jewelcrafting hut. Currently the huts on the PTR in Orgrimmar are overrun with piles of Ethereal junk, leaving poor Taryssa literally buried under a pile of crates, but she is there.
New epic gems include Queen's Garnet, Lightstone, Deepholm Iolite, Lava Coral, Shadow Spinel, and Elven Peridot. There's a twist with these jewelcrafting recipes, however. Each recipe costs five jewelcrafting tokens, compared to the three required for rare gem cuts. On top of that, the vendors sell the Tome of Burning Jewels, which will teach you a random Cataclysm epic gem recipe. The cost for the tome is only four tokens, so savvy jewelcrafters can spend their tokens on the cuts they need immediately, and then just purchase the Tome to save on token costs when they no longer care what recipe they are getting.

Taryssa appears to be the sister of Marith Lazuria, the JC daily and recipe vendor and for the Horde.

I really hope they add some Farrah Hair to the game just for her.
Dimmak Oct 16th 2011 1:22AM
Hmmm, with the JC Chimera gems being +67 of a stat and the new epic gem +50 a stat, JC only sees a 51 profession bonus.
This means it would no longer be in line with the other profession bonuses.
Is it possible they may be changing those JC only gems?
Anne Stickney Oct 16th 2011 1:31AM
Yep! All JC only gems grant a +77 on the PTR.
Dimmak Oct 16th 2011 1:41AM
@Anne Stickney
Fantastic

Anne, do you really have 150k gold?
robitrock Oct 16th 2011 2:12AM
I have 650k not that hard if you have most professions, I am on a small server however so some things are still over priced like 150 gold reckless gems or 9k gold valor bracers.
You can make 300 - 400 gold a day just doing dailys or a few heroics a day if the AH isn't for you
Point is making gold is very easy now as long you have the time to invest and the patience.
Anne Stickney Oct 16th 2011 2:12AM
Nah, I only have about 100k or so on my main -- I sent gold from a deleted PTR alt to my main PTR alt just because I blew so much of it on void storage at the start. :D
Tirrimas Oct 16th 2011 2:22AM
That's PTR Monopoly money. :P
Nick Oct 16th 2011 2:25AM
150k is surely on the lower end of the scale? i have more than double that and don't feel particularly well off. I think I was close to, if not just over, 500k when 4.0 came around.
Natsumi Oct 16th 2011 4:49AM
I hate you all, my stash is less than 10k
gewalt Oct 16th 2011 10:55AM
im over a million on three servers now. shush.
Cyno01 Oct 16th 2011 2:10AM
So if the random recipe wont teach you one you already know (assuming it works like the old books of glyph research, but i dont have an inscriptionator, so im not entirely clear how that worked), thats only 204 tokens, sweet.
/2 jc lfw, have !EVERY! epic cut.
:D

SCRIBE, GOD DAMNIT!!! SCRIBE!
Deathknighty Oct 16th 2011 9:51AM
I myself prefer inscribetionatorist.
trefpoid Oct 16th 2011 2:11AM
Sweet, those 50 tokens will come in handy :)

"so savvy jewelcrafters can spend their tokens on the cuts they need immediately, and then just purchase the Tome to save on token costs when they no longer care what recipe they are getting."
Savvier jewelcrafters will buy a bunch of the random ones first, in the hopes that they get the ones they want cheaper.
Noyou Oct 16th 2011 3:52AM
You do that. I will buy the ones I know will be in demand for 5 tokens. There are plenty of crap cuts that RNG will love to eat up your tokens. All to save 1 token a pop? Thanks but no thanks.
Foxfyr Oct 16th 2011 9:27AM
I have over 200. I'm getting them all.
Puntable Oct 16th 2011 12:27PM
I only buy half the cuts anyway. Nobody uses ot ever buys a lot of the cuts. If you are the "completionist" type of JC, then the random ones get you there faster. If you are going to skip Spell Penetration etc then just buy the ones you want.
