The Queue: Books From Boxes
Not a new song, but one of my favorites circa 2007. The pounding rain continued its bleak fall; we decided just to write after all, after all.
Thatacus asked:
Who posts on WoWInsider's Twitter? Some times, some thing funny gets posted and I want to say it's Fox, but I don't want to inflate his ego anymore than I have to :P
Adam, Alex, Dan, and I all post on the WoW Insider Twitter. I'm generally the one who does non-newsy stuff on there, but it could be any of us at any given time. Fox has, to my knowledge and deep gratitude, never used our official Twitter.
Shrimper asked:
Whatever happened to Heroic Stockades? I vaguely remember playing through it during Beta but can't find much on what actually happened to those plans.
Heroic Stockades was never announced and certainly never playable.
Subtotal asked:
Will we be seeing a return of "Ask a faction leader" at some point?
Some of the answers in those columns were hilarious... Oh yeah and there was some thought provoking stuff in there too or something.
Yes. I'm writing it right now. Well, I mean, not right now, but I was before I was writing The Queue.
Susinko asked:
Do you think there will be more rewards for the Molten Front dailies? I have almost a thousand Marks of the World Tree and don't know what to do with them. It would be nice if we could buy the green Flame Bird that was datamined or those other skins of the Ravenlords that are on fire.
Not with patch 4.3 coming, no. Don't expect any Molten Front updates.
VioletArrows asked:
Is there someone we can report bad WoW Insider ads to? I keep seeing those text ads that say "It made my doctor furious!" "Your car insurance dealer HATES this!" "Follow this one simple tip..." And it's been shown on numerous websites that those ads/websites are all scams.
We have a "Contact Us" link at the top right corner of the site you can use to alert us of that stuff. Try to include a link to the ad in question where possible.
Noyou asked:
91 comments seems to be a record low for the Queue, at least in my viewings of it. Is this so?
Weekend Queues are kind of a crapshoot. I don't think 91 is the lowest one ever, but it's definitely on the lower end (as most Saturday Queues are).

It seems Sunday Queues are as well.

Today has already beaten yesterday!

"Is there someone we can report bad WoW Insider ads to?"
Ads? What ads?...
VioletArrows Oct 16th 2011 12:25PM
Supportin' the site, hon. :p Save for the stupid invisible scrolling, sliding poll thing every once in a while, it's really not that bad. Hell, I never would've known that some very, very silly person thought it was a good idea to make an mmo out of The Godfather movies. (The mmo shark has been jumped. It's over. Everyone go home.)

Unfortunately, those ads you mention are rampant. Many sites don't care who they sell ad space to. So those scammers get ads on normal websites. I constantly see the "follow this one simple tip", and "penny stocks" ads. This is how malicious Flash ads get spread, too. A company not caring who they sell to, and the ad company slipping in Flash exploits.
Even Blizzard got nailed by this. They are usually careful who they sell ad space to, but one time a malicious ad got in on the forums, and it was trying to install rogue antivirus software on people's systems, but the CM's didn't believe the many people claiming it, until one finally found it themselves.

I NEVER noticed the ads on this site before. Let's take a look. I've got a Minecraft ad in the upper right corner. Or is that some kind of portable game system? It says something about 4G, so maybe a phone? I don't know, it says Xperia or something. Might be a travel service.
There's a mapquest contest to win a scooter. Why is mapquest giving away a scooter? It looks blue. Kind of that art deco blue that hipsters like. I think I'll pass. I'm more of an anything-with-flames-on-the-side kind of guy.
Oh- and Aol.com right at the top. Don't know how I missed that. Didn't AOL use to be some kind of ISP? What do they do now- email or something?
In any case, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with this batch of ads. I approve.
Arrohon Oct 16th 2011 1:35PM
My ads would be an AT&T ad to switch to their phone service. Someday it might happen, but not today. A Lexus ad... I don't drive so whatever. Then a Barack Obama 2012 ad. Even if I could vote, I don't care for the guy. Now I'll be fleeing the political debate that is likely to follow...
ambermist Oct 16th 2011 2:15PM
The ads I've got today are Scope and Pantene. Are you guys trying to tell me I need to groom myself? I'm deeply offended!
Also, going to go take a shower...
DarkWalker Oct 16th 2011 2:26PM
AOL all the way for me.
Might have something to do with where I live.
BTW, I would really appreciate if sites with adds would have, somewhere we can find - say, as a link under the adds that we only get to see if the adds are blocked - instructions on how to whitelist the site with the most common add blocking plugins. Due to security concerns, I usually prefer to use white-lists of sites that are allowed to serve advertisement to me (I still want to support sites I like), but if I can't find out how to white-list a site...

WoW Insider is one of two websites I turn off AdBlock for (the other being WoWHead). The ads here aren't awful for the most part, and they aren't anywhere near as bad as the Jack Daniels ad I've been assaulted by at Massively.
Funkysocks Oct 17th 2011 7:43AM
Today's adds include:
tire changing service. Seeing as i don't have a car that's very helpful.
Some add for some footprints in sand and a box saying "buy now". Not sure whats being sold but not whatevs.
Add for contact lenses and glasses. Exact same service i use to buy my contacts have a add for contacts on a site i regularly visit. Coincidence or Knight Templar conspiracy?
Shadowwind Oct 17th 2011 11:51AM
Hmm. I've got my browser on a tight an Adblock leash as I can manage; never really thought about the effect on WowInsider. Well there's no way I'm turning Adblock off (too paranoid about infected ads, even aside from the annoyance factor), so I guess I'll have to see if there's some other way I can support the website.

Crazy that you'd choose that, of all songs.
That's my WoW-nostalgia song, literally had it on repeat while I was leveling my second character, a Horde hunter in 2007. I can't go back to Desolace without thinking of it, even post-Cata.
Just sounds like centaurs with no ears to me.
mem0ryburn Oct 16th 2011 12:13PM
no ears? lucky centaurs
Arrohon Oct 16th 2011 1:38PM
I think you mean unlucky centaurs. When I go on a centaur killing rampage to collect 12 ears and none of them have any, I'll get killing them until I get my 12. I'll then go to the next tribe once all the centaurs are dead and I 0 ears. If centaurs with ears have to die then only 6 are dead. If centaurs don't have ears... extinction.

Re: Susinko's question. You can always buy the bag that the troll sells, its almost always a Cata Green item and you can send it to an enchanter to DE for mats. Sell those and profit.
LynMars Oct 16th 2011 12:45PM
And/or try to get a pet out of it if you haven't already. Also reputation things, if necessary.
When it gets to the point I've bought everything for the associated marks, I sometimes still do the dailies for gold, but less frequently, and I don't ever expect updates to content specifically focused on a particular raid story event, like Molten Front. The marks just sit there in my currency pane, and that's OK.
Susinko Oct 16th 2011 4:17PM
I am so happy that so many people responded to my question. I am a mount collector and I didn't want to miss out on anything! I did get the pet! Twice actually. Those suckers are bind on pickup if anyone was wondering. I guess I will buy tons of bags and profit from the items inside! Thank you guys so much!

Also, Sacco, you are never, and I mean never ever, DJing one of my parties.
Michael Sacco Oct 16th 2011 2:40PM
>implying that I would play indie rock music at your party instead of party music
