World of Warcraft's user interface is one of the most awesome features that the game includes. Where else in MMO-land can you find UIs as diverse, creative, and different than those of all of your peers and community pals? Here on WoW Insider, we have a
little column where your work gets shown off and discussed amongst our own little community, and we want your submissions. The final patch of
Cataclysm is coming soon, and as the most recent expansion winds to an end, our user interfaces are settling in to the new changes that the sundering brought. I want to see your
Cataclysm UIs.
We even love to help players with their UI design woes, discussing ways to change or adjust your UI to get it to look a little bit cleaner, a little bit smoother, or just plain nicer. If you're going to send in a call for help, please be as descriptive as possible -- it's hard to solve a problem that isn't exactly there.
Submit your user interface to Reader UI of the Week by emailing, coincidentally,
readerui@wowinsider.com. Here are some tips to remember and information to include when you are submitting your UI or call for help:
-
Include "Reader UI of the Week" in the subject of your email. If it's not there, your email might not get through.
-
Pictures are good, and the bigger the better.
-
You don't have to write a novel, but definitely write enough that readers get a sense of why you did what you did. What are your biggest priorities when putting together your UI?
-
Did I mention pictures are awesome?
-
If you are submitting a user interface that is modified off of an existing UI compilation, tell me what you changed and what was important about those changes. Anyone can go and just pick up a premade compilation.
Again, submit your user interfaces to
readerui@wowinsider.com and show off your work. Novices and veterans are all welcome because, after all, we can all learn a thing or two about checking out what's under the hood from our friends.
Interested in getting the most out of your user interface? Come back once a week for more examples of reader UIs. For more details on individual addons, check out Addon Spotlight, or visit Addons 101 for help getting started.

I sent mine in early on in Cata but it wasn't chosen for the article. Can/should I submit again or just take the hint?
Caliea Oct 17th 2011 2:00PM
Taking hints is for losers. Keep submitting until they send a response back saying "FOR GOD'S SAKE STOP!!! We don't want your UI submission!"

I just resubmitted mine for the third time.
Caliea Oct 17th 2011 2:56PM
I've debated sending mine in - it probably could use some help. I'm thinking that by having to write out what I'm trying to accomplish, along with justifying my placement choices, might solve my issues in the process, though.
Not even sure I could justify some of my choices, other than "I just like it that way", and not sure I want to read the flaming that might ensue :)

I think you guys should do an entire article devoted to Elvui. I've been using it for almost all of Cata. The amount of little details that they make sure are available is insane.
It is by far the most complete UI package available for those that want something different than the stock UI.
Chronnick Oct 17th 2011 8:24PM
Not a bad idea in itself, however using addon packages instead of just installing the addons you need is like using dial-up AOL for internet.
Wurms Oct 17th 2011 8:34PM
@Chronnick - That isn't a fair comparison at all.... Elvui is more complete than almost any Novice to Intermediate add on customizer will ever get theirs to be.
I would compare UI's more to cars, where as Elvui would be a medium to high end sports car vs something coming out of someones garage, yes you could end up as the next lotus, but most are never going to be street legal.
