Once you've been a WoW player, you're always a WoW player. Even years after giving up the game, people who quit WoW look back on the game with rose-colored glasses. They remember the good times more than the bad and frequently must fight down that urge to climb just one more level.
Wowcrendor tackles that with Should I re-sub to WoW? When Blizzard released free, limited accounts, dozens of ex-players came back to Azeroth to see what had changed. It turns out that nothing has really changed on a material level. Sure, Deathwing reshuffled the game board, but the game's still the same.

Esh, nuked, I didn't realize the reader's taste in satire amounted to what we did at age eight, say things in a dumb voice while pretending to be the person we're making fun of.
You wouldn't be able to activate your old account without re-subing but you could create a new limited access account. It caps your level at 20, limits the amount of gold you can have and restricts which chat channels you can use though.

As always Crendor made me LOL so hard as he points a spotlight on some of the craziness that is the WOW community. :) Props.

*sigh* Why, why do you always take me to my previous comment and when I reply place it as a new comment separate from that comment.
Why do your quirks defy logic in such a way that I can't learn from them and continue doing this.

I haven't played in a long time, If I come back, can I play my level 20 and sub 20 characters without resubbing?

Plus, they're level 20 characters. Even if it's pre-BC, there's not a lot of time invested in them. You'll get level 20 again in no time.
