Ian Beckman created The Care Bear, a short machinima featuring the trials and struggles of a nonconfrontational player. As the story goes, Care Bears are players who eschew the normally violent, PVP-based conflicts in the game.
In this story, an Orc Care Bear encounters a Human warrior. After some successful attempts at communication, the situation takes a turn for the worse when other Horde players show up.
I was enchanted by The Care Bear, mostly because of how well Beckman conveyed emotion and plot without dialogue. No one speaks a word, but you can still empathize with the situation and characters.

You just summed up why I don't like so many PvP players. They tend to be the "shoot first, never ask any questions later" type. They also likely wouldn't even help someone of their own faction out while they corpse camped the guy.
Loved it, I really only PVP in BGs, out in the world I have no interest in the opposite faction unless they are harassing someone of mine.
Although it is really fun to not only take out an opposing member that is harassing your friend but to wipe out the entire little alcove of NPC's they ran to for protection.
But then I would log to my PvP geared Draenei Priest, invite the warrior to a group, and THEN we'd see who'd be killing who. o_o
I have, in the past, helped out players of the opposing faction on quests when it was one guy vs. something pretty freaking impossible. I like making someone's day.
Ah, the times when I've helped out and/or been helped out by Hordies, the two of us communicating only through emotes. I'm glad I'm on a PvE server so I don't have to worry about getting corpsecamped randomly.
That has to be one of the better machinimas I've seen in a long time. The author really used the limitation of the medium to his advantage. I have to say, I laughed out loud (for realz) at the end.
Aww. I like this video. I am totally a carebear who will not PvP unless dire circumstances demand it.
I once spent 15 minutes protecting a lowbie troll player from mobs in Borean Tundra. I don't know how he got there, but he sure wanted to fish. He was like level 60 or something and the mobs were one shotting him. O.o I was also there to fish--doing one of the Dalaran dailies. I stayed watching his back until I had to go. :)

What a fantastic movie! I can fully understand the frustration of the Orc when an opposite faction member offers to destroy a group quest monster.
I always play on Normal servers though so this can happen without any accidental deaths.

I am SO that orc.
StClair Oct 18th 2011 12:40PM
Transfer to a PvE server, like I did?
Natsumi Oct 18th 2011 1:40PM
I'm more like the Warrior.
Though, I'd help him finish his quest, then murder him for being a filthy orc. But at least I helped him first!
Erin Oct 18th 2011 6:26PM
Me too. :) I'm the carebeariest carebear that ever carebeared.
(And StClair, I also transferred to a PvE server.) ;)

I had a Nelf DK Care Bear help my Belf Warrior with a group quest in Hellfire Pen the other night. Made me all squishy inside.

> getting corpsecamped randomly.
That, my friend, is why alts are made.
Don't make me get my main!
